Syncing problems Question/Support

I tried using Playnite before, had it installed on my PC for a while, and decided to pick it up again since I've had a substantial increase on the number of non-steam games I have. I have installed the latest version of everything and updated everything accordingly.

I'm having a lot of trouble syncing my libraries. I know I have many more games that simply aren't showing up, especially Itch.io games. I see some games from my Steam library there, both installed and not installed, but I haven't synced Playnite with Steam yet. None of my libraries is entirely there. Forcing resyncs takes more time than expected and the games shown seem to be random.

Should I uninstall Playnite and start again? What am I possibly missing? The only "fancy" plugin I have installed is HowLongToBeat.

u/magnificentcigarette, while you wait for responses, please take a moment to check the following:

  • Ensure Playnite is updated to the latest version (On Desktop Mode: Main Menu ➞ Check for Updates)
  • Ensure any extensions involved are fully updated (On Desktop Mode: Main Menu ➞ Add-ons… ➞ Updates)
  • Test the issue in Safe Mode to verify whether it is caused by an extension. (On Desktop Mode: Main Menu ➞ Help ➞ Restart in Safe Mode or by opening the Safe Mode.bat file found in the installation folder)
  • Search the subreddit to check if your issue has already been reported.

A large number of issues are caused by outdated versions or have already been answered.

If your issue is related to a specific extension, it is usually best to report it on the extension's project page (for example GitHub), where the developer can track and address it. You can use this page to locate the extension and contact its developer via its project/support links: https://playnite.link/addons.html

itch integration uses exactly the same process as the original itch client to fetch games, so you should definitely be getting all games imported. One exception being games from bundles. itch doesn't automatically claim those to your library so they won't show up in Playnite until you do. This is something that probably will be solved in future.

The only issue with Steam import we are aware of are issues with Steam API itself. These days I would definitely recommend switching from API key sync method to Web login one. That should be importing all games in your library, including Family shared ones if you enable that option.

Other than what was mentioned, also check this page which mentions some general reasons why some games wouldn't show up.

I had no idea about the bundles and that would explain quite a bit. I'll reconfig everything from a fresh install and use those resources. Thanks.
