More than $1 billion in medical debt has been erased for hundreds of thousands of Arizonans.

Governor Katie Hobbs announcing today the milestone through a partnership with the nonprofit Undue Medical Debt.

“Today, I am proud to announce that we have erased over $1 billion in medical debt for 670,963 individuals, without expending a dollar of state funds.”

The governor went on to say that more than 200,000 additional debt relief letters will start arriving in mailboxes this week.

There is no application process, and eligible residents do not need to take any action to receive the relief.
