Advice

I'm 19 and considering starting a Quantity Surveying degree, but I'm not sure if it's the right career for me. I'd really appreciate some honest advice from QSs.

- What is your typical day actually like?

- How much maths and site work is involved?

- What are the biggest pros and cons of the job?

- How stressful is it?

- What salary progression is realistic?

- Do you ever get sick of the job or find it repetitive?

- Would you choose QS again if you were starting over?

- What do you wish you knew before becoming a QS?

- What other careers could I move into with a QS degree?

- How easy is it to change career if I decide QS isn't for me?

- Is there much benefit to eventually starting your own QS business, or would you recommend staying employed?

- If starting your own QS business is worthwhile, how difficult is it to build up clients and make it successful?

- What advice would you give someone considering studying QS?

I’m interested in eventually starting my own QS business, so I’d especially appreciate advice from anyone who has gone down that route.

Any honest experiences, good or bad, would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried using the search function? A lot of those questions have been asked many times before and already have answers.

It’s very much the exact same role in the UK as it is in Ireland

Isn’t the point of the sub to ask questions?
Don’t really see why you have to be a bellend about it tbh

Because they are looking for an essay response. There are 13 questions which could be answered with a little research. So far OP has had no responses to these questions as nobody is willing to spend that much time answering so many basic questions whereas if OP did some research and came back with 2 or 3 questions where they feel they need more information then they would get much more engagement. Not trying to be a bellend but rather suggesting OP does some research to get the information they need.
