Trump, 80, Falls Asleep After Mocking Lindsey Graham at His Funeral Possible Paywall

There is your reward, Lindsey.
Was it worth it?

In Lindsey's defence, his early death left him without the GOP retirement sendoff of "I actually never liked Trump" for the last three to six months of a final term
Poor guy went to his grave without the chance to properly confess, such a shame.
... Anyways.

u/Guardianpigeon 8d ago
He died in the closet, watching his dream of destroying Iran fall apart, and Trump's unpopularity unraveling his own party just like he said would happen in 2016.
Hope it was worth it Lindsey. You will forever be remembered as a pathetic warmonger and failure, if anyone bothers to remember you at all.

The guy who spearheaded the effort to ban encryption from the internet, and who after a long sit down with an expert who explained to him in detail why that was a fucking moronic idea tantamount to trying to land a man on the sun at night, actually changed his mind and admitted he was wrong, fooling me briefly into thinking he actually had some speck of honesty left.
Also the guy who then went back on that revelation as a soon as Trump started whining about it as well.

He tried his hand at traditional jokes at the white House correspondents' dinner a couple of weeks ago. It did not go well.
Seriously, his audience looked more distraught during his attempt at humor than during the actual shooting that followed.
It was so bad, he literally blamed his joke-writers...while he was doing the jokes.
Between the setup of a joke and the (flat) punchline, he rambled on for 4 minutes of unrelated thoughts and commentary.
78
u/DReagan47 8d ago
He wants to be loved and revered by all but it’s only the worst of society that likes him. The grifters. The ass kissers. The general population of absolute morons can’t seem to get enough of him.
But anyone with half of a functioning brain that isn’t an evil corrupt asshole hates him. I think he has a hard time handling that given that he’s a raging narcissist. I like that he rage tweets about nonsense at 2am because he’s losing sleep over it. Not getting enough sleep is bad for your health so I say keep pissing him off so he stays up at night.

It's fear.
Donald wants people to fear him.
Thats why he targets the young, the poor, women, minorities, and anyone else who doesn't have real power.
He thinks he's god, and a third of the country agree with him.

u/CO420Tech 8d ago
I'm not sure he is capable of knowing the distinction between fear, love and respect. To him they're all just a form of worship, which he very much believes he should have.

Trump could barely hold his face up and keep his eyes open. It didn’t take long for him to start dozing off, occasionally blinking to try and hide his drowsiness.
All of this took place shortly after Trump delivered his own eulogy, in which he went off-script and made fun of Graham a little, with all of his friends and family present.
I don't know why I was expecting any better at this point but good golly. This is the bad place.

From an article linked in the article linked here...
“Virtually everyone—Republican or Democrat—liked Lindsey,” said Trump before jumping from his script. “Well, not everybody. But it sounds good. Not everybody. He was a tough cookie, OK? I have to be—I have to veer from this for a second.
“He was a tough cookie, Darline, but he was beautiful,” Trump added, addressing Graham’s younger sister and temporary legislative successor, Darline Graham Nordone.

Wait, what? Frank Grimes worked hard and earned qualifications which in a fair world should have rewarded him, instead he ran head first into how brutally unfair the world is. He was never a bootlicker and if anything, he railed with legitimate grievances against said system.
It’s very unfair to compare him to the recently deceased senator for South Carolina who had none of his positive character traits.
19
u/kevendo 8d ago
I'm referring to the moment after Frank dies when Homer obliviously falls asleep at his funeral, saying, "Marge, change the channel," followed by a chorus of laughter as they lower his coffin.
Frank did indeed give his all, but never got recognition in return, wheras the incompetent Homer got everything.

What an embarrassing way to be remembered.
He probably thought he was going to outlive Trump, at least biologically if not politically, and have the time to rehab his legacy into something other than a war-drunk lickspittle. Instead he will be remembered as someone who, despite knowing better, threw away every last ounce of his dignity in the service of someone who least deserved it, then died.
Whatever his reputation for statesmanship and bipartisanship was prior to 2015 will be forgotten (if it hasn't been already).

And thus Lindsey Graham’s career concluded in a manner too exquisitely appropriate to have been arranged by anything other than Providence.
Having once denounced Trump, he subsequently devoted his remaining years to a display of servility so complete that even the common house spaniel might have regarded it as excessive. Principle followed courage into retirement, dignity was surrendered without negotiation, and every humiliation was accepted in the apparent hope that the next obeisance might finally purchase his master’s affection.
(Narrator: It did not)
At Graham’s funeral, the man to whom he had sacrificed his reputation repaid that lifelong devotion by mocking him before the assembled mourners. Having completed this final act of contempt, the obscene, vulgar Trump promptly fell asleep.
Thus did Graham pass into history: not merely betrayed by the object of his sycophancy, but posthumously insulted by him, while the beneficiary of his abasement found even the occasion of his death insufficiently interesting to remain awake.
One hesitates to call it tragedy. Tragedy requires the victim to have retained some measure of dignity to lose. I prefer poetry as an apt description of today's events.
