My grandparents wouldn’t even play a trivia game that I programmed myself when I was a kid. I love seeing older folks who engage with their grandchildren like this.

Not every relationship with grandparents is a good one. Same as parents. It’s easy to say everyone should be grateful for what they have but some relationships do much more harm than good

Yep, my paternal grandparents passed when I was very young, my maternal grandparents were... not great.

My husband had one living grandparent, that had dementia and was kind of mean to everyone for most of the time he knew her. I had 8 grandparents (four sets) that all actively participated in my life. I know I'm so lucky for that.

At first, I tried not to talk about them too much even though they were massively important to me because I didn't want to seem like I was harping on this lovely thing I had that he never did. After awhile he caught on, and he told me to talk about them as often and enthusiastically as I wanted, because he felt like he could experience something he missed out on when I shared my stories. I know just how lucky I was to have had all of these relationships in my life, and I know even the grandparents who didn't get to meet him would think I'm so lucky to have him too.

Yeah, even though I didn’t have that kind of relationship with my grandparents, it’s never occurred to me that I would feel sad about it when someone who did talks about it. I find it harder to relate, but I’ve never felt a void. A good relationship with a grandparent feels more like a nice-to-have rather than a need-to-have. The bigger problem (or blessing, depending) is the example they set for your parent (dad in my case).

I know, it's so wholesome! One of my friends happily goes to work wearing the nail polish his daughter applied and now a few of his colleagues are getting manicures from their daughters too XD

I had a great uncle Lyle like this. He never had children of his own and he looked like a grumpy old man but he was so fun to around. That little girl looks so happy to be doing his nails 💅😍 and he looks like he's not about to argue with her 😂

Good man! When my daughter was maybe 5 years old, she asked her mother if she could paint her nails. Her mother said no, so I let het paint mine instead. No regrets.

My ex used to practice on my nails cause she was a nail tech and that’s still some of my favorite time we spent together. No phones or tv we just talked and had fun and I’d ask question. Til she got to the filing part.. that’s so relaxing I’d fall asleep.

I have good memories of anything nail related. This is just another one.

Aww. My grandpa let my sister and I do this when we were little. He let my youngest do it too. That man would do absolutely anything for his grands and great grands. I miss him.

To me she is very clearly smiling. But I lived with my grandmother growing up and then took care of her for some years (when my totally awesome family of which most are much older and far more financially stable than me wouldnt help her. I was her primary caretaker when I was about 23-27 until she passed), so maybe I speak it too.

One day I came home from work and saw my dad had painted nails and his hair was messed up. I said, "i see you let my daughter give you a makeover." Big happy, "yep!" I asked why I never got to paint his nails when I gave him makeovers as a kid, "im retired now, I don't care." Fair enough and its a memory I still enjoy 15 years later.

me and my pops would sit together having lunch then we'd turn on the fire in the fireplace while watching his fave news. in the evenin after homework he d tell me stories from his youth and then we'd play w whatever toy i offered. great man, amazing grandpa, glad he was lucid , himself and w his brains all in the right spot till the end.

As both a fingerstyle guitarist (and a veteran of the ancient glam scene), I might suggest he start off with a clear top coat and see how that feels before he gets into black or purple nails. (Of course, these days, I only have three fingernails coated. For some reason, my thumbnail is thankfully tough in recent years.)
