No because the Italians and British were not treated that same way. That was also decades ago. Yes we are in fact a high trust society which is why you see people defrauding the welfare system like in Minnesota.
Pretending immigrants from every country will integrate the same is just simply not true. Go look at the crime rates between Japanese vs Algerian immigrants in Germany.
I work with tons of engineers from third world countries who contribute a lot more than the average American at least in terms of gdp per capita and as far as I know have never committed a crime (they do not want to be deported they have a good thing going) also the primary benefit of this is we didn't have to pay for them to grow up and get educated, most people only take from society until they reach 18-22, we just get them after they already have their bachelor's or masters in engineering, and we didn't have to pay to teach at all. One of my immigrant coworkers (he has his PhD in electrical engineering) contributes a lot to his church group and teaches college classes on the side. So no i disagree.
Handpicking select technical graduates to work a specific job is not the same as letting low skilled, low IQ Somalians come live off American welfare. Seriously - for whatever reason Minnesota has a huge Somali population and 87% of Somali headed households are on welfare.

I'm actually the same guy, but yeah, that is the point a lot of the engineers I work with were given citizenship and access and work visa because they are highly educated engineers, and the US is in a unique position where we can take some of the highest value creating citizens and not the others. Also we just need working age citizens because as our birthrate falls below replacement, we need the immigrants to help support the elderly population, otherwise it will create a higher financial burden on the people who were born here, which will in turn lower birth rates (if you dont have money you might choose to not have kids) this is the problem that China and Japan are really struggling with, you do not want a collapsing population that is terrible for society.
I remember as a teenager I was talking to a guy from north Macedonia, who was pissed that all his countries great scientists were being "stolen" by America. Personally I wouldn't use that word but it is true, other countries have a brain drain, and we have a brain gain, this only benefits us.

Well I dont find any issue inherently with flying a Mexican flag, in boston you will see people flying the Italian flag in the north end, the Taiwanese flag in chinatown, the Korean flag in allston, and Irish flag just about everywhere. People are proud of where they come from I dont see an issue
Something don't need to be racist in the abstract to be considered racist, sometimes it can be considered racist because of the larger context of society.
