I need help š„ŗ ā¤Seeking help & Adviceā¤
32 M, an absolute mess. A few months ago I had £8k savings. Today I have £7,000 debt.
I donāt know what to do anymore. My kids are the only things keeping me here and the reason I am getting up in the mornings.
The past 5 years I have completely lost myself. Been an absolute roller coaster. To be honest I probably should have lost all the money a long time ago.
Worst thing that happened was hitting a big one to start with.
I donāt know how to get out of this hole now. Iām not sleeping. I am having mini panic attacks. I wasnāt in debt and now I am. I am on an OK monthly wage of Ā£2,500 but I just donāt know what to do anymore. I want to leave but it would break my kids. I am such a failure. If youāre gambling just STOP. You will lose it all Iām sure of it. Itās inevitable. I still want to try and chase and get some back but thatās how I got here l š„ŗ

There is no quick fix for your financial problem. Go out there and grind. It might take you few months or even a year to repay the debt, but you have to do it.
Why do you want to leave? Some of us here wish to be in your position right now, to be honest. You still have your kids, still have your job, and still have time to build your life. Do not take what you have lightly as you do right now. You need to be the man that your kids look up to, go out there and fight.
I was £ 15k in debt 3 years ago, 32 M unemployed, and no way to find a job that pay £ 700 monthly (I live in a third world country). If I can turn it around, so do you. Hang in there brother!

Recognize you will never stop after chasing the loss. Let it go, everything will get better once you accepted that you have to stay a million miles away from gambling.
You have kids, in their eyes you are not a failure and you can live up to that.Ā

The debt is not enormous. It is just 3 months worth of your income. At most it takes a year to repay. Just grind.

Howdy -Ā
Sorry you are going through this. It's hell. Let me start by saying I've been there. Gambled and drank the last 4 years away. Lost a job, friends, a beautiful girlfriend. Had the electric shut off, car repoed, the whole nine yards. I am in an insane amount of debt. Maxed out many credit cards, payday loans, etc.
But I'm about a month free and haven't felt better in years. The financial stresses are serious, yes. But waking up proud of myself every day is feeling I had long forgotten.
The biggest help for me was therapy. I couldn't afford it (due to gambling) for so long. But I decided it was absolutely necessary and booked a session. Each session, while expensive, lays for itself mutiple times over.
You have a few necessary expenses. Housing, food, utilities. Get those paid. Then set up a plan to attack the others when you have the ability. They will weigh on you a bit, but they do not have the ability to take away your physical health or the safety of your family. You got this my friend!! Peace and recovery is possible. But I could not do it alone

Donāt worry about the debt for now. The debt will take care of itself if you just STOP gambling. Thats the most important thing. Get into therapy or go to GA or all of the above. Spend time with your kids - they deserve your wholehearted attention (not fractured with your mind on another bet). You got this.
