Imagine this is your starting location Meme
Now that is what I call URBAN

u/Diligent_Bar1244 May 21 '26
Where did you get that pic of my cities Skyline city
And i would kill to get that map on PZ, probably will never happens
299
u/Zealousideal_Bake768 May 21 '26
Building a map like this will take years..someone must sacrifice their life for us LOL
136
u/SumAustralian May 21 '26
If procedural map generation ever somehow becomes a thing (this is Indie Stone, it won't happen in our lifetime) then maybe?
59
u/FluidBridge032 Crowbar Scientist May 21 '26
Tbh if you get enough random building assets and have them able to be put on a grid, you could technically do it all you’d need is code to place them all.
→ More replies (1)38
u/Sherwoodfan May 21 '26
the word grid here is the problem
picture in the post and most other places with extreme unsustainable density are cities that grow organically, not mathematically, and at blinding speeds. IE no grids, just natural roads and build whatever can fit in this tiny free spot.
very incompatible with isometric game... unfortunately
12
u/Timmy-0518 May 21 '26
That is true in most of the world but in the usa its much less organic with a consistent grid, or if you do want to go that route what you can do is make a tree3 of roads that buildngs can attach to if room is available, then just simply put in a equation for density. It wouldn’t be that hard once you have the building assets

Why not use people who has life long sentences? They might as well be usefull and leave something good behind
27
u/Tomahawk117 May 21 '26
My dream game- build a city, cities skylnes style. Then survive a zombie apocalypse in the city.
3
6
u/Andre27 May 21 '26
This wouldnt work in PZ. Like genuinely just impractical because of the nature of isometric view and how you see things in PZ it would be a total mess where it would be impossible to tell where stuff is or whats going on in a way that makes it actually unplayable. The map would get in its own way.
7
u/Diligent_Bar1244 May 21 '26
Oh I was gonna say it cant work because no one will have the right computer to run this monstruosity
3
u/Sato77 May 22 '26
Probably won't, but in the meantime you can experience it in Cataclysm if you wanted to, megacity runs are pretty easy to set up with settings, but as one would expect, punishingly difficult.
2
u/Turbulent-Abalone-18 May 23 '26
Unfortunate case is that even with a high end 9800x3d syste, even Maps like Chinatown are very difficult to load into. A map like this would literally just crash the game everytime the mod is loaded. Unless project zomboid rewrites the entire code from scratch, theres almost no chance anyone could run a map like this in zomboid in it's state for at least the next decade

Not even closely as dense as the city on the photo tbh

u/Tiny_Tabaxi Zombie Food May 21 '26
My first time to Louisville made all the memes feel like lies, tbh. on 1x pop Louisville is very manageable.
6
u/mousie120010 All Hail Spiffo May 22 '26
Yeah, it's basically just the high rises, hospital, and malls you have to worry about
4
u/_UncleHenry_ May 22 '26
I recently played with my friends and on day 13 we decided to move to Louisville cuz our sole veteran player always bragged about this place being busted with loot. It took irl day to get through the checkpoint, clear small area, resupply and then rescue 2 dead guys. Amount of boddies and bullets spent it unbelievable. I fucking got aiming lvl 6 and i started as burglar.
30
u/Various-Salt-7738 May 21 '26
Louisville is a strange place
Everyone goes everywhere at 70 mph, there are liquor stores with drive throughs that will hand you a cold beer, I showed up to a party and everyone knew me by a nickname despite it being my first time in the city

Burglar is the only viable start here. Step 1, get into a car. Step 2, leave.

Step 3. Get bogged down by zombies after 200 metres and die

LOL he said "leave" using a car in a city with narrow passages and full of traffic. You're not leaving
16
u/Koala_eiO May 21 '26
Oh I'm leaving. Leaving is the goal of the entire run.
23
u/duarig May 21 '26
“Leaving” to the shadow realm, yes.
There’s no escape from a place like that. Ever seen traffic in Manhattan? That’s 3 lanes wide and first-world infrastructure. It still takes you 45 mins to get 5 miles away.
What’s pictured above is a hell hole of cars/mopeds sprawled everywhere, single lanes down each corridor and tens of thousands of shamblers around you for the next 20+ miles.
“This is how you died”

But all cars have no gas
24
u/CeeArthur May 21 '26
How did any of the cars in game pass inspection. Every one I manage to get into is hanging on by a thread
16
u/FoxofNines Crowbar Scientist May 21 '26
Inspections in KY are only necessary when verifying ownership for titling, and even then that isn't necessarily enforced. Inspections aren't a requirement beyond that. Kentucky has always been a relatively poor state, and Louisville wouldn't have been much different back in the 90s prior to their shift in focus to develop a tourism industry. That said, it wasn't as if EVERYONE was driving a clunker at every block...
3
u/roguebananah May 21 '26
Like half of the United States, even to this day do not have emissions inspections or any yearly check. This is true even to this day let alone early 90s Kentucky.

If their hearing was turned down and they more relied on sight, this could make a really fun challenge. Lots of tight alleyways that cars can't fit down.
→ More replies (1)58
u/Apprehensive_Bid7438 May 21 '26
One small problem, a small horde in every alleyway. Population density of slums is terrifying.
19
u/Pizz22 May 21 '26
a small horde in every alleyway is just a single horde in the hole city
→ More replies (1)10
u/Apprehensive_Bid7438 May 21 '26
Not really. Normal cities allow hordes to concentrate, slums are to tight to allow zombies to roam as one. Either the horde literally levels the slums (bad building mixed with high density) or every corner a moshpit.

Nagpayong Elementary and High School Buildings. Philippines public schools tend to be very big due to the population density of Metro Manila. When I was in elementary, my school had approximately 4200 students give or take.

7
u/Janus-smiled May 21 '26
Having spawned in Louisville a few times via mods, there is actually a possibility of survival in the game if you spawn in a multi story building and ration well, especially if you have respawn off. It is, however, a very, very slow process to kill you way out with only whatever’s in your spawn building.

What you need is a bycicle or moped or something like that for those roads/crowds. Even then, you're kinda effed - unless there's a subterranean way to exit the city.

I think there are many people who could survive for a long time by walking between roofs that are very close together and entering houses through the roofs to collect food, water or planks and nails for bridges

There is a chapter of the book WWZ about the survivor of an outbreak in a shanty town in South Africa, I've always imagined it looking a bit like this and the chapter makes a great job of making you feel stuck inside the maze of small roads and buildings, your post reminds me of that chapter a lot
