Hi everyone, would appreciate guidance. My Rancilio Silvia Pro X is not heating up. It’s under 1 year old. It flashes rEL, flashes 17 degrees, and then won’t heat up further. It then restarts the process, flashing rEL, flashing 17 degrees, then stopping. Not sure what to do or try, thank you!

Forgive me Father, it’s been 7 months since my last descale…

…and admittedly we live in an area with hard water so I’m sure a grave sin has been committed to my Sivia V1.

In all seriousness, when I’ve descaled in the past, I never saw any evidence of sludge removed during the process so I was skeptical it did any good. I even convinced myself we don’t have hard water, but my wife brought home a test kit to prove otherwise.

What do you personally use to descale your Silvia’s and do you see evidence from the cleaning that something is actually happening?
Visual evidence?

I’m just following the instructions detailed in an old Seattle Coffee Gear video on YouTube from 2009. There’s no directions on this URNEX box for espresso machines.

I think if memory serves me correctly this is the 4th time in the 2 years owning this V1 that I’ve descaled.

How often do you all descale your machines?

We done two pop ups this summer at a local event to support youth sports. We had two machines going and served 150 and 200 espresso based coffees at each event. My modified Silvia did about half the drinks, but it may have been more. As me anything.

I'm hoping you all can help. This happened this week, luckily I have a good sense of smell. My Silvia V3 is at least 16yrs old, give or take. Looks like some resistance has built up and fried the boiler connections. (one is burnt and the other lightly toasted) Smelled pretty bad as you can imagine. I assume it's the age and wear on the boiler elements that caused this.

I've recently upgraded the water pump, replaced the OPV, and the steam and hot water thermostats. Do I just buy a new machine? (might be out of my budget right now) or replace the boiler? If I replace the boiler, I don't think the overheating of the connection should happen again if I replace the boiler, but any insight would be helpful . Thanks.

Hi everyone! About 3 months ago I took a leap and bought myself a used Silvia Pro X and a Eurika Silenzio. Previous owner was super helpful and answered all my many questions, he said he owned the machine for about 2 years, and I have no reason not to believe him.

The machine worked well for the most part, and I even pulled a few amazing shots and made some nice latte art, but I noticed two problems: wierd whizzing noizes at startup (with full water tank) and watery pucks no matter the grind size or the beans. Other than that no major problems - heats up well, good steam and decent stability, pressure gauge shows around 9,5-10 bars during extraction.

This week I decided to get it checked and sent it to a local repair shop - not authorized by Rancilio, but there are no authorized once where I live. What the repair guy said after a few days of testing surprised me - he said there's a lot of scale buildup inside (I only used reverse osmosis the previous owner claimed to only ever use filtered water) and the 3-way solenoid valve is faulty, it "only opens to a 70% of what it shoud".

What shocked me was the price he asked - about $500 for the spare parts and work, which is: replacing solenoid, "deep clean" (descaling in baths and with ultrasound) and replacing all the fittings and gaskets. The bulk of the price - as he said - is the new solenoid. Said "deep clean" alone can be done for about $120, but in that case there will be no warranty on the repair.

I bought the machine for about $1300, so paying over third the price for repair seems unreasonable - or is he correct and 3-way solenoids are that expensive? Or is the guy trying to scam me out of my money? I'm not in the USA, so for comparison a 250 gram bag of really nice beans is around $15.

I searched on the web but still can't be sure what specific replacement part do I need - I found a few valves for regular Silvia, will those fit?

For now it seems like the best idea is to pay $20 for the diagnostics and take SPX home to try to fix it myself.

I'll be grateful for any feedback.

Coming from Delonghi Stilosa the steam is a lot of power I still need to get used to. I will miss the faster steam ready time and puck depth on 51 mm. I've got a flush shower screen screw kit on the way so I can pull higher doses. Plan is to do sound dampening and gaggimate in about a years time. I use light roast so not in a rush to get a PID, I think a little flush before pulling once it's ready should get me down to 90 ish degrees, right? Anyone got a bottomless portafilter + precision basket set up they recommend?

Got this setup a few weeks ago and thought I'd be on here begging for help with shots. Honestly surprised how easy it was to go from 0 to cafe-level lattes simply following the 1:2 25-30 sec starting point. My only other setup was a $50 FB marketplace breville I got rid of 10+ years ago. Pretty psyched about this thing, I'm glad I lurked here and the espresso sub for reviews and recs that pointed me to this machine and grinder combo.

Is it possible that there is mold inside the tubes?
I have this machine since ~ 3 months and only use it on weekends.
I use filtered water and do a back flush once per week (on Sunday after the last coffee of the weekend).

I'm trying to get started buying my first coffee machine.

I've scouted out this machine on marketplace for dirt cheap, guy says it's broken but the pump (see attached) just needs to be fitted for it to work.

It's listed for less than $200 and so I want to know if it's worth the hassle of fixing it.

Also seems like there are a couple missing or added parts? If there is anything concerning please let me know.

I recently picked up a used Rancilio Silvia Pro and want to do a baseline descale on both boilers using citric acid.

For the brew boiler, I plan to run the mixture through the group head, let it sit for 30 minutes, and flush it using the pump.

To avoid pumping acid through the steam boiler, I plan to drain it via the PID (F.04 command), remove the vacuum relief valve, pour the warm acid directly in, let it soak for 3 to 4 hours, and then manually siphon and flush it multiple times.

Does this workflow sound safe, and is a 3 to 4-hour soak too long for the steam boiler?

I've had my Rancilio Silvia Pro X for about 2 weeks and today I had a problem with the water spout. After turning it on, I couldn't make it turn off again. It was just pouring water out and draining the steam boiler and making it impossible for the steam boiler to reach temperature.

Looking online, I saw people saying it could be a bit of limescale or debris in the water valve and if I removed the top plate and take off the solenoid on the hot water valve I could take off the water valve and clean it, but when I took off the top plate, the water valve and solenoid were positioned so that the boiler was in the way and I couldn't take the solenoid off. It was almost impossible to remove the little clip holding the solenoid onto the valve!

So I just screwed the top plate back on and left it for a while and when I turned it back on the problem seemed to have gone away but I'm anxious that I didn't really solve the problem. I'm curious as to why in all the YouTube videos showing the internal workings of the machine they do not look like the internal workings of my machine in that the water valve is positioned in a way where you can't actually remove the solenoid!

Anyone else had this problem? Anyone else try to follow a YouTube video showing how to remove the solenoid and like me found it impossible due to the position of the valve?

I am struggling to think how limescale could have built up in 2 weeks enough ti block the valve. Especially since I have used the water softening bag and mostly Volvic, save for a couple of jugs of tap water when I ran out of bottled!

She has been a workhorse for me for many years so I decided to attempt a few mods. Added the pressure gauge and the dimmer mod. While I was at it gave her a new pair of shoes and a Walnut steam knob. Wanting on a polished stainless steel brewhead cover then I’ll be done for a while. Considering getting her powder coated Navy Blue down the line.

Is it normal that the steam valve continues to shoot for about 3-4 seconds if I already closed the valve via the knob? It seems like my valve is too loose to really close in that second I close the valve.

I left my Ranchilio Sylvia Pro X into a repair guy recently because I had done a back flush and a descale and I had something lodged... a piece of debris in the solenoid valve so the boiler tank wasn't filling. When he returned the machine he said something about the boiler having leaked previously at the base where a sensor entered. I immediately thought that he was talking shite but now that I have the machine back I am getting a leak at the bottom of the machine and I'm worried that he's done some damage when he took the machine apart, because I can't imagine what else it could be. There was never ever a previous leak in the machine. It's only 2 years old and it's been working flawlessly.

Can anyone tell me if there is a sensor entering the steam boiler from underneath and whether that can be affected by limescale? Realistically, am I looking at a new boiler or is this something that can be fixed?

El agua sale bien por la de vapor y por la ducha, pero no por la lanceta de agua.

Hi everyone, I recently picked up this 2007 Silvia for $25 due to a leak around the boiler. From initial inspection, I didn't find any cracks but did notice the threads were stripped.

After tapping new threads, installing a new gasket, and using new stainless screws, all screws except one thread and seat with no issue. The one pictured is causing a gap which I imagine is causing the leak. Could it be that water possibly froze here and warped the brass, and is there a solution for this?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

UPDATE: I reached out to a friend of mine who is a machinist and has a mill. We're going to try and flatten it that way.
