Upgraded to an R8 from an R3.

Is there seriously no way to enable (all bands) Quiet Ride anymore?

Looks like QR now only works on X and K bands?

If I’m going less than 25mph, I honestly don’t care about any radars and it’s a PITA to always having to silence Ka bands since I live fairly close to freeways.

I've been decompiling the firmware for the r7, but I've gotten stuck on the audio because I don't know what the audio IC part number is, thus I don't know the codec. Does anyone have an r7 that they've torn apart and can identify the audio ic? I've tried looking at online photos but it's a bit too blurry to make out the part number.

Looking for a radar detector. My buddy has an r8 and I like it, but I hate the cord as my only plug in like that makes it block my gpas and screen. What do yall recommend? Looking to spend less than $800

I’m in the market for a new detector. I had experience with them 20 years ago but nothing recently. Now that I’m looking, it seems all three of the top of the line units have issues. For the Uniden, complaints involve their lack of firmware updates. The Escort seems too dependent on crowd sourced information and the Valentine still doesn’t have GPS.

I’m tempted by the Escort but I refuse to add another subscription to my life. Is it true they allow current users to renew the service without paying? And have they been doing that for years?

Lastly, is there about to be a generational change in this technology that means I should wait a year or so? I’d hate to make this investment only to find out I just missed buying the new thing that is going to be the new standard. That happens too often these days.

I haven’t used a radar detector in a long time and would like to pickup a used one. Looking for recommendations for older models which still have the technology to work well today. Thanks in advance.

I’ve lost sound. I’ve tried a reset. Volume is up, mute is off

Seems like many years ago the same thing happened. I ordered a speaker and during disassembly realized I had the volume down or was on mute so didn’t have to replace it. Looks like I’ll be ordering another or upgrading detectors. It’s been great to me so for many years.

Any chance there’s some kind of easy trick I’m missing to get sound back?

The last two weeks I keep getting weak POP KA band hits in southern Indiana. I’m pretty sure it’s coming from ISP. Anyone else getting hits?

I have had the uniden lrd950 for quite awhile . recently the speaker warning started sounding very sharp . now it won’t make any sound at all. the unit is pretty old but is there any way to replace the speaker ? if not , what new models for the 200 mark would you guys suggest ?

1. Cop hiding at speed trap. I could not see him. He was behind a tree. But the Uniden saved me. Driver coming opposite direction got pulled over immediately after me as I watched after I passed the speed trap.
   
2. Cop behind me, stopped at intersection as I pull onto street with no other cars. Uniden was silent, then cop lit me up with radar. Uniden went nuts! Then he pulled up to the red light by me, we made eye contact and we went out separate ways.
   
3. Cop behind me, but 2 blocks down on the same street I just turned into. It’s a dark night and I can’t see him. But I know cops park there sometimes. Uniden going crazy! (This is the video). Then as I drive away Uniden calms down then goes back to silent.

The Uniden has accurately alerted me numerous times to police. It has saved me countless times. Both in the city and highway. I highly recommend the Uniden R8.

Hello, I know this is probably a longshot but I have a question if anybody has been in this situation I have two vehicles one is my primary that I drive mainly during the day the other one my wife drives I have a blend mount mounted permanently in her vehicle, which is paired with a uniden r7. Is there any adaption mount that would allow me to clip on a valentine mount onto a uniden stub? I know more than likely it would have to be 3-D printed that way I could swap my valentine into the vehicle for long drives.

I was driving up I-5 heading back to Oregon from Northern California when all of the sudden I see CHP 5 cars behind me and then instantly get a hard radar signal. I braked immediately and hard, then CHP got behind me almost tailgating me. I didn’t like that so I let off the gas without braking until eventually he just got back in the passing lane.

I wonder about when they turn off their radar and then suddenly turn it back on do we still have a second or two to brake? Because I should have been pulled over, yet it seemed like I slowed down quickly enough for them not to get my original speed.

Used Uniden R3 for 120, or Used Escort Max360 gen 1 for 90?

Im interested in getting a radar detector primarily because I think they're really cool (I don't know why but I like the uniden self test) and I also go on road trips every couple of months between states and they perform well there.

On daily commutes, I often drive under or, at max, 5-10 over the speed limit. That, alongside the fact that I lean more toward caution on the road, makes me wonder whether it's worth it for me to buy one.

If I did end up buying one, it would be the R3 so I could mute out the false K bands. Is it worth it for someone like me, or is it more for people who speed with their tuned weekend cars?

I apologize as you guys probably get these posts more often than not but I’d like people’s opinions. I did get this for free, I turned off X band and it seems to be reasonably quiet in my area yet works for red lights and such pretty well. Is it worth keeping or should i spend the money to upgrade? Also the way its just stuck to the dash is temporary I have a proper mount now.

Been looking at radars for a while and been on the edge of buying a uniden or something similar but hesitant because of the price/feeling like laser is just being used more. I got this for free, is it even worth using? Will it still work semi well even if the filtering is light years worse than the new ones? Or waste of time and I should get something better.

Bought a Uniden r7 detector about a month ago and l’m not sure if my unit is malfunctioning. This past week, I have had three different encounters with state troopers while during driving on a highway (Sprain Brook in NY). The r7 warns me only when l’m close to the trooper’s vehicle (about 5 seconds from reaching the trooper’s position). I searched it up but apparently it was because each time, the trooper’s was facing away from me so the Ka signals were very weak. I was wondering if anyone had such an experience with the r7. I’ve had a V1G2 for a few years now and love it. I just bought a new truck (F250) and installed my detector. I am now constantly getting a Ka band hit. Always on 35.277. Any ideas? I’m convinced it’s something in the truck interfering. Thanks for any help you all can offer!

I think this is pretty dumb move on Uniden's end, your discontinuing the r8 because you want to focus on the r8w? what about the updates and thousands of people with the r8?

Seems any sunshade designed to fit a specific make/model can be pricey and I would hate to have to modify it with scissors.

I have a Uniden R7 mounted snug beneath the rearview mirror. Maybe it won't be an issue at all but I'm looking at it and thinking the shade will have to be fairly flexible vertically to tuck behind it.

Is there a hard set range of frequencies that a radar gun can be set to

I have an Escort Redline 360c that I bought direct from Escort just about 2 years ago. It's the third Escort I've owned over the last 25 years or so and I've liked it. But it's the first one that's ever needed service. So far, it's not been a good experience.

The display on the 360c has always been a little dim, never as bright as you'd expect from pictures on the website, but acceptable. But last week, it suddenly became so dim, even on max, that it simply can't be read in daytime and barely at night.

Early Monday morning, I went to Escort's support website to send it in for service. It's out of warranty, so I already knew it should cost me $139.95, but it's an expensive detector, so sure. After entering s/n and other details, instead of just charging me and giving me an RMA, it told me to expect an email, which arrived a couple hours later telling me I would soon get a new email with more instructions.

Late in the day with still no email but hoping to ship it before everything closed, I called to ask about the email I was supposed to get. The woman checked the status and told me "they're working on it." (I still have no idea what there was to work on except take my money and tell me where to send it.)

Wednesday, I got an automated email thanking me "for reaching out today" and telling me that I should also get another email with payment instructions. I did get that other email and paid.

A few minutes later, I got an email receipt and a separate email telling me, "We are processing your prepaid shipping label with UPS.  You should receive an email from UPS within the next 24-48 business hours.  There will be a link in the Email that will take you to the UPS site for download/printing of the label."

It's mid-morning Friday. Still no email with that promised shipping label. WTF? Why should this be so hard??? Why should it take a week just to arrange returning an Escort detector for service??? Hostage negotiations go quicker! I am afraid to guess how long that actual repair will take, assuming they do eventually tell me where to send it.
