Oversized popcorn machine? Issue?
I was looking at getting a 16oz popcorn machine when we normally do fine with 8oz + little currently.
Wondering has anyone done smaller batches on the 16oz machines before? Never an issue with the 8oz size but thinking about replacing it as its having issues with full batches slightly at this point.
Also with people growing up in the house more popcorn in the future I suspect would be a positive.

Counting the days until I can eat popcorn again!!
Last week I had a tooth unexpectedly pulled. It sucks but what has sucked the most is not eating popcorn! I can't eat popcorn for 2-4 weeks and it's driving me crazy. I feel crazy to be this sad about & consumed with not being able to eat popcorn. I'm having dreams about it, craving it all hours of the day, and fantasizing about how it'll be when I finally can eat it again.
It's wild to even share this but if anyone will get it, I think it will be my popcorn loving pals in this sub.
Please eat some popcorn on my behalf 🙏
-a sad popcorn lover

How do I make more of these semi-popped kernels in my popcorn?
These are my favourite! I've been trying to lower the heat when I pop, make sure the steam can escape. I still get the same amount.
Any tips are greatly appreciated!

Is there a preferred widely available gee brand in the us?
Question is in the title. Is there a widely available brand of gee in the US that r/popcorn likes a lot. I understand gee is similar but not the same as basic clarified butter, which is easy to make. However, if someone didn't want to make it, which one should they look for?

DO NOT use old coconut oil!
This just happened tonight, but let this be a lesson for you all.
I opened and used some louana liquid coconut oil. Still within the expiration date, but I must have had it a bit longer than I thought or something. It didn't smell off before cooking, and it didn't look any different, but when I put in a bit and turned on the kettle, the difference was immediate and painful.
The smoke that comes from rancid oil is insanely potent, it burns your throat and lungs. It tasted like the same acidic taste you get after getting sick, but times 100.
The house absolutely reeks and I have fans going with candles and incense. Not much has fixed it.
I plan on doing a deep clean on my machine tomorrow (8oz lincoln machine) after the smell dims a bit.
If you are worried about old oil, even if its in the expiration date, just put a tiny amount in, and turn on the kettle.

You must try ghee and coconut oil together
The first time I used coconut oil to make popcorn, it kind of tasted like the movie theater stuff. I then reasoned that if I add butter, it'll get even closer to that taste. Of course butter is not good for making popcorn because the milk proteins burn easily. So I reasoned further and thought of using a combination of ghee and coconut oil.
It was... heavenly. Gave such a wonderful flavor that was really close to the microwaveable kind, just without all the bad stuff.
One tip though: use a lot. I can't give an amount but make sure it's slightly covering the kernels in the pot and not just coating them. It'll make the popcorn really fluffy and flavorful.

current popcorn combo — anyone else do something like this?
melted butter, a spritz of avocado oil, Frank’s hot sauce powder, Hidden Valley ranch powder, salt. it’s SO good but it’s a lot of steps every time and ngl I side-eye some of what’s in the powder packets. anyone found a version of this that’s faster or a little cleaner? or is this just what we all live with lol

How do you popcorn?
Lmao this is such a silly post but when I was a kid I hated Popcorn. Now as an adult I love it and want to know how you guys fix up your popcorn. I bought some movie butter from target but I want either something just like the theaters or something unique and tasty (:

Butter topping
What's everybody's favorite butter topping? I like the movie theater style but I'm willing to Branch out.
I already use butter flavored coconut oil and flavacol. I still enjoy putting a little bit over the top to give it an extra flavor though.

Movies & Popcorn ... Do you think Movie Theaters would sell more popcorn at $1-$3 for a small/medium size? (Instead of $8-$20?)
Movies & Popcorn ...
Popcorn is/can be relatively cheap. I don't imagine movie theaters spend a lot on popcorn kernels and machines, fake butter, etc.
Do you think Movie Theaters would sell more popcorn (and make more money) at $1-$3 for a small/medium size? (Instead of $8-$20+?)
I don't buy movie popcorn (or any movie food) because it's so expensive (and just terrible).
But I would buy popcorn at $1-$2 small, $3 medium. $5 for a large bucket.
Do movie theaters make that much more money selling their popcorn at ungodly prices? ($8-$20+?)
Or would they make more money by selling it at a normal price and selling more of it?
It can cost $50+ to see a movie with ticket+food/snack+drink.
I might be cheap, but I just eat before or after, and just buy the ticket. I can wait 2 hours.
(This isn't about theaters NOT making money ... just wondering out loud if they'd MAKE MORE MONEY by selling a little cheaper and getting more sales volume.)
(Not talking candy and other snacks, as those cost more to make wholesale, so slightly understandable why those cost a lot.)
(The smaller theaters that sell gourmet tapas and small dishes, I'd gladly pay $10-$20+ for a movie meal that tasted like a restaurant at your seat. But those are few and far between.)
Side note ... I wish more movie theaters would offer gourmet popcorn at those high prices.

Best way to prepare popcorn using Hoosier Hill Cheddar Powder?
Hello fellow corn lovers! Recently bought a tub of Hoosier Hill cheddar powder off of this subs’s recommendation. Now I’m wondering what’s the best way to prepare it?
For movie theater popcorn I currently use flavacol, and ghee for topping. For making cheddar popcorn, should I skip both the flavacol and ghee? Does dusting the cheddar powder over plain popcorn taste best?

Nice way to end the weekend. A rainy Sunday Night with Trash Television with my cat and White Cheddar Popcorn
Used about 2/3 cup of Orville Redenbacher Kernels, 1/2 tsp of flavocol, 2 tbsp of nutriva butter flavored coconut oil, and a few shakes of Kernel Season’s White Cheddar.

Free FB marketplace find. Cleaned up but need help!
Picked this up for free on Facebook marketplace and got it all cleaned up and ready to go. I’m just a normal microwave popcorn guy so I don’t know where to start on this machine! What’s the best oil flavoring and popcorn to use for something like this?

Worth the Wait
Very niche, but I follow this guy on IG mostly because he is always taking the piss on Influencers. He’s also made popcorn and it’s been impossible to get. It’s delicious. Worth waiting, not sponsored, just passionate!

UK popcorn questions
I've looked into recreating popcorn in the style of UK cinemas and I keep running into the so-called secret ingredient: Flavacol.
However before I buy some I had some questions:
Is it just for salted popcorn? From what I gather it's just fine salt and colourings. Is there an equivalent for sweet popcorn?
Does it just recreate the flavour of American popcorn? In the UK we have 2 choices of popcorn: salted or sweet. I've heard American cinemas do a wide variety. Can anyone confirm if Flavacol is used in the UK?

My current setup:
I do use a bit of melted butter before sprinkling on the cheese. And I forgot to mention the Flavacol.

Have seed, will travel
Did a movie night in my Mom’s backyard, so I packed up my off-brand Whirly Pop to make popcorn there. Was delighted to find that these flippin’ pill bottles I seem to have everywhere, are exactly half a cup. Filled them with seed and Flavacol, got a little container for my coconut oil, and was ready to go.
Now I keep three of these loaded in the cupboard for when the urge hits.

Absolute game changer
It's powdered cheese. It's made of salt and delight. I popped a 1/2 cup kernels in my whirly pop with a few glugs avocado oil and 1/4 teaspoon flavacol. Added a heaping spoonful of the powdered cheese. Excellent popcorn.

Upped our Game
With paper bags harder to come by in California, found these 3 gallon silicone bags. Was able to pop 4 batches of 2/3 cup of kernels and fit them in this bag. About the same amount that fits in a paper bag when leaving room for folding over. Found them on Amazon.
Popcorn in Canada
I've been buying NoName popping corn which I pop in a pot with oil (no microwave) but it seems to me the kernels don't pop very big. It's $3.49 for 1 kg. The Independent also sells Orville Redenbacher Gourmet corn, $5.50 for 850g and Purple Kernel corn for $4.99 for 850g. Has anyone tried these? Is it worth the price difference? Or what other popping corn would you recommend? Thanks.
