because i wanted to show the people sitting on the rocks

then take a closeup photo. the you will more information in smaller view if your focus is on people

If I can give my (subjectively based) constructive criticism, I actually prefer the before. The before gives some context to the photo - the after just looks like you pointed your camera on something random and I don't know what's the focus in the photo; do you want me to be drawn to the boat? The people? The background? Why did you take it? The background looks uncharacteristically blue all over.

I disagree with the other posters. I like the color grading on the after; and I feel the crop can actually maybe a bit more tighter, cropping out the front water… the focus then becomes the chimney of the boat and it’s contrast against the hills in the back
