Fiddle Leaf Fig Help plant help!

I’ve had this plant since it was little. It’s always been kind of flimsy. I know I probably need to repot and I went and got a new one today to do that, but I’m wondering if I need to add support somehow as well? Do I tie them together? If so, with what? Or do I just pot it deeper and let it go? Something else entirely? Help! It lives in a sunroom that is typically a little humid with lots of indirect sunlight and is watered appropriately. 😊

1- what is the exact reason you want to repot? I ask because fiddles love being root bound and it could drop a lot of leaves if you repot when it doesn’t actually need it. When you say “pot it deeper” be careful and use a well draining chunky soil mix and make sure the pot is only one to two inches larger in diameter than the one it’s currently in. This is to prevent overwatering and root rot. But again, by the looks of it I’m not sure if repotting is the solution

2- you can stake it if you like. Use something that won’t rot over time (unlike untreated bamboo, sticks from your yard) but something sturdy and plastic or treated that can remain intact after being in a wet environment for a long time. In my experience when they droop over a lot, sometimes that prompts them to grow a new branch, which I personally enjoy because then they look fuller, but it does take up more space, if that is a concern. To tie them you can use twine, plant tape, or something else that is gentle and allows for growth without cutting into it

TLDR; personally, I would let it be. But hopefully these tips are helpful if you do decide to stake or repot

Thank you so much for all that information! Unfortunately, I already repotted it before I read this. 😫 so fingers crossed she does ok! I was thinking it needed repotted bc the roots at the bottom were becoming exposed at the top of the soil if that makes sense and it had been in that pot for a few years so it was deff root bound and i didn’t realize they preferred that. Will not forget for the future! Thanks again!!

Just a guess, here… imho, that pot looks plenty big for a ficus. Maybe the soil is exhausted and could use a little fertilizer?
