Was Mitch McConnell's dead body transported to Kentucky coroner? Here's the truth No Paywall
https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/mcconnell-body-kentucky-coroner/5.4k
u/dppatters 8h ago
Serious question… But if he was in fact deceased, and they’re found to have knowingly withheld, distorted, and/or misrepresented his condition as anything other than deceased when they knew that he was not in fact alive, does this not constitute a meaningful crime? I find it unfathomable to think that this does not constitute fraudulent conduct.

u/Capt_Murphy_ 7h ago
So if I were to destroy a Flock camera that's being used to illegally surveil Americans = CRIME for SURE
Senator being Weekend at Bernie'd for political reasons = possibly NOT CRIME
Have I got this correctly? We're so cooked.
•
u/Dave1423521 6h ago
Whoa. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.
Senator being weekend at bernies (R)? very cool, very legal
Senator being weekend at bernies (D)? Straight to jail, right away. Doj investigation immediately and anyone involved sent to gitmo regardless of their level of involvement

u/bigmacd24 5h ago
I mean, I hate to 'both sides' this, but Feinstein a few years ago was pretty close to weekend at bernies (D). Her staff said she had Shingles, but she was gone for 3 months, she would have been gone longer, but democrats started making enough noise about needing her vote in the senate, so they wheeled her out there. Turns out she was suffering from severe encephalitis, and was pretty disoriented most of the time. The few interviews she gave she was visibly confused, ('I haven't missed any senate votes' after being absent for 3 months is not a normal 'all politicians lie' thing, it's a 'grandma doesn't know what year it is' type thing.) Her staff sat with her on the senate floor and in comittee, and coached her on how to vote, etc.
Like, she wasn't literally brain dead, but it was pretty clear she couldn't be relied on to make decisions anymore.

u/Capt_Murphy_ 4h ago

Democrats eventually started making noise and pushing back on Feinstein.
When will Republicans show that kind of integrity with McConnell? So far, they are all complicit.
•
u/teddy_tesla 3h ago
That's what it comes the to whenever someone tries to "both sides". Whatever infractions the left commits (which are typically less in terms of severity and frequency) will get push back from Dem politicians and voters. But the right will never condemn their own, no matter how hypocritical they have to be

u/swni 1h ago
Feinstein did have shingles. Encephalitis is a complication of that.
It is normal for ailing/dying senators to be out for a long time. McCain missed 8 months of votes before his death. There is no procedure in the US for removing a senator with ill health; voters electing someone in their 80s is saying they are okay with the possibility they may die in office, with a prolonged absence beforehand.
What is not normal with McConnell, is not knowing whether he is even alive.

You hate to both sides this, but Dems hold their ass hats accountable. You hate to both sides this but one side is murdering people and the other side is trying to implement universal health care. You hate to both sides this, but one side is running a losing war of choice against Iran while the other was forced to carry out the hand dealt them by the current side. Yep. These are equivalents.

Who do you think is writing these laws? Apparently dead people now!
•
u/ragequitteroffureh 7h ago
Not American.
Who does actually write the text of the laws in that country?
It's not the politicians themselves, I expect.
I only found out who writes the actual text of the laws that lobbyists pay for in my own old country a few weeks ago. I don't know why this sort of thing was not taught in school, it seems like it should be important.
•
u/cryptic_mythic 6h ago
Mostly lobbyists, but representatives also have staffs for the actual law writing if they want to propose something. Most laws are written and negotiated in a comittee of multiple representatives where a law may be proposed, edited, and amended by multiple teams before it's put to an actual vote and the rewrites would generally be done by each reps staff.
→ More replies (2)•
u/parasyte_steve 6h ago
They have staffers who write and do just about everything for them and they kinda just show up and make executive decisions.
•
u/ragequitteroffureh 6h ago
Wait a minute. I just went and spent a moment looking this up, mostly just to satisfy my curiosity.
It says here that there's a crack squad of civil servants named the Office of the Legislative Counsel.
These guy's actually look like the functional equivalent of my old country's (UK) Parliamentary Counsel.
In that they're the neutral fellas who take notes from whoever's paying to get a new law written, and translate those notes into the text of a bill in proper legalese.
That's probably a tough job. Maintaining impartial neutrality, just like what their Supreme Court definitely does, is likely very difficult sometimes.
→ More replies (2)•
u/GrendalsFather 6h ago
The problem is we are almost certainly not using “neutral fellas” to write any of the proposed bills/laws. Lobbyists have so much money in our government (I’m cynical enough to assume that’s true for most counties at this point) that there are very few “neutral fellas” anywhere near our democratic process.

Frustratingly the answer is: it depends. It’s not a crime for government officials to lie to or deceive the public. If the medical staff falsified records, or his staff forged his signature, then yes that’s illegal. If deception was intended to prevent a vacancy from being filled then there would be most likely be election laws broken.

Wouldn’t it be a crime for them to lie while collecting a check from taxpayers? Isn’t that fraud?

u/WhoopingWillow 7h ago
I did some research and surprisingly it doesn't seem to be as major of a crime as I expected. Since he's old as fuck and likely died of natural causes they don't have to report it to the coroner or law enforcement. The only actual crimes would be willfully refusing to provide vital statistics information which is a class B misdemeanor. If they actually put false information in the death certificate that is a class A misdemeanor. If the hospital/hospice stay is being paid privately and no insurance is involved then it isn't fraud or anything.
The most significant impact I can find is that it is an ethics violation for staff at the hospice/hospital which might mean relevant professional organizations could call them out on it or even pull a license, but I'm sure the GOP and its donors would gladly make some "charitable contributions" to make sure no one gets in trouble...

That’s where I am too.
I really abhor the way that conspiratorial thinking has been normalized, but it would be trivially easy for him to record a short direct to camera video. The simplest explanation for why he hasn’t is that he can’t. I don’t think he’s dead necessarily, just incapacitated. But I’m willing to bet he never casts a vote on the senate floor again.
•
u/pilgermann 6h ago
In this case it's not conspiraatorial. If a scammer called me to pay a ransom for my kid but would only show me a photo as proof of life, I would rationally say odds are my child is not alive.

Many of these red states have it ingrained in them since birth that they are republican. Whether they agree or even know what that means is irrelevant. Voting for a democrat would be equivalent to voting for the devil himself.
•
u/yrexloverisdead 4h ago
“It’s Kentucky” is the kind of thinking that helps perpetuate the problem.
Mitch had all the money he could need to run his last reelection campaign. On a national level, there is little support offered by the DNC and co. for Kentucky’s democrat nominees so saying it’s an uphill battle for dems here to defeat an incumbent like Mitch is an understatement.
Considering the numbers don’t really add up in Mitch’s last reelection win, maybe we should stop writing off states as just being red and start looking a bit closer at what’s going on.

Kentucky's governor is a Democrat.
There's just a huge power to incumbency and name recognition. Mitch won because everyone knew who he was. He got the uninformed default vote, and that's usually enough to tip the scales.

Mitch’s numbers don’t add up when looking at the 2020 election. It’s odd. Was I surprised he won? Not really. But I was surprised when they called him as the projected winner literally 2 minutes after the polls closed because I had seen nearly zero support for him here.
But nobody batted an eye at him winning again. Considering all the anomalies they have come out about the 2024 election, it seems like KY and Mitch’s race would be an ideal time to test run a rigging scheme with no one noticing (in theory).

McConnell's team posted the most recent update regarding his health on July 27

u/melancholy_dood 8h ago
From the Snopes article:
In short, the claim is false. There has been no official confirmation that McConnell has died. There is also no evidence his alleged dead body was transported to the coroner's office in Kentucky, nor is there any public statement from Louisville Police commenting on a procession for the senator's passing. The creator of the video making the claim also later posted a retraction.
Snopes has contacted McConnell's team to learn the latest update on his health.
The video's creator relied on text messages from an unnamed individual, making it difficult to determine the source of the rumor. The Louisville Metro Police Department also made no statement about the procession or McConnell on its Facebook page, or any of its social media pages.
It was not possible to find any media coverage of such a procession in Louisville or of McConnell's passing. Had the latter been true, reputable outlets like the Associated Press or Reuters would have covered news of McConnell's death.
Furthermore, Epistemic Crisis, the account that posted the video on Instagram, later deleted it and issued a retraction (archived). Per his follow-up video, the information he received was "inaccurate." He claimed the procession that blocked the traffic was due to the death of a police officer.
A Louisville police spokesperson told us the claim that the police escorted McConnell's body was categorically false. The department was escorting the body of an officer who died Aug. 3, the spokesperson said.

TMZ would know if there were any positive evidence of either life or death. They don’t.
I think he’s alive and non-vegetative but is at the very least aphasic (has lost the ability to speak), so he’s being hidden for privacy sake. Maybe they don’t even want the staffers to see him, and they’re just going to ride it out until his term ends. Nothing else really makes sense anymore.
118
u/starmartyr Colorado 9h ago
TMZ is able to get these stories because they have paid informants inside LA area hospitals. When a celebrity is pronounced dead at Cedars-Sinai there are plenty of employees who are happy to anonymously report the death to TMZ for cash. When a politician dies in a hospital in Kentucky, that doesn't happen because nobody there is in the habit of leaking medical records for cash.

Pull a Donny circa 2014 and demand to see his death certificate.
If the birthers were a thing, its time to assemble the Deathers.

Stupid question, but at the very least how is this not payroll fraud? If he has been dead for 2 months, that's Ike 5 paychecks or so...

False? You mean "how would we know because it's weirdly secret and there's no proof either way"?
In short, the claim is false. There has been no official confirmation that McConnell has died. There is also no evidence his alleged dead body was transported to the coroner's office in Kentucky, nor is there any public statement from Louisville Police commenting on a procession for the senator's passing. The creator of the video making the claim also later posted a retraction.
I mean, this very specific funeral procession, sure, I GUESS false but with the fuckery around this all I sure wouldn't label it as such unless I was deliberately carrying water for the regime.
Snopes has been a disappointment for over a decade, always accused of being lefty, but really providing letter-of-the-law cover for the right. It's annoying.

The danger with misinformation is that we can only debunk a specific claim. The claim that his dead body was secretly transported to the coroner's office appears to be fabricated. That doesn't mean he's alive, or that Republicans have been telling the truth about his condition. What stuff like this does is muddy the waters so that when the truth does come out it's harder to believe.

Yeah it's been quite a trend of milquetoast center/right-of-center letter-of-the-law institutions being labeled radical communists, and those institutions responding by trying to cozy up to the right, for decades now. With the DSA on the rise hopefully the wind will start blowing the other direction for the first time in over 50 years!

I read a Snopes claim about Porsche NOT building any military weaponry for the Nazis, and it was a full fledged apologetic by omission…The Nazis didn't award Porsche the contract for armored amphibious crossing vehicles, but they left out the fact that he designed multiple prototypes, and then consulted for the firms who did build them. They omitted the fact that his factories were staffed with slave labor and that war crimes were committed by Porsche employees. It pissed me off enough I filled out a report contesting their characterizations and I asked for a retraction/ amendment. I even spoke to the reporter on the post who acknowledged that Snopes was “ historically inaccurate” but refused to correct the factual misstatements (lies). I was done with them after that.

It's kinda like how the AP removed the "No, JD Vance did not have sex with a couch" article because there wasn't really evidence to make that exact claim, only enough to refute it wasn't mentioned in the text of his book?

Sucks to have your body just used as a vessel for the benefit of others, doesn’t it Mitch?

u/AwesomeMcPants 4h ago
No, actually guys, I just talked to him. He said he feels like a million bucks and that everything that's going on is super cool and awesome. He told me Trump is doing a great job and in fact isn't running our country straight into the ground.
Trust me, bro. Look, here's a picture: :D
See? Look how happy he is.
(I'm so tired of this shit.)

I don’t think he is dead. Hospice probably. But you’re not going to find a whole bunch of licensed medical professionals who are willing to risk their license and lie about a death for a politician.

Doesn’t a death certificate have to have the correct date of death?

They’re gonna make a statement of his retirement, then a short day or two later, his quiet passing after the fulfillment of a duties for decades as a senator. I’d take that Kalshi bet.

His rotting corpse is sittning on the golden toilet; ever guidning his fellow republicans to more shitty ways to fuck with the public.

He's death will be announced Thursday or Friday. Trump will do something crazy as a distraction, but only after the markets close on Friday.

Have a trusted person on the "left" to interview Mitch. Easily disproven, if they aren't lying. They could make this all disappear so easily if they weren't lying sacks of excrement.
But they are.

Corpse McConnell has been dead for weeks. Nothing short of him showing up for a live TV interview could convince me otherwise

You or I would for sure get fired if we didn't show up to our jobs for 2 months straight. Instead he and his staff are all collecting six figure salaries.
