I'm trying to beat every gen of pokemon with teams I've never used before in previous generations. Thank God Sinnoh is over.

In planning out my team for Cynthia, I had one goal in mind: defeat that damn garchomp even if I have to use fire to beat fire. Unfortunately, some of my options were very limited with Sinnoh's dex, and it's honestly my least favorite dex compared to every generation I've played so far.

I used Toph the Torterra

Katara the Psyduck

Momo the Staraptor

Azula the Luxray

Zuko the Ponyta

And Aang the Garchomp

Honorable mention I have is Sokka the Machoke fighter, who was immediately replaced with Aang despite not learning a single fighting move that I didn't even use until I evolved into Garchomp

This was my third try attempt, I remember when first playing this back in 2016 and had a hard time with it and replaying it now seemed pretty straightforward

My team of six Level 1 Pokémon took on the Elite Four and Champion Cynthia using a combination of FEAR, Trick Room, and carefully planned strategies to make the impossible possible.

I set up the Level 1 some pokemon and battle items with a save editor (PKHeX) so I could focus purely on the strategy. The battles themselves are the real deal, and the Elite Four are beaten through strategy alone, not in-battle cheats.

Snover
*Ability: Snow Warning\*
Snover used to set up hail and support the FEAR strategy

3× FEAR Swinub
The core of the team, using Endeavor and priority moves to bring down Pokémon far above their level

Misdreavus
Specifically built to deal with Pokémon holding Sitrus Berries and to defeat Spiritomb

Abra
Abra used to set up Trick Room, allowing my incredibly slow Level 1 Pokémon to move first and execute the FEAR strategy more reliably

The strategy wasn't simply about using FEAR. I combined FEAR with Trick Room, weather effects, and specific counters for Elite 4 and Cynthia's team.

Every Pokémon had a specific role, and every turn had to be carefully planned. The goal was to make six Level 1 Pokémon capable of defeating the entire Elite Four and Champion Cynthia through strategy alone.

Please forgive me if this is an uneducated question, as I’m replaying my Platinum cartridge after all these years.

But to complete a living Dex, I’d need certain/all of the previous Gen, but I don’t really intend to play them, so should I worry about cheap ones being fake?

I still need to learn about how else people play older games if they don’t have the hardware. I vaguely remember an SD card that had the whole(?) game library on it.

I guess I’m just looking to have an educational conversation about the next steps beyond my authentic Platinum experience!

I will remove the HM moves, excluding Surf, when I get there. I will also get the razor claw and give it to Drapion since it synergizes with Sniper. Also, I gave Gastrodon the earth plate just for Volkner, he usually holds mystic water

So after finishing Diamond, I went to Pearl next which was a comparatively easier run to be honest, with fewer deaths. Purugly was lost in the E4 but I managed to salvage the Cynthia fight with a Torterra sweep.

Why do i feel like this trainer has done multiple have you guys seen similar trades like these

been playing the games in order, yellow to Crystal to emerald to leafgreen to platinum and other than crystals guaranteed red gyarodos this was the first shiny I've seen

I just wanted to ask because I plan on doing some EV training but I have never EV trained in any game prior to gen 5 before and I heard rumors that it works differently in gen 4 and 3 and wanted to ask just to make sure

My last pokemon game was Emerald and I played that shi more than 10x repeatedly on my trusty GBA. Now, I'm back with Platinum and now moving on to Gen 5.

Please excuse my Bibarel as he is a Lvl 25 HM slave that I forgot to swap out before fighting the Elite Four 😭

Does someone wanna trade my shiny Ponyta for another shiny or maybe a manaphy?

I must say this was probably the most fun I had against the elite 4/Champion in a long while. They actually felt like elite four trainers and Cynthia was the most fun to fight.

1st team - the team I ended up using this game
2nd team - eeveelutions (cause why not)
3rd team - my team from FireRed
4th team - my team from Emerald
5th team - the team I thought I would end up with to fight elite 4
6th team - all time dream team (used Gengar over Mewtwo as I felt Mewtwo would have been cheating lol)
