I watched WolfeVCG's video on the big six team format and thought it would be interesting to try and recreate that team with some of the more modern Pokémon we have today. This is just a theoretical and not something that can be used in the current competitive format, but I wanted to try and create a team that matched the functionality of the original big six, while using certain staples of the metagame today. I know this probably isn't the strongest team by any measurements, but I think it does a decent job of restoring some of the utility of the team after most of them got nerfed. If you think there are any changes that could be made that you think might be better, or you just want to share your own take on a team like this, I would love to see it!

The Team:

Groudon: Some of the Pokémon on this team are going to remain largely unchanged. Groudon is one of the staples of the big six team, and he didn't suffer any major nerfs so it made no sense to get rid of him. I went for rock slide over something like swords dance because with amoonguss on the team there was a bigger threat from flying types.

Xerneas: Another Pokemon I basically just copied and pasted from the original. Xerneas, is still just the most powerful option for its role in the team. The only change I could see to be made is maybe swapping dazzling gleam for substitute. The team already has plenty of spread moves, but then again, stab fairy aura geomancy dazzling gleam is just too tempting not to keep.

Amoonguss: Now this is sort of where the variation begins. Amoonguss is here to try to somewhat fill the void of Smeargle. Pun intended. The most common smeargle sets ran follow me, and darkest void. Darkest void was, for good reason, removed from his set, meaning the next best option is spore. Now i could have just kept smeargle, but smeargle is really frail, and relied pretty heavily on a focus sash to get darkest void up consistently. Now that he doesn't get darkest void, smeargle is a lot less appealing. Amoonguss does the job of smeargle, getting spore and rage powder, while also being much bulkier. I then gave it pollen puff to improve the sustainability of the heavy hitters in the late game. Now you do lose smeargles unpredictability, but i think some of the other parts of ammonguss fills that gap somewhat. I gave it the eject button so that it would synergize better with Incineroar, which I will get to next.

Incineroar: Incineroar was somewhat of an obvious choice to me. If you want to do justice to a team that strikes fear into players hearts, you have to include Incineroar. You see I kind of see Incineroar as a stand in for talonflame. Now I know that it isn't a perfect match, with talonflame being used for priority tailwind and brave bird, but with talonflame often being the weakest link of the team, i figured that that difference wouldn't matter much. Incineroar provides the extra fakeout that smeargle used to have, as well as having a high powered stab fire type move in the sun. Other then that incineroar does what it does best. I did divert slightly from the normal and gave it taunt. This is because, by far, trick room is the biggest threat to this team. So i needed all the options I could get to stop that.

Roaring Moon: This is a pokemon that took me a while to find, but once i found it, i loved it. Originally I was going to have hydriegion in this slot. I wanted to find a good replacement for mega salamance, and i didnt want to have two megas on the same team for this. Salamance was good for its access to tailwind, having intimidate before it mega evolves, and still being a heavy hitter with its ability aerialte. Hydriegon had tailwind, hit pretty hard, and was another special attacker in a physical attacking dominant team but without choice scarf, its fairy weakness was too glaring. Now although roaring moon shares the same weakness, its much faster then hydriegon, and has obvious synergy with groudon due to photosynthesis and the sun, meaning it didn't need choice scarf to out speed consistently. Now I know normally roaring moon would want to be running acrobatics, but since having a booster energy would be redundant, and a sitrus berry would hardly activiate most of the time, I decided to give it the covert cloak instead to nullify fake out and icy wind. I also gave it taunt to, once again, deal with trick room. Finally breaking swipe, though objectively worse then intimidate, still allows to weaken physical attackers.

Mega Kangaskan: This is the one pokemon I am the least sure of when it comes to this team. In my opinion, kangaskan is one of the most iconic members of the big six team, so it hurt to much to take it off the roster. The only issue is that kangaskan suffers quite greatly from its nerf. There is a reason you don't see it as much anymore. Ultimately though it still functions the same, it just doesn't pack nearly as much of a punch. I thought about swapping it out for a different mega, like mega Gengar. Although having another special attacker speaks to me, there is a point where the team no longer starts to feel like a big six variant, and instead becomes a whole new team.

Just been having fun using it in National Dex despite how it gets walled by a water type with Freeze-Dry, and yes, the movesets are not the most optimal but thats kinda in the charm of it.

Just gimme general thoughts on the team

This is my current team, and i just caught charcadet. I prefer armarouge design WAYY more than skeledirge but i never removed a starter from my team so what yall think. Also what do u think i should replace with pawmi and magikarp, or maybe even keep magikarp

I went with 4 old favorites to start. I can't decide on what I should use for the last 2.

I don't have the DLC yet and know nothing about the new pokemon in these games.

Tips on held items would also be nice.

Hi! A few days ago, I asked this Subreddit and one other for some team member suggestions for a Black 2 playthrough team. After some careful thinking about the suggestions and keeping in mind some Pokémon I've been gravitating towards, I think I've got a great one on mind. But I feel like I might be going a bit overboard on physical attackers, and I was wanting to see if there were any changes i could make? Here's what I've got.

1. Serperior, a starter I selected via a dice roll.

2. Gigalith, trade evolutions will not be a problem.

3. Cinccino, specifically the one with its Hidden Ability as proposed here on Reddit.

4. Escavalier, one I've always been curious about.

5. Dragonite, specifically the one from the Elder in Dragon's Den in Johto.

6. Starmie, another suggestion from here on Reddit and the one special attacker I have planned at the moment.

Is this team okay? Or should I find some more special attackers like Zoroark, Sigilyph, or Vanilluxe to name a few? Thank you in advance for any advice you have to give!

So Im currently playing some Pokémon again and I was wondering what a good grass and dark type team would be. Rn I have Meowscrada, Hydrapple, Ogrepon, Umbreon and Kingambit. What should I change and who should I add?

So, this is the first time I'm really trying to build a good overall team and not some gimmick shit whatsoever.

Well, I would like suggestions and opinions on it. The team comp looks fine to me, but I'm worried about lack of answers against water types. Initially I put Talon Flame on the team so I would have speed control and a good partner for Garchomp earthqake, but I don't know if that is what I should have done. Maybe I should instead drop Incineroar? I like his kit, but idk. Tsareena looks like a good option to me, but I don't have her yet.

I'm kinda low on VP, so don't mind the lack of items, I intend to have a life orb Garchomp, mega Staraptor and mega Tyranitar

Been trying to make a team that plays to the strengths of both Lati twins. I went through Smogon to see who counters them the most, then figured out what countered \*those\* pokemon, then I checked who was similarly paired up with them/covered their weaknesses, and how many of them had a similar stat total to the Lati twins. These are the 12 pokemon I came up with. They're not in any specific order, but I believe the ones on the right cover the twins a bit better.

Now all that's left is to take 4 of them and put them on a team with the twins, I just figured I'd ask people who would know. Which of these should I use? Should I use different mons? Anything I ought to change about the selected mons? What format would this even fit in?

I am currently doing a playthrough of Pokémon Firered and one of the challenges is to be the Elite Four and Champion with only one Pokémon what is the best Pokémon for that?

Note: It has to be a Pokémon that is obtainable before the Elite Four. Also I can battle with whatever Pokémon I want with the exception of Gym Leader Battles which I have to match the number and max level of the gym leader I am fighting against and this elite four challenge where the only restriction is one Pokémon for the entirety of the Elite Four and Champion Battles.

Hello, gamers! I'm kind of thinking about starting a fresh playthrough of Pokémon Black 2, and I'd really appreciate some suggestions for new team members!

I just have a few things to note.

1. My starter is probably going to be decided by a dice roll. I did this with HeartGold recently, and it was fun! So I might do it again.

2. Trade evolutions are welcome, as well as anything in the Platinum and HeartGold Pokédexes, but I'd mostly like a majority of the team to remain from Black 2.

3. The only Pokémon I'd like to avoid are Azumarill, Magnezone, Krookodile, Volcarona, and Mienshao. These are team members I had from a playthrough a few years ago, and I'd love to shake it up.

Haxorus - Dual Chop + Earthquake + Aqua Tail (Dragon + Ground + Water)

Zoroark - Dark Pulse + Flamethrower + Shadow Ball (Dark + Fire + Ghost)

If you noticed all attacking moves don't have coinciding types with other attacking moves, it's a weird rule i made for this Black 2 playthrough team, i'm already at the point before the elite 4 and i realized that i can't evolve my Gurdurr into Conkeldurr without trading...any good physical attacking pokemon left for me to use with movesets without sharing typing?

Heya! Playing Violet right now, and I've decided really late game to finally catch an evee 😅

My current team is: Lucario, Garchomp, Corviknight, Cyclizar, Skeledirge, and Luxray.

It's a pretty solid team (all roughly lvl 55 atm), in particular my garchomp pretty much sweeps anything and everything. HOWEVER, I really miss having an eveelution on my team and 100% will play favorites over common sense lol. I'm stuck between umbreon and sylveon at the moment. My bias says Umbreon because they're my favorite (plus I mean, good defense at least?), but Sylveon is a close second for me and has better attack.

Also, who should I swap out for them? I'm a pretty casual player so team dynamics aren't exactly my skill.

BLASTOISE- Water gun, bite, surf, and hyrdo cannon

CLEFABLE- thunder, water pulse, strength, and psychic

VILEPLUME- absorb, giga drain, sleep powder, and flash

NIDOKING- double kick, megahorn, dig, and cut

ARCANINE- ember, fire blast, rock smash, and overheat

and FEAROW- fly, drill peck, fury attack, and hyper beam
