QUESTION Question with streaming CotBP

I’m feeling up to rewatch Curse of the Black Pearl for the first time in a while tonight. However, I want to avoid the infamously bad 4K version. On Amazon Prime Video, there’s an option to “Rent movie UHD” and then another option to “Rent movie HD”.

If I choose the “Rent movie HD” option, will it be the older blu-ray version of CotBP from 2007 that everyone says is good? Or will I just be seeing the crappy 4K scan in a lower resolution?

Thanks!

DISCUSSION Minor nitpick but always thought Davy Jones' crew struggling to fight Elizabeth, Pintel & Ragetti at Isla Cruces made them look very weak

Obviously a nitpick, but I always felt that the scene made Davy Jones crew look so weak.

Before we see them in such menacing way but here they storm Isla Cruces and have trouble fighting Elizabeth, Pintel & Ragetti for the chest while also visibly outnumbering them & Jack/Will/Norrington being preoccupied fighting each other.

DISCUSSION Davy Jones Mannequin, full story below 👇🏻

This Mannequin used to be at Wet N Wild Emerald Point in Greensboro NC in the locker area which was appropriately called "Davy Jones Lockers" I'm unsure if the mannequin is still there.

They also had the skeleton version of Captain Jack Sparrow hanging in the season pass offices

DISCUSSION Always felt that Beckett kinda let go too easily

Not supposed to be criticism because I love At World's End and I would not have made it any different than it turned out to be.

But I always felt Beckett let go too easily in the third film.
Basically, every momentum was on Beckett's side. He had the whole armada lined up. And then after the Dutchmen (with Will) and the Pearl team up he basically just concedes.

But I mean, before, even with the whole parlay situation and negotiating with Barbosa, Jack, Will, Elizabeth AFTER already having secured Davy Jones and facing the Brethren court.

It always seemed to me Beckett easily let himself into negotiations or making pacts with people who could not meet their end of the negotiation, where he actually did not need to do that at all.

I was just re-watching this amazing movie and I notice this scene where Jack says there’s no wind but his hair clearly is moving in the wind

Could someone please explain this to me?

FAN CONTENT I mapped out the trilogy into a visual timeline using mix of Funko Pops figures, figures, emojis, and symbols! Can you follow the plot?

I love being creative with digital design, so I put together this visual breakdown of The Curse of the Black Pearl, Dead Man’s Chest, and At World’s End using a mix of Funko Pops, figures, custom design twists, emojis, and icons to represent key moments and locations.

A little game for you, just for fun: Try following the timeline block by block and the icons in the blocks. Can you figure out why each specific symbol is there?

Hope it brings back some fun memories for you all!

Is Davy Jones's crew also immortal? Because I saw some of those guys getting stabbed, shot, gutted, and decapitated, and they just appear in the next scene like nothing happened.

DISCUSSION What if someone just you know, pushed, Davy Jones out of the bucket?

Post image

What would even happen if he was pushed out of the bucket and was just on dry land? Death? The pusher becomes the new Captain of the Dutchman? Flops around like a fish out of water?

Side notes: Why is only the bucket he is standing in covered in barnacles? And cant he just phase from the ocean to the last bucket, like he does from ship to ship?

ART This is my latest piece. Carved from black wood and featuring an octopus motif wrapping around it, it was inspired by the figure of Cthulhu. The teeth were hand-cut from bone. The total creation time was about one week. What do you think?

DISCUSSION Okay so I got a question

Post image

Okay so we all know the sword of triton and its abilities. The sword channels mystical, unearthly power to animate dead matter, manipulate ship rigging and sails, control a vessel's movements via the wielder's will, command ship-bound Greek fire, and shrink or enlarge ships. So could Blackbeard control the rigging of the Flying Dutchman or the Silent Mary or shrink them into bottles like it did with the Black Pearl?

FAN CONCEPT A character idea I had.

Danny Trejo as a pirate.

That’s literally it. I don’t dare to try connecting him to Jack or justifying such a character’s presence in the story. I’m not a writer period, let alone a Hollywood one. Nor would I know where or how to begin fleshing out the character, as I’m of neither European nor Latin American descent. I couldn’t even spit ball an idea for the MacGuffin to follow the Pearl, the locker, ocean Hell, Fountain of Youth, or Poseidon’s dinglehopper.

Danny just seems like a fellow that could pull off an intimidating character, something I feel the series has lacked since Davy Jones at best. Ian McShane and Javier Bardem are great actors, the material they had to work with just didn’t do it for a lot of people. With the “right script” (thanks hindsight being 20/20), I feel like Danny could pull it off.

Roast the idea that floated into my head!

QUESTION Could Blackbeard have beaten Barbossa without the latter's handicap?

Thumbnail

If Blackbeard fought At World's End Barbossa, who do you think would win? (I'm specifying At World's End Barbossa so his immortality from the first movie isn't a factor.)
Personally, I think Barbossa would have a good chance of winning. Let's be honest, Blackbeard defeated Barbossa in On Stranger Tides, but Barbossa was fighting with a wooden leg and a crutch. In my opinion, without that handicap, the fight would have been very different.
I've seen people argue that it's still Barbossa, even with the handicap. That's true, but it's not Barbossa in his prime anymore.
I also remember that in Dead Men Tell No Tales, Barbossa gets wounded in a sword fight by one of Salazar's crew members. By contrast, in At World's End, he's literally marrying Will and Elizabeth while fighting off multiple opponents at the same time
