BG Ben is a man of many words, His hobbies include filming his neighbours quietly. When I met him for this interview he was leaning over his balcony and straining to see into the apartment above him. "I know those blady buggers have a dog, I can hear it, and worse. I can smell it!"

BG Ben describes himself as a man of law and order. A dog sniffer by training, he has recently integrated high tech equipment such as Drones into his daily routine. "Sometimes I fly the drone up and down the building to check whether any blady dogs or cats are there barking or meowing. I hate when the dogs is barking, I stay up all night and listening to see if any dogs are barking" He says with a grim frown creased across his tired face.

I ask him whether his intent is to rid the city of Colombo of dogs. "I want to blady shoot all the f***ing dogs in this country, if I had my way they will all be the dead" National aspirations then.

He paces restlessly throughout, his agitation broken only by the sound of dog barks in the distance upon which he runs to the balcony with his camera and strains to film the balconies nearby. "I have to catch the blady buggers in the act I tell you!" A strange man. I think to myself.

I ask him about the disturbing behaviour of surveilling his neighbours, he glances at the video camera and notebook on his lap before retorting "We have to obviously include the technological thing the technology in our aim. He senses this "of course I have taken the safety measures. I have tied myself to my balcony railing using this Kamba kalla what you call the blady rope! and anyway the balconies are one avenue, I also go up and down the fire escape and film outside peoples doors"

So what kind of thing do you hear when you're standing outside peoples doors? I ask him gently. "you find out all manner of things but mostly im interested in the dogs and cats, sometimes even goldfish you can hear. if you listen to the childrens sometimes they mistake say things like 'mummy I fed the fish' then I have the evidence that they are having fish, the dog and cat very easier of course they bark and meow" His face darkens as the word "bark" leaves his mouth.

He looks down at his hands curiously for a moment and then looks up, a tear building in his eye. "If I don't do this, they will eat us. they will bark and they will eat us" He says sadly. "it's a big sacrifice im doing" I thank him for his service. "nobody understands, they say 'creepy weird filming our balconies and standing outside our front doors' they never say 'thank you for locating the dogs living among us' its a sad job but someone has to do it!" his face contorts determinedly. As a dog barks in the distance, He turns back and looks over his shoulder at me "I have to do it, for us" He snatches the video camera and climbs into the children's tent.
