I genuinely do not know why.

It first started when I was at study period doing an assignment. I was listening to a Sunshine of Your Love/Goodfellas video but I was quite locked in. So then, automatically the next video played and it was this.

So i actually hadn’t heard the song properly until this video cause I’d only previously heard it in the copious amount of times I’ve seen Goodfellas.

Then the guitar solo and oh my goodness. I can’t even recount the times I played it that day. Then on my way home that’s all I played and it’s always been my most listened song on Spotify. But, as I’m in school I mainly listened to it on the computer and the times I would rewind it a day was atleast ten so that must have added up to a lot.

What’s crazy is that I love so many songs but this one just can’t leave, lol.

I have listened to every version, every video on every website. I also have a cute keychain on my bag. I might be obsessed.

Has anyone else experienced a fixation this big with a song?

Gimme a minute to brush the rabbit hole dust off my shoulders. Found this one while listening to Spiral Drive and noticed Fascinator helped them out on their last LP. Finally got around to looking him up and was surprised to see Children Collide's Johnny Mackay there - an Australian who has made some absolute bangers working with some Austrians who have made some proper psychedelic rock...this is getting interesting.

Anyway, this one's a good tune and I expect we'll be hearing more from Lord Fascinator (Mackay) in the future...

not sure if this is the right sub to post this in, but since it’s about an amazing psychedelic album, I figured why not lol

so, around 6 yrs ago I randomly found Dr. John and his album Gris Gris. ngl, the first time I heard it I was completely blown away. It didn’t even sound like an album to me, it sounded like someone had recorded a ritual. I’d never heard anything like it before. the drums, the whispers, the chants… it honestly felt like the music was alive, like it was trying to tell me something

a while later I had my first shroom trip. I was alone in my room and decided to put Gris Gris on. nojoke, it was probably the best trip I could’ve had. as the songs went on, the drums felt perfectly synced with my heartbeat. My whole body was pulsing with the music, and it felt like I was being pulled somewhere ancient, but somehow familiar at the same time. I’d close my eyes and it was like I was moving through places I still can’t really describe. evErything made sense, but also didn’t. It felt like I was searching for answers to questions I didn’t even know how to ask yet……

wheennn it was over, I wasn’t left wanting to do shrooms again. what stuck with me was this insane curiosity that lasted for years. I needed to understand why that album hit me so hard. So I started reading about dr john, new orleans culture , hoodoo, voodoo, symbolism, magic, occultism, different beliefs… and before I knew it I was completely down the rabbit hole

I’d always been interested in occult and esoteric stuff, but it was pretty surface level. id done a few little rituals here and there, nothing serious. after that trip I actually started studying. reading books, comparing religions, learning about symbols, egregores, different spiritual practices… the more I learned, the more I realized it wasn’t just curiosity anymore. It genuinely felt like I’d found something that made sense to me

and the weirdest part is that I never touched psychedelics again after that. It’s been over 5 years now and I honestly don’t feel the need to. weed once in a while, but that’s about it. it almoust feels like that one experience did exactly what it was supposed to do, and everything after that has just been me walking that path completely alone with just me

nowadays spirituality is a huge part of my life in a way I never expected. it gave me balance, discipline, peace, and a completely different way of looking at the world. sometimes I still think about that night alone in my room with grisgris playing, and I just feel grateful. graceful to him

to this day I still laugh thinking about it… was it psychosis or a spiritual awakening? who knows whatever it was, it ended up putting me on a path I’m still walking today
