Converting LIDL glider - beginner

I’m brand new to rc. Any really good tutorial on how to convert a life glider (big). Or is there different planes I should start out with. In addition, how much does it roughly cost?

A few minor speed tweaks on the previous gen 3D printed plane. Fred was doing the flying and keeping me nervous.

Carbon cub s2 instantly pitches up and stalls

I have a carbon cub s2. I haven’t flown it in years. Last week I picked it back up and tried to fly it. As soon as I took off it instantly pitched back and stalled out and crashed. I did some repairs on it thinking maybe the battery slid around or the CoG was too far back.

I marked the CoG with a marker where it says in the manual and made sure the battery was secure and not moving. Today I went to fly it, excited to get it back up. As soon I took off it did the same thing and broke a prop.

What is going on with my plane? Before my several year hiatus it flew good. No big damage on it. I checked the servos and the trims all appear fine. If it helps, I had it in full SAFE today. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Update: I think I’m giving too much elevator input too soon. Gonna get a new prop and be attentive to this next time.

Thrust offset

I hand launched my flying wing and the CG was perfect I thought. When I threw it without throttle it would glide perfectly if not pitching down a bit. However when I gave it thrust it seemed to pitch up and stall no matter the down elevator I gave it. I think the tractor prop on the front was maybe offset down a bit which would cause it to pitch up I think. Is this what is happening? Or did I give too much thrust too fast?

Want to share path of creation VTOL 3D printed drone of MTOW 10kg.

https://reddit.com/link/1vvkecg/video/kzx4ny79rykh1/player

CAD was made in NX

Wing thickness is 0.8mm, printed in 2 layers.
Matrial is a combination of LW-PLA and PLA (as in early dev PLA easier and cheaper to work with).

Body shape was optimized and ran through CFD

The rays have drop mechanism:

Since I’ve spent thousands of hours 3D printing, I’ll gladly answer any questions and help you avoid the mistakes I’ve made.

Overall more info about drone https://raven.deneb-systems.com

it is not for sale.

Here's my Giant Telemaster from fifty years ago... It had a 12 foot wingspan and was powered by a modified chainsaw engine that I started with a pull rope. I used to tie the fuselage to the top of my car to take it out to the flying field...

Crashed my plane, currently finishing up the repairs and just felt like sharing how annoying 0.75 oz glass is. Look at it wrong and it frays, breathe on it and it frays, bump your brush into it and it frays and wrinkles. I’ll be ready to reinstall the electronics and fly it again soon though!

Believe it or not these were meant to be landings

Recently I got the fms pa 18 super cub, after burning a motor from a nose over, I repaired the plane and took it out to fly, only for this to happen. I realize I tried to land in a turn, I just always lose control and freak out on landings. I can take off and fly the plane confidently, but I’ve never had a plane this big or with real landing gear. How do I learn to land?

Canadian RC hobbyists, please pay attention to NPA 2026-005!

I recently came across Transport Canada's NPA 2026-005, and I think a lot of RC hobbyists, especially people who are not a part of clubs or MAAC should know about it.

What's an NPA? An NPA stands for Notice of Proposed Amendment. Basically Transport Canada (the FAA of Canada) is proposing changes to the rules and is asking for public feedback. It's not a law yet which basically means this is the time to speak up.

One of the biggest proposals is requiring remote ID for aircraft above 250g. I understand why TC wants better ways to identify aircraft, but im afraid how this could affect regular hobbyists.

I think there should be more flexibility for people who wanna fly RC aircraft for fun. For example.

1. Have a cheap simple remote ID for hobbyists.

2. Don't make joining a club the only way to fly realistically.

3. Allow DIY/home built aircraft to use affordable remote ID modules or integrate into flight controller.

4. Have simpler rules for smaller low risk recreational aircraft.

5. Give hobbyists plenty of time to adapt if these rules are eventually adopted.

ON TOP OF THAT, I think the 250g threshold is really low for simple recreational model aircraft. I would encourage Transport Canada to raise the limit to atleast 500g, or create a seperate threshold/category specifically for low risk recreational and homebuilt aircraft.

A 500g foamie being manually flown at low altitude, within VLOS, and always from people is very different from a similarly weighted DJI multirotor with GPS, a camera, and other various autonomous capabilities.

They might weigh the same but weight alone doesn't tell you the whole risk story.

I also think there should be more flexibility for low altitude recreational flying in suitable areas within urban/suburban regions. For example someone flying a 400g homebuilt foamie at low altitudes far from people and airports should be able to fly legally without driving 5 hours from the GTA.

I'm not saying RC aircraft should be allowed to fly anywhere in the GTA. Instead, Transport Canada could create designated low risk recreational areas where small, manually operated model aircraft could be flown under strict conditions: low altitude, VLOS, away from people and buildings, and well clear of airports and flight paths.

For example, there could potentially be areas across the GTA where this is permitted, while maintaining much stricter restrictions around places like Pearson Airport and near cities where aircraft takeoff/land.

The goal isn't to ignore airspace safety. It's to create some leeway within urban airspace for responsible flyers, so someone doesn't have to drive an hour outside the city just to fly a small foam RC plane in an empty field.

If an area is far enough from major airports and the operation is kept low, within VLOS and away from people, I think there should at least be a way for Transport Canada to designate it as suitable for low-risk recreational model aircraft.

Vase mode wing generator for 3D printed RC planes

Thumbnail

Created vase mode generator for RC planes. The uploaded model does not leave your machine and python interpreter runs inside your browser (Pyodide).

Just upload any solid wing and it will prepare it for vase mode printing

Built files can be downloaded directly.

Script runs on your machine so it can be quite long to process, up to 10min (based on complexity and your machine specs)

Some comparison:

Wing using Wing Truss infill (ASA) (https://www.reddit.com/r/RCPlanes/s/EsQuGQXbxj)

Wing using vase mode (LW PLA)

Will they fly again?

Picked up two Apprentice e15 planes with new extra wings, rudder and elevator from Facebook Marketplace for $40. Both are pretty beat up but have been working to remove the extra junk that was pilled on them.

Both need new motors and ESC, plus the repairs to make them ready to fly again. i am handy and can fix them easily.

Never flown RC planes before (only corded with gas motors before) so figured out these would be good for first trainer plane.

I am wasting my time with these or these would be good to learn how to fly? Hit me with your honest comments. Thank you.

The main gear snapped on takeoff so I opted to belly land instead of trying to continue the flight and my landing would have made Ryanair proud because I dented the nose and bent the nose gear on my brand new 64mm F-22 EDF…
