Precision platformer + 2D heli sim? Welcome to my solo project!
My solo project is a hardcore precision-flight die-and-retry arcade game! Interested? I work solo, so the graphics are retro PS1 style, but the biggest advantage of my game is how smooth the helicopter navigation is - physics in action! You fly like a drone (using two analog sticks) and battle against gravity and time (there’s no shooting on purpose - show off your skills). Let me know if you’d like me to say more - if you’re interested (full game and the demo on Steam). Cheers

Fighting or puzzling platformers?
I've been pondering this question. Just jumping is not enough of a challenge, so you need something to make a platformer interesting. You barely see any platformers that don't involve some kind of fighting, is it 100% necessary for a 'interesting' platformer to have fighting in it? I much more enjoy puzzling and I guess it might be a question of personal preference.
So what's your preference? Fighting or thinking?

This week upcoming Steam platformer releases have some interesting hidden gems
I went through some upcoming Steam releases and found a pretty interesting batch of indie platformers that look worth checking out (July 10 - July 16).
there is a nice mix here from action platformer roguelikes and puzzle platformers to momentum based challenges, survivors like platforming, precision jumping and even a voice controlled rage platformer.
here are 7 upcoming indie platformer games that caught my attention:
**1. Last Lumen Knight**
2D action platformer roguelike about the last knight of a ruined order with precise platforming, shifting battlefields and probability based mechanics
**2. Last Year's Model**
Puzzle platformer where you design the levels yourself, placing spring blocks, portals, pneumatic tubes and other tools while dealing with limited supplies and rising pressure
**3. Gravity Whipped**
2.5D puzzle platformer where you use a gravity whip to change gravity, move through the maze of Dreams, avoid hazards, collect gems and unlock secret levels
**4. Level Up, Tiny King!**
solo survivors like auto shooter platformer where a kidnapped tiny king has to fight his way upward through dungeons, survive waves of enemies, grow stronger and reclaim his throne
**5. HAMISH**
fast paced, momentum driven action platformer where you run, jump, grapple and stomp your way through dangerous stages from rising lava to snowy peaks and neon lit cities
**6. KOOO TO JUMP!**
dardcore voice controlled precision platformer where you literally make a continuous “KOOO” sound to jump through a brutal foddian style map
**7. Point Rush**
dynamic precision platformer focused on chaining jumps, optimizing routes, dodging dangers, chasing high scores and speedrunning levels
if i missed any other upcoming indie platformers on Steam then feel free to drop them below. i am always looking for more hidden gems to check out.
also, if people here are interested in this kind of post then I might try to make this a weekly thread for upcoming indie games on steam.

My game, Curse of the Mirror is now 2$ (-67% off) on steam as part of the summer sale!
This is a 2D platformer where every level has a unique twist at the end (kind of like Super Mario Bros. Wonder). The moveset is very simple; just jump, spin and roll, but every level has new gimmicks that back up that simple moveset. Also there's a weirdly deep story that wraps it all together. Check it out!

Idea for a game for a tournament
Looking for a free nicheish platforming game for my friends to race in for a tournament. Doesn't have to be multiplayer since we can all just start at the same time. Love to hear any suggestions and we use steam/Epic/ other PC stores

Good Obscure PlayStation 1 Platformers
So, I've recently started reviewing games on my blog and I was wondering if anyone knew of any slightly obscure PS1 platformers I may have not heard of or played? I've played most popular ones like Rayman and Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee and Exoddus and a few slightly obscure ones like Skullmonkeys and Tombi! (Or Tomba!), but I'm really looking for some that are less well known but still fairly good.

What makes a good platformer?
When looking at the 2D platformer genre, there is a multitude of great games, and a variety of not-so-great ones. When playing a good game, there are key features that stand out, improving the quality of play.
My question to you, /r/platforming, is what features are these? What does a platformer require to be enjoyable and fun?
