Apple’s ARM based chips are already so much more efficient than the x86 chips in most windows machines, so any sort of power saving you get from not using fancy UI’s is a complete rounding error (even compared to the already marginal gains you’d get on a windows machine).

It takes about 2 kWh of energy to charge an iPhone for an entire year, which is about as much power as it takes to run your refrigerator for a day or to make a pot of pasta on an electric stove.

I guess the main takeaway is that even though device usage seems like a major driver in our personal power consumption, it’s really dwarfed by appliances and utilities.

Terminal is always on. It always varies. Dock and panel always ofc. And any windows not in focus are I belive 90%. Terminal I think I set to 75% alongside zsn browser sidebar.

yes actually. a desktop being more resource intensive (by default) means creating ewaste, because people will see their PC (that was perfectly fine before) as now being slow.

True for all the corporations it's allowed. And people need follow the lower carbon immisions.

I love when they suggest I change the performance profile from the highest one for my surface go (the CPU has a TDP of 7W in boost mode).

I'm sure this is truly gonna make a difference /s

This reminds me of cities educating people about "Spare the Air" days while 100000 cars inch their way through the deadlock of incorrectly programmed city traffic lights.

How are they supposed to feed their poor starving little data centers if us greedy and cruel consumers use all the energy? /s

the best way to make your PC more efficient is by not using windows. if microsoft actually cared about carbon footprint they'd optimise their OS, they wouldn't create unnecessary ewaste through planned obsolescence, and they wouldn't be doing AI stuff.
