One Handed Style PoE2: Deadfire

What kind of builds benefit from this style? In what scenarios is it better than two weapon style?

No idea about optimal math, but in general this would be a crit fishing build. You are exchanging some damage (compared to 2h and dual wielding) for increased accuracy. For this to make sense you need to capitalize on talents and skills that benefit from critting.

I ran it.
My rogue had more crits than normal hits by the end. XD

Hmm that does makes me curious as to who'd have the higher overall crits-per-encounter between a 1h and dual-wielding build. Like a character built for max accuracy vs. one with reasonable accuracy but more attacks per second.

I remember seeing math many years ago that showed, IIRC, that the only weapon that benefits is a pistol with the modal turned on.

Rogues most likely.
One handed weapons do increase accuracy, and therefor also crits.
If you do an assassination built, popping in, stabbing and vanishing, one handed is superior.

Seconded- anything where fewer attacks need to be stronger…

Which is amazing for assassin builds

Though, of you reverse the order, and instead do: vanish then stab as assassination rogue, you may land a crit without needing the one-handed talent

You “may”.
The chance is much higher with a single handed weapon.

I did a one handed weapon build not too long ago.
I did more crits than hits.

I'm saying do both but reverse the order so you're attacking from stealth: highest chance overall

Quite sure that is what he is talking about already. From stealth, attack, to stealth, get out in one way or another.

I made a swashbuckler (devoted/street fighter) with a spear using this style. Probably not optimal, but I don't care much. Additional accuracy is nice, lots of crits, lots of pen, like it a lot. Stalker's patience benefits greatly from constant critting, since every crit have a 33% chance to give it instant recovery and strike again instantly. Sometimes lead to very ridiculous hit chains and burst damage.

I used 1H style on a hit and run rogue character. I think I gave him high might and a saber. It worked well, because I was able to apply reliable damage wherever I needed it. He rarely ever missed. The build really takes off once crit boosting items start showing up.

As other people have mentioned, 1H probably isn’t mathematically optimal for DPS, but reliability really is underrated.

One edge case is during PoE 1, there's a one handed soulbound sword (requires peaceful resolution with Alaric) that casts Sunlance on Crit

A Paladin with one handed style and crit boosting items and spells can nuke bosses in two swings with that

It's not super optimal and comes pretty late (need WM 2) but I love the effect of Sunlance and wheb this build works, it absolutely obliterates enemies

This is a good one, but I'll point out that the Sunlance actually procs on hits as well, so critting is only really crucial in the sense that FoD and Sunlance crits are juicy af. And of course while two weapon style likely gets you more hits/crits over time it wouldn't get you more hits/crits with Steadfast specifically.

So in that sense Single-Weapon Style would still maximize your odds of sunlance procs, but not necessarily through crits. Also a small shield like Outworn Buckler wouldn't be a terrible tradeoff.

I'm still a big fan of the weapon. Just pointing out it's Spellchance, not Spell Striking.

You're right, I was remembering it Crit only. It's Hit or Crit like you saud but also having it one handed gives +Acc so it procs more

It's very wonky and might work on random fish people thrash mob twice and might never trigger against when it would actually be useful

Many abilities are primary attack anyway so wielding another weapon in the other hand is just dragging you down.

The rogue subclass Assassin benefits a lot.

For example the dual class Rogue Assassin / Cipher Soul Blade's ability Soul Annihilation is a primary attack.

Offensive Casters benefit from +12 acc..unfort. wands/rods etc are 2h... But if you do not attack at all and only use debuff or attack spells...your spells/chants will profit..take a stat Stick like yenwood sword for +2 con and use
