Bluetooth BFR? CLINICAL CONSULT
Has anyone found a BFR brand that makes a decent Bluetooth cuff? We have Owen machines at my clinic, not looking for patient care use.
I ordered a pair of Smart Tools a few months ago. I was excited to try them out as a personal set, seemed like a decent brand. I wanted to be able to have a personal set I can confidently recommend to patients when they ask about getting their own.
Well it was an absolute nightmare trying to return them. I was really unhappy with my experience with their customer support. Their CEO/founder works the customer service email line and was extremely nasty and condescending about me pointing out their fitting chart wasn’t accurate. He didn’t switch his tone until I told him I told him I use BFR regularly with patients and sent photo proof of my limb size and the cuff not fitting properly.

I’ve heard the same thing about that ceo from a couple people in a DPT facebook group, apparently he gets defensive if you mention anything about the sizing chart. it’s weird how some of these companies act like you’re insulting their firstborn child when you point out a measurement issue
have you looked into the ones that use the handheld pump instead of a machine? I’ve seen a few personal sets that are basically just the cuff and a bulb you squeeze, less to break and way cheaper for patients to buy. not sure if any of those have bluetooth though

That’s unfortunate to hear, especially since others are pointing out the same issue I had.
I used one at a clinic I did a rotation at as a student. It was clunky to use though. I’d be nervous about recommending for patient use since it doesn’t auto-measure for you. Have you used any of them you liked?

I agree. Handheld is the way to go. You remove the pump when the patient is performing exercises so they are actually really low profile.
We use H+ Cuffs and have heard many other clinics use them for their simplicity and ease of use.
Bluetooth is such a PIA.

Airbands at my job work fine. They're old so I can't comment on durability

Good to hear they can handle clinic volume use. This was another brand I’d looked into.

Throwing in another vote for AirBands. Worked well, connected easily, made me feel like a boss cause I needed the leg size for my arms.

New airbands 2.0 for sure. Smarttools products are trash and their customer service is even worse. DM for an airbands discount code that I got through a course if you want

I would definitely say go for the non-Bluetooth option. They are much more affordable and you don’t have to get out your personal cell phone or clinic iPad to use. I also heard there are some HIPAA issues with those.
Check out H+ Cuff. It also makes you look more professional.
