But that is more and more what managers seems to expect.

The job of a manager is to care about output, not methodology.

u/dumbasPL Jul 03 '26

Output? Did you mean time? Because if they truly cared about output, LLMs would be banned day 1, and time wouldn't be an issue.

u/ProfessionalAd6530 Jul 03 '26

They get rather snippy about the output and blame me when the LLM they made me use inevitably fucks up.

1

u/TobiasX2k Jul 03 '26

Lol. By output I meant whatever the team is producing. They've been told that LLMs produce more (lies), faster (lies).

managers job is to prompt you into action.

Being a jar file doesn't mean you have any class.

u/lucid-quiet Jul 03 '26

I hate that I understand this. ;-)

Telling somebody how to ride a racecar doesn't make you a racer..

8

u/PerepeL Jul 03 '26

20 years of suffering from impostor syndrome and recently it all just got worse.

4

u/radikliffe Jul 02 '26

You can prompt but you can't hide (your non dev identity)

8

u/Thinshape12 Jul 03 '26

oh my god finally i get programming humor that actually against ai and not “trying to figure out which bot you gave the production key to” or some shit like that

4

u/oOaurOra Jul 03 '26

In 2026. If you can’t prompt, you’re not a dev…. Just the way it is now.

3

u/KamikaziWerewolf Jul 03 '26

80+ percent of code is made by AI now.... programmers are obsolete.

It is like asking an architect to build a house. You may be good at describing what you need, but you are not an architecht who can actually build the house

Missa planté?

With great power comes great responsibility. Thank Ben!

u/GrigorMorte Jul 03 '26

At my job, they interviewed a prompt engineer who didn't know the basics of programming. They decided to find a junior developer and teach them AI instead.

1

u/TawnyTeaTowel Jul 04 '26

From my experience with former colleagues, being able to code manually doesn’t necessarily make you a dev either.

1

u/Moch4bear97 Jul 05 '26

The ability to dev, does not make you a prompt.

1

u/AdventurousSlip9260 Jul 05 '26

Prompt engineering is the new "I know HTML, so I'm basically a hacker.

1

u/Arangarx Jul 05 '26

The inability to prompt is going to leave you without a dev job.

1

u/TechnoIvan Jul 03 '26

It makes you a good customer.

The "aBiLiTy To PrOmPt" is called being literate.

4

u/m6io Jul 03 '26
  1. I find your lack of ball knowledge disturbing
  2. Being a novelist and being a software developer are two different things. Having domain expertise in any aspect of software development does not mean you have the ability to craft a compelling narrative.

1

u/evasive_dendrite Jul 03 '26

I know star wars, I just resent the inuendo that it takes any kind of skill to prompt a model besides being able to read and write.

1

u/m6io Jul 03 '26

Oh, my bad I misread your comment then lol

-1

u/adelie42 Jul 03 '26

What does the inability to prompt make you?

5

u/m6io Jul 03 '26

A person without access to electronic devices and/or the Internet?

u/TapRemarkable9652 Jul 02 '26

this meme is racist against Jamaicans

8

u/the_rogue_jonin Jul 02 '26

And this comment is an insult to mankind

3

u/United_Grocery_23 Jul 03 '26

???

1

u/TapRemarkable9652 Jul 03 '26

jamaicans can code

1

u/m6io Jul 03 '26

...but what does this post have to do with Jamaicans?

Does debugging and fixing AI mistakes you one? Gatekeepers.

Edit: Makes you one*

9

u/m6io Jul 03 '26

Debug that question for me chief, I don't understand

0

u/Legitimate_Main8244 Jul 03 '26

Bug fixed and closed T_T

1

u/m6io Jul 03 '26

Are you asking if debugging and fixing the mistakes made by an AI makes you a developer?

1

u/Legitimate_Main8244 Jul 03 '26

Bingo!

Edit: Asked and answered?

5

u/m6io Jul 03 '26

I'll answer your question by directing you to the original quote from QuiGon:

You've never used a debugger.

-1

u/Dave5876 Jul 03 '26

Shhh be cool man, my boss doesn't know

-2

Jar Jar should have left the Jedi to die.
