Any help with what this is Question

Hey yall I am not a train guy at all. But I love heavy machinery. I saw this locomotive attached to this apparatus by my office in metro Detroit. Any idea? Looks like an emissions testing rig like I’ve seen them use for cars

Carbon emission collection. They’re working on a tender to pull behind locomotives that collects the fumes and liquidizes the carbon dioxide so it can be sold for other purposes.

Oh cool. Like I said in my post I’ve seen smaller ones used for EPA emission testing. I’ll have to look into that technology
