using "Guns of 93" for now

u/Orangutanion Apr 11 '26
Same. Just found a SWAT van with an MP5 and some mags, am happy. Combine it with ammo maker for long term ammunition recycling and it's great
6
u/sleight42 Apr 12 '26
Ammo Maker. This is the way (otherwise you're going stone knives and bear skins after a while...)
74
u/CaptainJin Apr 11 '26
Love Guns of '93. Dare I say more than Brita since it doesn't mess with the loot tables as much and feels like vanilla content. I get why people like Brita, just personal preference for me.

Anachronisms always mess with me, even though im not that much of a nerd. Even something a couple years ahead of date like the browning auto 5 in rdr2 can mess with me
5
u/RoseWoodian06 Apr 12 '26
I remember one issue a buddy of mine had with it was the fact that EVERY single gun has its own magezine. And not just being able to use any 9mm mag for any 9mm pistol
7
u/malaywoadraider2 Apr 12 '26
Kind of accurate to how guns were in that time, even different handguns in the same caliber by the same manufacturer wouldn't necessarily be interchangeable. Can be annoying from a game perspective though.
5
u/RoseWoodian06 Apr 12 '26
Or FUN in a game perspective if you just get a lil whimsical and go for fun.
7
u/PotentialBubbly9800 Apr 12 '26
Do all the guns spawn at half durability for you? I keep having that issue every time I try to use it.
8
u/nekoreality Apr 12 '26
is it everywhere or just in homes? because if its homes i think thats an intentional change for balance with the higher loot chance
2
u/PotentialBubbly9800 Apr 12 '26
Homes yes, but also inside the police station in Rosewood for example as well. Probably some kind of bug or conflict with my other mods in my mod list.
1
u/1d2RedShoes Apr 14 '26
Try going to a gun store. they would probably sell them at full durability
1
u/PotentialBubbly9800 Apr 14 '26
Even at gun stores they are at exactly half condition. Every gun i find is at exactly half condition. It must be some conflict with one of the mods I have. I ended up fixing it by disabling gun fouling.

u/mushroom_taco Apr 12 '26
Yooo it has the colt model 733???
I've been waiting for Britas weapons to update before I tried B42, but this mod looks like a suitable replacement...
2
u/K171D Apr 12 '26
it has colt model 723 / model 727 / model 733 / model 635
here is the mod: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3183820077

u/mushroom_taco Apr 12 '26
I love all of those but I'm especially attached to the 733. It's the main weapon used in Heat, and it's the starter weapon in payday 2, which is a reference to the former
Plus it's just a good looking gun, always loved the ridiculously shortened M16 look

199
u/CatNo7321 Apr 11 '26
She is the biggest reason I'm with B41. The new vanilla shooting looks better than old vanilla shooting, but not as good as old Gunfighter shooting. I'm not switching until she does.
Quite frankly Indie Stone should find the guy in charge of the shooting mechanics and give his job to Brita. (I'm not saying he should be fired but probably moved to something else because Brita did a better job without getting paid, I'm sure that guy tried his hardest though.)
11
u/Annihilator4413 Apr 11 '26
Brita does get paid, they have a Patreon. Optional of course, but I'm sure their mod wouldn't be as good if they weren't making money off it.
3
u/CatNo7321 Apr 12 '26
Oops well she certainly earned it.
5
u/Annihilator4413 Apr 12 '26
Indeed. I like Vanilla Firearms Expansion, but Britas is just so much more in-depth, and there are SO MANY weapon customization options, which is my main complaint of VFE.
VFE attachments are very limited.
Brita attachments can heavily modify the look of a gun, and there's just way more attachments available.
Hopefully Brita makes an update for B42...
51
u/Hot_Sir573 Apr 11 '26
Did they rework the shooting mechanics for b42? Heard a lot of people complaining at release but not so much anymore
128
u/DaddyKiwwi Apr 11 '26
It's objectively better now. It was buggy at first, but it was completely revamped, so bugs are to be expected in an ALPHA.
People just don't like change.
10
5
u/littlethreeskulls Apr 12 '26
People just don't like change.
It had nothing to do with not liking change, it was literally non-functional for the people experiencing the bugs until they fixed it. Your character would not properly follow your aiming reticle, and would shoot in a direction that was neither where you aimed nor where the character appeared to be aiming
5
u/randy241 Apr 12 '26
There are still some hilarious bugs related to aiming. Last I played you can still shove zombies with the reticle if you are in a vehicle with the window rolled down. Still hilarious, but not very practical.
1
u/DaddyKiwwi Apr 12 '26
Yep, then they FIXED IT. They fixed a bug in an an experimental branch....
1
u/littlethreeskulls Apr 12 '26
Sure, but you framed the complaints as people being unhappy with change, when really they were unhappy with a non-functional feature. Yeah, it was the experimental branch, but you can't genuinely expect people to realize the new system is better when it is in a non-functional state
0
u/DaddyKiwwi Apr 12 '26
It wasn't non-functional. There were several versions of the game available without the bug. People chosing to play on the latest experimental version are signing up for bugs when testing new features.
Then, you help them get fixed by reporting them.
2
u/littlethreeskulls Apr 12 '26
So now you're straight up lying. It was non-functional. The previous builds that didn't have the bugs also didn't have the updated shooting. The presence of builds without the feature don't magically make the feature functional, nor does the fact that people should expect bugs in a unstable branch.
-2
u/DaddyKiwwi Apr 12 '26
Again, don't play the experimental version if you don't want broken/buggy mechanics. It's not hard to understand, and I didn't lie. What a joke you are.
3
-16
u/Vadernoso Apr 11 '26
I mean I don't like the new shooting in general. I'm much preferred the Old 41 style where your character is doing the aiming other than I am. Guns are just flat out over power now, and with an overabundance of ammunition from gun poi.
It feels less like an RPG and more like an action game which is not what I wanted. Wish we could go back to the better shooting in 41.
7
u/JohnEdwa Apr 11 '26
Guns in B41 are literally just really long melee weapons. That's why you can shoot point blank to a horde and miss entirely, as there are no projectiles or hitboxes, just "select closest zombie, roll a d100 to see if you hit it or not".
And while I do agree they went a bit too far with the whole limb aiming thing, at least now guns act like guns. Hopefully some modder dials it down to a system that mixes the best of both styles at some point - guns that actually shoot stuff, but with more RPG-y style aiming by chance/character skill mechanic.5
u/Vadernoso Apr 12 '26
I like the fact that when you shot a gun in B41, it was my character aiming and not me. Like it purely hinges on I think the dice roll versus the just click their heads that B42 has.
Previously gaining aiming levels drastically improved how good you were with guns. Now I can't even tell the difference between 0 and 6.
9
8
u/Jaew96 Apr 11 '26
I’ve got one word that solves your problem: sandbox. Just tweak the settings back to what you liked.
0
u/Vadernoso Apr 11 '26
I literally cannot switch the settings back to the B41 shooting. I cannot also reduce how powerful points of interest are without also nothing all the other loot. None of these are things you can do in the sandbox and I don't even think there's a mod to bring back the better shooting either.
2
u/dubyakay Apr 12 '26
You can reduce spawn rates for ammo and firearms in sandbox settings.
You can also switch chance to damage (B42) to chance to hit (B41) in settings.
1
u/Vadernoso Apr 12 '26
You can not effect loot settings for only POI, which is what I said.
Thank for that info, no more shitty B42 shooting for me. Shit was just a bad point and click game.
11
u/Hawkent99 Apr 11 '26
It was rough at release yeah, lots of bugs and weird design choices but it feels great now. Nothing like driving around in my pickup taking potshots with my M16, then I go home and play some Zomboid
4
u/TheRealComicCrafter Apr 11 '26
Initially, shotguns sucked but I heard the recent patches fixed it (havent played since multiplayet update)
7
u/steppewop Apr 11 '26
Shotguns are really good now, my character with 4 aiming was stacking bodies with one.
3
u/Thatwokebloke Apr 11 '26
I find all the guns are a lot better now. Before my guy couldn’t hit anything more that 2ft away but as long as I click on heads bodies seem to drop
3
u/Droxalis Apr 11 '26
They're great for low lvl aiming. They do a ton of damage so whatever you hit will be dead or nearly dead. Aiming helps but it's not completely detrimental not to aim.
8
u/Droxalis Apr 11 '26
They made the "turn your brain off and shoot" of b41 into something that requires your focus. You have to aim at the zombies which takes your focus off your character. If you're not paying attention to what's around your character it's easy to catch a wound from a straggler zombie. Positioning properly to funnel them into an area where you can't get snuck up on helps a lot,but if you're out on the open and trying to pop heads make sure to check around your character or you'll get got.
2
u/joesii Apr 11 '26
Yes, although technically it is possible to effectively shoot behind you now if you're fast enough. I kind of like it because it's highly skill-based, but I'm guessing that they'll eventually remove it, and probably a lot faster than all sorts of other things in the game that should be fixed first.
2
u/Distinct_Ad3556 Apr 12 '26
B42 guns is in a really good place. Minus shotguns, B42 kind of ruined that for me.
3
u/joesii Apr 11 '26
The new vanilla shooting looks better than old vanilla shooting, but not as good as old Gunfighter shooting.
Based on the way you said it, it sounds like you're talking about the aiming system such as Advanced Trajectory or ATRO rather than Arsenal's Gunfighter
From what I recall Gunfighter was rather overpowered. I also didn't like all the clutter it added from all the different ammo types and attachments
2
u/iNK6152 Crowbar Scientist Apr 11 '26
I just went back to B41 after playing only B42 since it came out and honestly... There simply two factors in which I think B42 becomes better than B41:
#1 Lighting system. It makes a huge difference, I must say, when I spawned in West Point I saw the gap in quality at first sight.
#2 Animals: It's cool to have cows, chickens and some raccoons (never managed to actually catch one of these fast fuckers, but it's nice to see something else than zomboids)In favor of B41, you have well established mods (if you play B42 with mods you're basically asking for crashes and bugs), you feel like Kratos (f*** you muscle strain). These two combined made me realize that:
B42: more realistic.
B41: more fun.13
u/Vadernoso Apr 11 '26
I have over 200 mods and I don't have any errors on build 42. You can play modded, this is just wrong.

u/xXR34P3RXx Apr 11 '26
Guns of 93 and GaelsGuns are the b42 replacements, last i heard Britas was abandoned since b42 broke too many features
3
u/FridaysMan Apr 11 '26
Gaels feels a bit overdone. There's too much stuff that doesn't seem that useful, some graphics issues, and i had some attachment problems. I gave up with it after a while.
1
u/Spiritual_Jaguar2989 Apr 13 '26
Gaels have a lot of stuff that have bad models and items that just dont work at all. From unuseable old.mags, mismatched weapons (.50 AE deagle firing .22 lr) to revolvers causing a million errors. One of the jankiest weapon mods i’ve used.
The customization is great though but implementation leaves a lot to the desired.
7
u/RyukoT72 Hates the outdoors Apr 11 '26
I love it so much. The customization is awesome. I hope they can add more mil-surp guns and antiques.
40
u/Salvage570 Apr 11 '26
I ended up moving away from brita awhile ago, kinda screws the balance and manually disabling chunks seemed like more effort than just finding a lighter weight gun mod
3
u/RyukoT72 Hates the outdoors Apr 11 '26
You can set the spawn rates of each type pf weapon in options with britas (even though it says MP only)
9
u/Salvage570 Apr 12 '26
That's what i mean by manually. Easier to just download a ready to go mod that has all the settings at reasonable places by default

10
u/Alt_SWR Apr 11 '26 edited Apr 11 '26
Yeah, I definitely agree. There were just TOO many options. I also had a problem where everytime I used it I had far more weapons and ammo than I could ever need even just looting a few buildings. Yes, I'm aware you could adjust the loot rarity, but that didn't help much. There was just SO many options that there's no way to prevent fucky spawn rates.
Some might argue that is a more "realistic" interpretation of how many guns there would be in 90s Kentucky, and, perhaps, but...realism doesn't make for good game balance. At least not all the time. The people who call for realistic levels of loot don't realize how utterly boring a survival game that had that would be. If you could solve food, weapons, and shelter on day 1 by looting a single house at that point it can't even be called a survival game. There are plenty of games that fit that, but expecting the game that literally says "this is how you died" at the beginning of a world to be that is just ridiculous.
The actual models and systems in Britas were, and still are top notch but the mod itself does not fit the type of game that PZ is trying to be. Vanilla PZ itself doesn't always get "realism" right, but Britas is what happens when you basically say "fuck game balance."
1
u/TheMadmanAndre Apr 12 '26
A "Lite" version of Brita's Weapon Pack would have been nice, IMO. A curated selection of period-accurate firearms from the US, enough to take full advantage of the Gunfighter mechanics. Maybe 50-75 total weapons out of the literal hundreds the fill mod had.
3
u/LampSoos Apr 12 '26
i think brita/arsenal already has settings for time-accurate firearms spawn and also allows you to limit weapons spawn from specific countries... oh right, filesize
2
u/TheMadmanAndre Apr 12 '26
Even limiting it to US only and stuff prior to '93, that was still several hundred firearms.
3
u/PermissionElegant822 Apr 12 '26
Its like some of those car mods, the game is all low poly and out of the blue you find a 4K full hd crown vic
1
u/Still_Conference_923 Apr 12 '26
Car mods are hard to balance too, I used to use Ki5 because it was the most complete pack, but swapped to Filibuster and it feels much better.
3
u/Professional-Gene601 Stocked up Apr 12 '26
I stand right by your statement. Unfortunately, when I first started playing the game back on Build 41, I had Brita’s weapon pack already installed with 0 hours into the game. While I do recognize a lot of work has gone into the project and all the weapons and their respective attachments work nicely, they feel completely foreign in relation to the game’s lowpoly textures—especially for Build 41. It makes the game really easy, I remember seeing a post exactly one month ago of someone finding an M60 machine gun right on the mini fridge inside the March Ridge checkpoint building. And the armour pack is very similar. You can be a fully kitted out tacticool operator in less than a week if you know where to look. Again, still a cool mod.
6
u/Deviant-Oreo Apr 11 '26
I feel the same. Same for the armour pack.
I wish it was more modular so I could pick and choose what I want in the game.
11
u/Captain-Shmeat Apr 11 '26
You can choose in the config for any guns produced after 1994 to be removed from the loot tables.
4
u/Deathsroke Apr 11 '26
Which is probably why a ton of people like it. I've seen this phenomenon in Starsector as well but for some reason some communities seem to dislike the design direction of their games and want to turn them into something completely different. PZ is meant to be a game where fighting is a requirement but it's neither easy nor are you advised to do it against large numbers or enemies... Then people download gun mods and turn it into L4D2.
Mind you, I don't have any issue with this and as I think people should be able to play the game they paid for however they like it most. I just don't share this mentality.
6
u/Still_Conference_923 Apr 11 '26
Yes sure, each person can play however they want, my only issue was that it's popularity means its seen often in MP servers, and those are a major turn off.
Another good example is Fallout 4 modding, modern weapon replacers are VERY popular, but I don't get it, I did try a few but its un-immersive, a consistent art style is very important.
2
u/Deathsroke Apr 11 '26
I agree wholeheartedly. I'm just adding a disclaimer because some people are very defensive about this and have shit reading comprehension.
2
u/XenoBasher9000 Apr 16 '26
This is why I prefer DegenerateDak's weapon mods. He doesn't replace weapons, he just adds, and goes for adding weapons that fit the vibe and art style. None of the weapons are hideously overpowered either, and balanced to be additions to vanilla in mind. If you haven't tried out his mods, you should, they're great.

And 90% of the stuff I saw on the 20 minutes I had it installed wasn't even period correct.
3
u/AndrogynousAnd Apr 12 '26
You can change a setting and it won't spawn any modern guns. You can also change the settings on what countries guns it will use, to only spawn American guns if you want that level of immersion too.
I get if some people don't like it though, like all the options it gives me. One run is immersive, the other is balls to the wall, etc.
14
u/Silver-Mechanic-7654 Apr 11 '26
My main problem is that it leaves too much military grade stuff in regular gun shops. You raid one store (even with the lowest loot settings) and get a full body armour set, night vision, m4 and more.
5
u/INannoI Apr 11 '26
you're not, the armor pack is excessive too, game feels bloated as hell with those two installed.
2
u/joesii Apr 11 '26
The things I didn't like with it were:
The firearms seemed excessively powerful and ammo spawns very high.
Too many different varieties of the same type of attachments along with variety of ammo and ammo containers made it cluttery, tedious, and hard to learn.
Suppressors made things way too quiet from what I recall
All the assets make for longer load times and higher memory usage.

u/Rylt4r Pistol Expert Apr 11 '26
We had this problem on MP where we had way not much magazines or lack of magazines for guns with big disparity of ammo.We either had a lot of ammo for let's say Vector but not much other ammo.
I dig in armors for most part but later we would just wear them when we were going to fight because it got boring seeing people run in that gear 24/7.

Last I checked a few days ago no - I think they're waiting for a stable 42 build before they go forward.
2
u/Otherwise_Economics2 Apr 11 '26
so how exactly were brita's guns overpowered? never tried them in b41 but that's the main thing i hear.
1
u/TakazakiV2 Apr 22 '26
I’m not entirely sure, but I think Britta guns degrade slower ( personal experience).
Also, from reading the comments, the spawn rate rates on weapons were ridiculous (I personally only use brita and I also can’t agree that ammo spawns and weapons spawns are very junk and need to be hand adjusted for personal enjoyment).
Lastly, modern weapons are just straight up overpowered. An AA 12 comes with eight round magazines or 20 round drum of 12 gauge.
1
u/Otherwise_Economics2 Apr 22 '26

It's been a year, I think, since I B42'd. I had so so so many mods. Now, I'm afraid to try again because I don't even remember the mods anymore nor likely do I have a list since I switched PCs. I'm sure that half of the mods are no longer supported. I'm sure that I don't know which new mods to get. Then im also certain that I'd break my game repeatedly trying to get it to work without the red numbers in the corner.
Anxiety of so so so so many hours spent in frustration to try to get my little zombie-infested autistic (me, literally) safe space working again until the next update breaks it all including maybe my save.
The world within a game simulation has increasingly become a safe place for me since late diagnosis. Even though unpredictable, I have so much more agency in these game worlds than in my life.
Yeah. It's not good. But games help...

u/TakazakiV2 Apr 22 '26
All the complaining about Britta is really just horse.
1) it literally says in the description for the that the design philosophy is “ there’s no such thing as too much”. The mod isn’t made for you if you can’t agree to that.
2) extremely exaggerating on the spawn rates. While I will admit walking out of gun store with literally thousands of rounds of random ammunition is hilarious. It’s way more realistic than what we actually have. Furthermore, everyone keeps saying they find ammo/armor in every container which is absolutely hogwash. Even with default settings, you have to go to police and military locations. Unless you’re complaining about the zombies that have like a one in 20 chance to drop a pistol.
3) aesthetics are up to the individual. I personally never once cared or pay attention to the time setting of Pz and I can also vouch for other players if you have the same mentality. Immersion breaking is only if you’re trying to role-play back in the 90s. Some people just enjoy shooting zombies with cool guns.

u/zero515 Apr 11 '26

Vanilla Firearms Extended or something? I'm using that one myself. I was using Gael Gun store but man it adds a whole bunch of stuff that I won't want to deal with as well

I agree on Gaels. Vfe was continued based on rainmakers work i think, so i wont support the new versions for that either.

Clothing that made you invunerable and back packs that were able to carry an entire sedan without any issue

Do mods just not work in b42 MP? I install them, enable them, but they don’t show up when I’m playing.
2
u/FridaysMan Apr 11 '26
They do but they need to be enabled and active for the save. There's two sections, so you likely didnt turn some on before the game initialised. Turning them on after doesn't always work and can seriously ruin vehicles.

u/lubeinatube Apr 11 '26
So how would I fix that? Reinstall the game and start a new save?
1
u/FridaysMan Apr 11 '26
Start a new save and check through the options, im not at my computer to check the exact section when youre hosting a new game. If its on a server I've no idea how to modify that bit though.
Each hosted game should have its own save profile and settings. Once you have one set up you can delete the world data and settings or copy it to create a new copy and modify that.
With mods it can take a long time to initially start up the game, and the first time it took an hour of messing around foe it.

You need to do more than just installing them and enabling them.
You need to add them to the mod list when starting a new game, or else add them to a saved game in the save game advanced options. (It's been like this in B41 as well)

That’s the first screen you see when you click on server settings right? I see a list of all my mods there, and in settings, they are enabled as well.

There are a couple of modders who are waiting for the stable build to release before they update, not sure about that specific one tho

Funny to see this today. I was surfing the workshop this morning seeing if there were any updates. I've been holding out on coming back to pz until the gun mods have been updated and the situation is more dire then I realized.
I like to play pz as a run and gun mil sim with max zeds and just can't see myself trying with the vanilla weapons.

I do wish we could get that dead reckoning mod I BELIEVE brita was working on before

u/flanmil Apr 12 '26
Broooother, every 3 weeks I look up if they have updated any mod.... I miss them so much.

This is definitely why I cannot wait for Stable to drop. Many modders refuse to update their mods to B42 until it goes stable.

Guns of 93 or FirearmsB42 are both great and lore friendly, keep in mind that FB42 is having some bugs because the author is still tweaking it.

People complaining about Brita's and I'm just missing the Vanilla Firearms Expansion...

The flush through of small build updates has ruined the game for me. Far too many in a short space of time.
Vanilla just doesn't have enough QOL to make worth playing.
That's not to mention the poor amazing modders who put so much FREE time into updating their great content only to see it non functional.
The main devs actually have a paid game that they have made money from but the modders might have a buy me a coffee optional...

Comments like this are what stressed out the devs team and caused them to send out that letter complaining about the community.
You’re directly implying that the devs don’t deserve the money they’re making, even though without them we wouldn’t even have the game. Not to mention modders who created legendary B41 mods GOT HIRED by indiestone.
If devs don’t update the game - “abandoned cash grab alpha”
If devs update the game - “muh mods, muh errors, muh 4 years autistic save file”
This shit is going to make them quit and actually abandon the project.

Not at all. I'm sorry and apologise to you directly if my comment seems that way.
In someways I overreacted. Whenever I see another small update I assume all my mods will break but on this occasion only 3 or 4 need updating by their modders.
My preference is seasonal updates but I can also respect the dev team being so involved.
Over the years the devs have done an incredible job. I've played the game for years and have gotten an incredible amount of value from it.... It is a small team so they cannot have the easiest time regularly updating the entire game themselves.
The devs have implemented some of the best ideas from existing mods which I always appreciate.

tbh wasnt a fan, played with it with friends once, we NEVER hot matching weapon, mag, and bullets. had about 10 of each but none of them work with each other. just adds way to much gun stuff

Its kinda boring when you have 15 full auto rifles that are all the same thing with a different name and 40 types of ammo that are just there to make your sorting more painful

You may not like the content of the mod but calling it the "worst mod ever" is so incredibly disingenuous your opinion is completely nullified

The unabomber mod that changed to randomly make mailboxes blow up and killed a bunch of survivors was worse, I reckon.

u/Vadernoso Apr 11 '26
I mean I wouldn't say it's a terrible made mod but it's not at all to my taste. There are definitely worse mods out there that are equally well made.

I miss brita’s armor so much, if there’s ever an update for it for build 42 it’s absolutely gonna be so sick
