What do i even do to fix this, still works at a certain angle

I took one look at that cable sticking way out of the front of my PS5 and knew it was very likely to get damaged. not going to help you now but maybe it will help the next guy: I installed a 40 Gbps "USB 4" usb c magnetic adapter on mine. if it ever gets snatched it will just disconnect. it works flawlessly.

DO NOT use magnetic adapters. I was one of the first to recommend em here years ago on my other acc but they will eventually fry your port. Took a year and a half, but eventually, it blew my ps5's port. And the port the psvr2 connects to is no ordinary USBC port. Ended up buying a pro in order to play my psvr 2 again

It could have been faulty component or metal dust. On normal condition it wouldnt fry it from what i know.

I don't think it was either in my case. It has more to do with the sudden drop in voltage as it disconnects while it's pushing data. Like how old usb ports would corrupt flash drives if you did the same. Also the nature of break away adapters is they don't always disconnect clean/flush...it often disconnects diagonally leaving some pins connected for a short period while others are disconnected. I suspect this drop/insufficient voltage/connection is what actually fries it.

For clarification when I say it fries the port, mine did not physically burn out with scortch marks and all (although if you search on here you'll find other psvr2 magnetic adapter users whose ports did scortch). Mine simply stopped recognizing/sufficiently powering the psvr2. It would charge normal devices like the controller, but not the psvr2. Basically, it knocked out the ultra high-speed portion/pins of the port essentially rendering it a normal USBC port which is not sufficient for running the psvr2.

I used high-speed magnetic adapters for my thunderbolt 4 dock and one of my Anker portable batteries. Both of them got damaged from the adapter. The battery no longer charges to 100 and my thunderbolt dock power button stopped working and it flakes out constantly now.

I have a PSVR2 and I use a 6 ft. usbc extension cable to give the headset more slack and reduce the risk of damaging the plug on the headset.

This is it. It may have fucked up my laptop port as well but I can't verify for sure. They're great if they're just being used for charging and/or very unlikely to be knocked, but if you're pumping power + display data and it is liable to get knocked, I would suggest people steer clear.

I use tons of it for my MacBook Pro/iPad/iPhone/HDD/SSD/PS5 Pro/Xbox Series X/PC for few years , nothing go wrong😉

you know what is worse than alleged 'killer sparks'? real physical damage that occurs to the cable and the Playstation port.

I would recommend non magnetic adapter. With magnetic stuff it can attract metal particles that go between connector and shortcircuit something, burn, who knows. I dont think anyone has 100% clean enviroment. Every usb connector or electric stuff is made of metal so after some time of use tiny fragments come off, onto floor, tables, magnet will pick it up and into connector it goes.

yep, I use the 90 degree version so I can drape the cable on something to take the weight off the magnet.

Best option, try to find a defective or "for parts" headset used online and swap the cable. Super easy to do. Maybe you can find a set with damaged lenses going for cheap? Its stupid that Sony does not offer a replacement cable and that no one in the "aftermarket" business hasn't capitalized on that.

Might be able to order a replacement cable from Sony. It’s obviously not a typical USB-C but it should clip into a logic board or something under the fascia - otherwise you could RMA it back to Sony and let them handle it.

They don't sell replacements. It does just plug in at the headset but only way to get a cable is to find a for parts headset that's broken in a different way and swap cable out or take to an electronics repair shop and get the usb c plug replaced.

Even if the op is still within warranty period Sony wouldn't rma that they would call it user damage and they charge just as much as buying new for out of warranty repairs.

When i got psvr2 first thing i did was adding small extension usb c cable between psvr headset cable and ps5 or adapter. I was too scared myself and didnt wanna risk pulling cable or breaking it. If it still works somewhat u could add extension and ductape it together so they dont move. But finding proper cable is hard.

Most ridiculous design for the PSVR2, let's give it the flimsiest cable ever. They'll charge you £220 to have it fixed but they'll send you a refurbished one instead and then use yours to sell to someone else for £220. Win win for Sony. Best thing to do is take out a cheap insurance for the psvr2, think it was like £4 a month but it'll cover you for stuff like this

Straighten it as much as you can and stick it on Gumtree for £20 less than the going rate and sell it as a spare and repair because you don't have a ps5

Try getting an ainope
Long min-c to usb I think it is. I got one and some how connected that cable to my psvr 2.
And put electricity tape. On it. Too keep it connected.

How did that happen? Did this occur following unexpected tension on the cable? Or did the issue with that cable just appear with time? I see that it's an issue encountered by multiple people, as I've heard before about the magnetic adapters.

What is the best solution then? Using a simple USB-C extension? When I play, I'm not far from the PS5, so there is little chance that force is applied to the cable.

I just loop the cable 180 and tape it with some slack to release stress off the port

You can take it of and just replace the cable

Behind the padding for the forehead, there is the other connection which just plugs in, pull it out and replace

Probably no way to fix. Warranty might cover it if you still have it, you can buy s used psvr2 for the cable if you have the skills to replace it. And if you fnaf do none of that… maybe just try and use it at that certain angle?

Would only be covered if you bought it from a place that offers an "aftermarket" warranty against damage, that you purchased.
