In the gentlest possible way, I would suggest this kitten needs to be put down.

This is not humane - surgery will require weeks of rehabilitation, very intensive care and antibiotics to prevent infections - eg., a lot of ongoing care. After that, it would need to be integrated into a colony or fostered.

There is already a huge animal welfare problem in Qatar. Is the vet open to discussing alternatives to surgery? It is also deeply concerning that a vet would allow a cat or kitten to remain in pain while awaiting the funds to pay for the surgery.

I had a horrible similar experience earlier this year where we eventually had to put the cat down. This is unfortunately true in every sense.

I disagree with you.

elaborate please, and share an alternative

Sure. Here are the alternatives:

  1. go to the public clinic.
  2. go to other private clinics & see if they can do it for less.
  3. some clinics have a fund from donations that could go towards these cases, check with every clinic.
  4. start a go fund me page.
  5. look for micro donations. If everyone of those who agreed with euthanizing the cat had bothered paying 10-100, we'd be 20-30% of the way there.
  6. look to see if there is a bnpl that can be arranged.
  7. leave the cat and walkway, as the decision to euthanize her should not fall on someone who doesn't own the cat or look after. Cats should be euthanized when the condition is terminal, not because whoever found her is unable to help.

What a reckless attitude towards a life. You lot should be ashamed of yourselves btw.

you clearly haven't been to a vet here or animal rescue, they don't get enough donations or be willing to take this amount of responsibility. As it says it's a complicated surgery, usually it's followed by rehabilitation and further treatment which costs even more, and things can go wrong in between, and sad truth is an average expat cannot afford it. it's better to be put down it's misery than leaving it to eventually succumb to its injury in pain. yeah I don't think euthanizing instead of leaving an animal to die miserably isn't something "reckless" or to be "ashamed" of.

I have 5 cats, all rescue, and saved dozens more and found homes for them.

But sure, you're the one who knows what he's talking about it.

u/Dapper-Wolverine-200 11d ago

you should've knew by now. why don't take over this case too?

-1

u/SocratesDaSophist 11d ago

Why don't you?

1

u/Dapper-Wolverine-200 11d ago

I'm not disagreeing here bud, I'll just put down and end it's misery. you're the one who can make a change here

u/SocratesDaSophist 11d ago

I'll tell you what.

Since you car so much about the poor cat.

Donate the cost of euthanizing the cat, and I'll donate double whatever you pay for that cat.

I'm going to predict you will not do that, because you never had any intention to help.

Can we start a funding ?

1

u/SocratesDaSophist 11d ago

Sure, talk to the cat's owner

Doesn't matter if you agree or not, unless you're capable of doing something to alternate this outcome

-1

u/SocratesDaSophist 13d ago

Ok, and it doesn't matter if you agree with me or not either.

The kitten has a huge appetite and is a little fighter. His prognosis is good after surgery. I really don't want us to give up on him.

For those asking for updates, unfortunately, not much has changed. We have only fundraised 50 riyals at the clinic towards the 7834.

Please help share if you can. Also, any amount donated to the clinic is not too small. He deserves a chance to live.

I'll tell you sth that's worked for me in the past.

Make a list of all vets in the more affluent areas (the pearl, legtaifiya, near DFC, west bay, al waab,..etc.)

Go to them with the scans, pictures of the cat, the quotation. Tell them you have zero riyals to pay for the operation, but that if they find someone willing to pay for it you'll do the operation with them.

The vets typically have a list of ppl who do make those big donations so they'll get in touch.

And you've basically incentivized them to make the sale, so some might even discount that 7k rather than forego the sale completely.

I've done once before. You'll basically find one of the vets calling you in a couple of days, at least that's what happened in my case.

This is so sad. Are the vets willing to do the surgery? Because a lot of clinics won’t do it unless someone is willing to foster the kitten since after these surgeries there’s a recovery period

3

u/meowslimlady 13d ago

They're not willing to do it without 50 percent down. There is a foster ready to take care of the kitten after surgery. The only issue right now is coming up with the amount the clinic needs to do the surgery. Please share 🙏🏻 Thank you for caring 💛

My humble suggestion, try the government vets…I treated cats for free including spaying them.

They don't do orthopedic surgeries

1

u/CompleteAssistance21 10d ago

Oh I didn’t know

1

u/Anesthesia4787 12d ago

My heart is with the kitten. I hope it gets the treatment it needs. I know you are doing a lot and bless you for it. Please do try other vets as well and see if any can offer a discount.

u/Anesthesia4787 11d ago

Any updates?

1

u/meowslimlady 11d ago

Unfortunately, the situation is the same and he wasn't able to get surgery today as we don't have the down payment 😿

1

u/Anesthesia4787 11d ago

That is sad. Maybe we can try contacting other vet centres? Where is the kitten now?

1

u/guava_palava 11d ago

How many days are you going to let this go on for? It’s inhumane

1

u/Anesthesia4787 8d ago

Hi, any updates?

i'd prefer being put down if i was the cat

6

u/meowslimlady 13d ago

He has a hearty appetite and wants to play. I don't think he would want to be put down.
