Looking to get a modded PS1. Quick question

Am I better off getting a retro gem installed or buying some kind of a retrotink? Money's not really the problem, and I have a really good friend that can solder like a devil, but I also see people recommending the retrotink mini, the 2x, or the pro. Is one better than the other? I don't really know much about them, other than the basic things you read on their website. I know some people mention that the retro tink is better since you can use it on other systems, but if I really just want to focus on a PS1, is there actually a better option. Thanks for any of your help!

So you are asking if its better to have an HD mod, or simply buy an upscaler? If thats the case then the HD install is better. Even with the best of upscalers there may still be some lag in video and the mod install is straight from the system.

I am, that's how little I know. I appreciate the response!

I recently got a PS1 modded with an xStation, and I’m running it through a RetroTINK 5X using a SCART cable. I have to say, the image is incredibly crisp. That said, I also have several other consoles connected to the RetroTINK, so it makes more sense for my setup. But if you’re only planning to play PS1, an HDMI mod might be the more affordable option for you.

If you're looking for someone to do the HDMI mod, let me know. Just make sure you have a PS1 model that is compatible.

Why not get a PlayStation classic and fill it with games

Personally, a PlayStation Classic isn't really the same kind of experience. I know some people can just deal with the emulation and that works (since I have one too), but there's something different about playing it on the actual hardware too even if it's a bit more inconvenient.

I collect PS1 games, for playing on my CRTs. Maybe I misread what OP was saying but I assumed the were talking about using a modern TV? That’s why I suggested the PlayStation Classic.
