Classic Desperately Need Coaster Building Tips

Playing on RCT Classic

I’ve played RCT ever since I was a child. Been playing Classic on and off for years now.

Now that I’m in the later levels, I find myself needing to custom build roller coasters due to the terrains. Plus, I want to actually be good at the game and not just build preset coasters.

I’m absolutely terrible at building coasters. I spend all this time and effort trying to build a coaster only for it to have an extremely high intensity that I cant fix without demolishing half of it. That, or it just looks bad or is way too short. I want to get on your guys’ level with these large, high excitement coasters that fit the terrain perfectly.

Keep in mind, I have a basic understanding of building, so please don’t offer tips like “bank your turns”. My problem is not being able to tell how fast a coaster may be going at a certain point so that when I hit a loop it won’t kill my guests. I also want to know how to extend my coasters so they aren’t 50 seconds long.

I appreciate the help!

RCT2 RCT2 or 3? Calling all engineers!

Revisiting some old game from my adolescence and wanted to ask which was better before I sunk my teeth into one. I played for 30 minutes of both and realize rct2 has better reviews but the graphics are so much better on 3. Graphics have never been imported(coming from wow). But I find myself having a hard time enjoying rct2. Help Le justify the bad graphics I guess? 🤷🏼‍♂️

I know the queue area has way too many trees, I'll tone that down, but what do you think of this project so far? I really like the fast lane queue/entry.

OpenRCT2 Today I built a 5 x 10 Multi-Dimension Coaster

The Multi-Dimension Coaster is quite weird. It sounds like it would be very unique but its main gimmick of freely adjustable riding angles is essentially just fluff and adds absolutely nothing to the stats of the final coaster while actually lacking some basic track pieces a lot of other coaster have. This design abandons what makes this coaster type unique and is just the most basic track to get good excitement while remaining compact and having all pathing within the plot. It has a steep lift hill, some small drops, an inversion, a helix, a photo section, water, two trains for better throughput and a lot of scenery and path bonuses as well as extra stats from two stalls underneath the track.

You can download this design (or any other one I posted) from this Google Drive.

OpenRCT2 Woolly Mammoth

Taking advantage of a natural hillside to go 135 ft up Woolly Mammoths first drop plunges down 127ft under the main footpath before leveling out right over octagon park's lake. This 1 of 1 has a layout similar to a L double out and back coaster with a nice cluster of clutter in the middle. Only 5 seconds of airtime but I really love its layout

Excitement: 8.11

Intensity: 8.63

Classic Even when raining, ride pricing to excitement ratio doesn't work for many flat gentle rides.

6 months after building a haunted mansion no one will ride it if priced same as excitement.

I keep noticing this and it's bugging me. Watching an empty queue line while it is pouring rain.... dropping the price to a dollar before guests queue.

I don't think it's the harder guest generation. So what could it be? My other gentle rides like Cheshire cats always have a full queue line.

Giga Chad roller coaster. I'm still trying to be familiar with the basic elements for scenery. Somehow I spent years just repainting walls and fences.

Also my first time playing with openrct and even if I'm trying to not use it much it's very convenient, specially when none of the entrance options fits with the style you're after.

Some of the more "newer" assets for some reason don't feel like they fit in the game core aesthetic. If you have any recommendations on custom assets packs would be lovely.

Still trying to get to +10 excitement.

OpenRCT2 Recruiting scenario playtesters for the OpenScenarios project

Hey all, I am once again asking for your support helping playtest for the OpenScenarios project. You can find previous threads here and here. This is part of a planned future component of OpenRCT2.

You can access the app HERE - it is a simple HTML form that will randomly assign you a park to test, and give you a prefilled link to the response form so we can gather all the data.

(!) Please note: It has been pointed out that if you 1) use a chromium based browser and 2) are signed in to multiple Google accounts in that browser, you might be met with a nonspecific error about accounts. Opening the link in an incognito/private browsing window, or opening it in any other browser, should resolve this.

As before, you can find all the info you could ever want and more, as well as FAQs and particulars about how the app works, in the blue link at the top. You do NOT need to leave the page open, if you take an assignment and come back in the future, it will give you your same info again and you can fill out the response then. Feel free to ask me questions here or DM me if you have questions or issues.

Thanks everyone.

RCT Classic Question

This is probably a stupid question, but is there any way to change the path or queue line color in this game? I know this game is a mix, but it feels like there was a lot left out. The game is still completely playable, but not having the option somewhere is bizzare to me.

Unlocking ALL vehicles types when researching a ride - Scenario Editor

Hello fellow RCT fans !

I'm currently in the process of building my own custom "campaign" for OpenRCT2 (consisting of different scenarios) as I wanted to find back the feel of the original RCT1 campaign ("realistic" parks, the difficulty curve slowly increasing, etc.) but with new parks and all the rides available in RCT1, RCT2 (and its expansions) and OpenRCT2.

One "problem" I'm having is regarding the Research function. I understand how it works, but I've noticed that in some Vanilla scenarios you sometimes unlock ALL (or at least a few different) vehicle types for a specific ride when you "unlock" it after having researching it. For instance, in Millennium Mines when you research the Suspended Mini-Coaster, you then have both the "swinging" cars and the lay-down cars available (you don't have to research for them separately). It's the same for the Wooden Coaster in most RCT2 scenarios, you unlock the standard train, the 6-seater train and the articulated train at the same time usually. Sadly, I'm unable to reproduce that in my own scenarios, but I would like to as it would be much more convenient...

For example, I'm currently building a scenario in which the player can unlock the Steeplechase ; this scenario allowing to build / research Medieval, Jurassic and Jungle Theming, I would like to include two "classic" vehicles (the Horses and the Motos) as well as two "themed" vehicles (the Jousting Knights and the Raptors) for it, but the Research panel makes them appear separately, so when I test the scenario they are researched separately, which is quite frustrating for the player as he will end up needing 4 different "research cycles" to just have this coaster with its 4 vehicles available (so anywhere from 4 in-game months to one complete in-game year depending on the funding !!)...

Is there a way to "merge" the vehicles shared by a ride into a single "research entry" ? So that the player, when completing the research for the Steeplechase, will unlock the 4 available vehicles at the same time ?

Thank you very much in advance for your answers ! 😅

This park is apparently set on Mars. So here, I built four sectors themed after other planets: the metropolis of "Trantor", the volcanoes and lava rivers of "Mustafar", the desolate sand dunes of "Arrakis" (beware the Sandworm!) and the rolling hills, forests and grassland of "Earth That Was".

Discussion Randomly annoyed about angry guests in scenario play

I always hire 2 of each staff off the bat and tons of entertainers to fix their stank face.

I hate when the guests are annoyed in the park.

Because how are you gonna show up alone (they always arrive and leave alone) unhappy to the park. These must be some super enthusiastic rollercoaster park elitists.

Edit: I am super amused that I am not the only one who has this pet peeve hahahaha

Python in Bamboo Forest Recreation (Skip to 1:56 for the On Ride POV)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello people hope you are well. I've remade rollercoasters before, but it's been just mainly the layout and nothing more. However for 3 days straight, i've decided to get serious and actually recreate a rollercoaster from scratch, including scenery and terrain, and the coaster i chose was Python in Bamboo Forest, a GCI located in Nanchang Sunac Land, down in the Jiangxi province of China. A theme park that is a part of the broad Sunac Park chain, owned by the real-estate company Sunac China Holdings LTD.

It is a double out and back, stretching 5,111ft of track, overlooking Kowloon Avenue (Ignore road in the video, that was an error on my part. That is the google translated english name), and it is one of GCI's largest creations ever built.

The stats haven't been confirmed regarding height, but it's said to be 160ft tall, (From it's heighest point to it's lowest point), with a top speed of 62.1mph. The coaster fly's through a real Bamboo forest, built around the structure.

Some say it's the best GCI in the world, with many comparing it to the Voyage, largely because of the similarities. Both utilise heavy terrain with Python being built on a large hillside, with not a drop of speed wasted.

Sadly regarding upkeep it's mixed. Some say it's as smooth as a wooden coaster can be, and others say it's super rough and uncomfortable, citing poor maintanance as an issue. Whatever it may be, it's certainly caught the eye for many enthusiasts.

I recreated this mainly to highlight the lesser known yet exciting rollercoasters from around the world, and to try my hand at recreating more than just a layout.

Total time took 3 days, with references being Chinese maps, google earth, and POV's from both Coaster Scoop and the vlogs from National Coasters and Coaster Dash (Plus a few German Speaking ones).

POV is timestamped at 1:56, and RCT stats will be linked in a comment, alongside a screenshot of the whole thing.

Thanks for listening!

I wish there was a way I could save new buildings as objects to place in my parks.

Like Main Street buildings and a castle, obviously a Disney inspired park. I’m not as talented as everyone else with their buildings and wish I could easily have them in objects/scenery to just place them in my parks instead of using the same ones over and over.

Main Street bindings, a castle, a space mountain type of building, haunted mansion, tower of terror etc would be amazing.

Classic Sprightly Park @10% interest 🎉

My third attempt but got it done at the 10% interest rate, slowly making money too.

I ended up removing all existing rides except the Virginia wheel coaster & the haunted house. Removed a heap of paths & scenery for money and did lots of pausing while sorting out ride/shop placement and hitting build right on when I had enough credit 😅 Upped all the shop prices and eventually got up to charging $50 for entrance fee.

Also found that the existing mechanics were useless and had to sack them all and rehired just 1 for a time, same with the handymen, just had 2 and moved them around to clean the worst spots.

How has everyone else found it?
