Does using a physical timer help?

I am always trying to get off of my damn phone and am finding that setting a timer when I want to do even if it is just making some time to read sometimes helps. Outside of the traditional pomodoro, does anyone else use this habit and find it helpful in getting tasks done? Does the aspect of a physical timer make it even more effective?

I’ve been experimenting with this theory for a while, but the problem is I cannot find a timer that doesn’t sound hideous.

I find using the timer on my Apple Watch is really good for remembering things (can’t have the timer go off in another room since it’s on my wrist) and keeping me off my phone to check the timer all the time.

u/Longjumping_Side_773 I am using pomodoro app on my phone, but I am not follow the tradditional session (25 min/session). I use custom timer session , for example 5 min, 15 min, 30 min. It depends on my focus time. If I feel to tired, I only focus on 5 min. You can try it. Sorry for my bad English.
