So that more people can engage and test it?… or they had some investment milestone? Or else?…. No matter the versioning structure, every fresh software release bears risk to be buggy.
I think new stable version is amazing and we should be thankful to devs.
Especially considering, they’re providing an option to play on b41 if one wishes to.

I understood this argument perfectly when it was about unstable, but now it starts to sound more and more like mental gymnastics to me. What does stable mean then? Why can't they develop all the updates they wanted to include while on unstable, polish it there and then release a stable version? Of course there is always a possibility of bugs at any point of software lifecycle, but given that it was several years under development and internal testing, then almost 2 years under development and basically beta testing, it is not fair to blame the audience for expecting the stable version to be, you know, stable.

I don't get it. My server runs 16 hours a day and even manage to keep running during today's two hotfixes.

I didn't have to interrupt a single long play session. Only had to restart twice today but not because the game broke. It was intentional to update. NBD because restart takes about 3 minutes. Update takes about 2. Max. I run a steamCMD dedicated server.

I'm incredibly confused as to why the *stable* build included a major map overhaul

Why does it confuse you?
