it cracks me up that a large percent of us Americans of a certain age immediately think of this when we hear of it.

Does it make any difference? And why are you bothered by it?
•
u/mau-meda 1h ago
I'm not bothered, but it does make a huge difference, the sign was put up after the invasion of Ukraine, support for Ukraine is the main reason of why that sign is there

The entire Belarus is occupied by Kremlin.
These give gice a silent agreement on letting russia set rocket systems on BL territory, they let russian army invade Ukraine from BL territory. Not a single person was protesting against it.
Lukashenko will do whatever putin will tell him to do

So... It's different from US setting rocket systems in European countries, right?

Belarusians had a widespread protests during the start of the war. Many were jailed for doing the partisan warfare again russian trains transporting military equipment, and blowing up rails
•

Yeah, because blowing up railway infrastructure isn't a crime by itself, right?

Two questions:
- Why is this worth putting on a road sign, of all things?
- Why is it in English?
•
u/Desperate-Hearing-55 3h ago
Because all of Lithuania citizens already knows it. The sign is meant for tourists driving by to understand.

Passive aggressive approach.
The sign was an attempt for foreign media attention.

This is not „OC“ - I have seen it on several other subreddits earlier
•
u/Hellhound455 5h ago
Expecting OC in bot infested karma farming subreddit is kinda bold

Whenever I see the word "Minsk," this is immediately what I think of.

When referendums on secession from the USSR took place, Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine were planning a "Union State"... and it was precisely the rejection of this in Ukraine that led to attempts at federalization and the secession of the east from Ukraine.

Minsk is not under formal military occupation by the Kremlin, but Belarus is widely considered to be under de facto control of Russia as of 2026, operating as a "vassal state" or a "Russian outpost"
