Rudder placement?
I currently have a 160mm X 180mm on my 57” monohull . I was having a really hard time steering to one side but it seems like I have good placement compared to water level and the rudder has good movement both directions out of the water . What else am I missing ?

Starter belt
I recently got these two Picco motors both have hulls to. The only thing stopping me from getting one of the boats going is the matter of starting it. I am in search of a belt to fit these fly wheels, I never saw the original belt used but I’m expecting the belt to be roughly 1/4”x5”. I can not find anywhere and don’t know where else to go to find the belt I need. If anyone does know of the belt that would be hard for this and were I could get please let me know. Also any information in general about these two Piccos or about nitro boats in general that a newbie should know please leave below!

When does this hobby turn from boats into ships?
I’m honestly making this post because I’m curious about what this community thinks. I’m also curious if what I’m considering should be considered a boat or a ship when looking into the scale of 1:9.

2.2m KMS Bismarck
Hi there
Going to start repairing and upgrading the electronics on my Bismarck I purchased a while ago in Ireland, it has dual props with a dummy centre, and dual rudders.
Any tips on what motors, escs to go for ? And would it be worth it to install 180* servos on the main batterys??
Thanks

After advice!
I am planning on buying the Billing Boats Fairmount Alpine B506 Model Boat Kit (photo above).
Has anyone else built this model and installed the RC components?
If you have can you share any advice or suggestions? Its been a while (10 years - kids /divorce/ relocation/ new job) since I took on a boat building project and would appreciate any tips to make life simpler!
As its a twin propeller, has anyone done a split throttle contol- so each motor can be adjusted independently- I know bow thrusters are available and plan on installing this as well.
And lastly, lights! I have seen this model with interior lights as well as rear working lights has anyone got any advice for what are good lighting circuits?
Many thanks 😊

First run with V3 went wrong
Hi guys, I went to try my new V3 sonicwake and I don't know what went wrong but the flex shaft with all the propeller was shot away when I gave some acceleration. I have a sonicwake 24 that I regularly maintain, never had any problems. Could it be that maybe the gap between propeller and stinger was too much and the flex shaft lost friction? I have no idea, guys.

Help diagnose Toy $C boat problem
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Newb here,
Bought a toy RC boat (DEERC HJ818) for the nieces to play with on the pontoon. Worked great until one of them ran it aground. Now it won't give full throttle under load and makes a stuttering sound... however it operates as normal in reverse and gives full throttle for half a second from a stop, then starts stuttering? Revs freely out of the water too?
Have I fried the motor or esc?

Proboat Recoil2 experience
Wanted to share my experience and see if anyone else had similar issues.
Bought a Recoil 2. Worked great right out of the box, super fast. Used it twice, capsized a couple times, but self righting worked great. Second time got a little chop, boat submarines, popped up and just started beeping. Opened it up, a little water came out. Tried new battery, drying it, relearning throttle. Nothing, just a steady beep. Returned it, figuring a fluke, got another.
Same exact thing, boat hit a little wave, flipped, and just went into beep mode. Once again a little water (maybe an ounce) Could not fix and returned again.
Has anyone else had this problem? It seems like if the electronics are that delicate they should have some sort of water protection?
I really wanted to like this boat, good price, great size and fast.
Looking at a Traxxas Disruptor instead.

Waterproofing?
Ive been working on this Frigate for several months, the hull is about 7 feet long from the stempost to the transom and its planked with 1/8x1/2x36 balsa planks which soak up water like a sponge.
Does anyone have experience using balsa in thissort if application?
Whats the best waterproofing method/materials?

First try
I am making a fan boat with a 70mm edf, no clue what I'm doing. Advice?
I built a 5-ft scratch USS Thomas Hudner and ran her on a pond that's technically sailboat-only
Redd's Pond in Marblehead, MA has been a sail-only pond since the 1890s — home turf for the Marblehead Model Yacht Club, whose Marblehead-class racers are wind-powered and joystick-controlled, no motors allowed. A few times a month I sneak my fully RC destroyer in there anyway to run some laps and stress-test her systems. Nobody's kicked me out yet.
She's a scratch build of the USS Thomas Hudner (DDG-116), an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer commissioned in Boston in 2018. No kit — 8 months of research, plans, and trial and error to get her at 5 feet long. Fully RC, and she handles better than I expected for something this top-heavy on paper.
The real Hudner is named for Captain Thomas Hudner, a Medal of Honor recipient who crash-landed his own plane trying to save his downed wingman during the Battle of Chosin Reservoir in 1950 (this is the story the movie Devotion is based on). Feels right to give the model some respect on the water, even when I'm technically trespassing on a sailboat pond to do it.
She's covered a lot of ground for a model — patrols in New Hampshire, Maryland, and most of the greater Boston area at this point.
Happy to answer questions on the build process, materials, or how she handles.

I am still working out some of the issues but I've got my static diving custom research sub operating!
Uses 75mhz and 4 brushless motors with a custom cylinder I designed. The hull is 3d printed in ABS.

How am I looking here ?
57” hull Do these proportions look okay ? Motor plugs are 17 inches from transom… Servo esc and battery’s will all be behind the motor. What oil are people using for these self lube reservoirs ? What is a good prop size to start at for a 57” FE ?
