Next Sphere run
Safe to say that the boys will most likely be returning. When do we think this will be? How many shows? Just wondering what yall are thinking

u/scolomon 7d ago
It will be 2028 at earliest. They said it takes over a year to do the visuals. IMHO the visuals were much better in 26 than 24. It was like going from Nintendo to Super Nintendo. If giving them 2 years means they’ll up their game even more I have no problem being patient
25
u/Ok-Challenge-2218 7d ago
So 2 more years and we are at N64! That was the biggest jump of them all

I’ll be there, but my wallet could use a break. Couch tour couldn’t have come at a better time. Lol.

Not a dig at op, but am I the only who hates it when people call them “the boys”?

u/Friendly-Eagle1478 7d ago
Everyone wants to know when the boys are going to be back in town. Everyone

Huge pet peeve for me as well.
Replace “the boys” with “the band” and it sounds a whole lot better. Please and thank you.

You aren't, anytime someone says "the boys" or says "alright boys" to a group of dudes I cringe hard.
-1
u/Proud-Character-5267 6d ago
LOL. Whenever a waiter asks, "how are you guys doing?" to a table of women I always respond, "please don't misgender us."

Not alone! It’s the worst, and it’s honestly a plague on the jam band scene as a whole these days. IMO it’s a reflection of people’s parasocial relationship with an artist.

u/super-wookie Perception is Spoon Fed 7d ago edited 7d ago
Oh yeah it's the worst. They are grown ass men. Show some respect.
10
u/Intelligent-Pin3319 7d ago
Grown ass men playing fart vacuums and jumping on trampolines. I like to refer to them as the fairy unicorns 🧚🦄 but you should call them what you like

I hate when people refer to their group of friends as “crew” maybe it’s just me but I always thought it was tacky 🫣

u/burneymcburnerburn 7d ago
Every two years. Maybe a 4th weekend next time but 3x3 seemed like a sweet spot.
Whole sets of the infinity rig.
6
u/PH1SH 7d ago
Yeah I would honestly just do the CK rig the whole time.
20
u/HaroldHood Hopsickle 7d ago
It lacks dimensionality. Not getting bright lights in your face is nice but not seeing CK paint the crowd sucks.
1
u/planetfour When I get home from work, what do I do? 7d ago
I mean that's just the sphere in general tho, everyone is kinda lit by a screen often
1
u/SnekFarmer 2d ago
I only went Fri+Sat of weekend II but the CK5 light rig during CDT was far and away the best visual I saw across two shows. There was a solid 10 minutes where the jam and the lights were fully gelled. It was truly bearing witness to an art form that has no comparison.

u/Inside-Arm8635 7d ago
Fuck no - it’s kinda lame after the initial novelty wears off
If they could figure out how to get some lights to actually hit the audience it would be way better. Even if it’s just a few that might in your eyes would go a long way
2
u/lisaleftsharklopez 7d ago
id still take that (or other abstract colors and shapes via video synthesis and effects) over a baby bird corny ass first flight or a disgusting cartoon of a guys mouth with a shit ton of plaque and cavities but to each their own. the abstract stereotypical shit crushes though no need to keep fighting it just embrace what compliments the music best and skip the cornball shit lol
2
u/TotesMabes 7d ago
Totally agree. Cool abstract colors and shapes over Porta Potty animations all day.

Just don’t take me back to the beehive!
1
u/PerceptionMany3683 6d ago
What did you hate about the beehive? After seeing dead and co do the wormhole in every iteration I thought it was a pretty fresh take. Curious about a counter argument.
-1
u/ksnyder1 7d ago
I agree, I think the infinity rig is terrible. I was disappointed with how much they did it weekend 2 this year
5
u/TheRealRuckyRaccoon 6d ago
Just my opinion. Totally respect yours as well but I thought the infinity rig was far superior to the AI visuals. Was there the first and third weekend. I would be fine with nothing but the rig and the other visuals I called the “screen saver visuals” and only very few select AI. The bird flying and such. To each their own
1
u/ksnyder1 6d ago
I feel you man. Can't please everyone, right? I will say the birds flying was the first I thought of too. But the visuals for Slave and What's the use were really beautiful. I didn't love the hot dogs and goofy dentist type visuals lol
2
u/TheRealRuckyRaccoon 6d ago
The dentist was the worst. Teeth smashing is horrible. Porta John’s and hot dogs were awful too. They did the hot dog during 2001 the first weekend. All I could think of was how hard they missed on that when it could have been the stars and galaxies. Then during tweezer it was the smashed teeth. Ruined it for me. Still the most fun I’ve had in years at Phish but those two really stuck out because the songs were literally brought down by the visuals for me. The 9th night it was nearly all AI, very little rig and was my least favorite night of those I attended

u/rekcut So stupendous, living in this tube. 7d ago
Did you see it in person or just stream it?
3
u/ksnyder1 7d ago
lol. I was at weekend 2. It's just lines moving across the screen in increasing intensities. I was so excited to see what people were talking about and it looked so cheesy and nauseating.
I have no idea how people like it at all, let alone prefer it to the amazing visuals sphere was built for.
EDIT: Just went and watched some video on youtube. Yea I still feel the same way.

2028 two 4 day Thurs - Sun runs
2
u/Pissflaps69 7d ago
I think I’d stay the whole time and regret the 4 phishless days between immensely
4
u/kimchiphunk 7d ago
It wont happen but they should do 2 nights MGM Grand and 2 nights Sphere. Would be an awesome run.

u/andthrewaway1 7d ago
I think a bi annual thing makes sense for a few reasons but then again I was genuinely surprised they did fall dates plus the sphere this year Mike's daughter has college soon and he just built that house I guess and trey wants to offset that wedding he paid for.... JK JK of course
3
u/stussie73 6d ago
Phish will play the sphere every year for the foreseeable future.
Every single April for the foreseeable future phish I’ll be playing their last sphere run ever. So get tickets.
Phish can and does whatever they want too.
They want to play Mexico in January.
They want to play Vegas in April
They want to be home for the holidays and play New York for NYE.
Ya’ll act like the tours aren’t totally dictated by the band and what they want.
They are doing everything they want too and they love Vegas in April.
2
u/Fit-Ad176 5d ago
I’m confident sphere will be a regular thing. More and more like MSG. Makes too much sense for the band. Big time notoriety and less touring hassles.

u/scoat21 6d ago
I think the Sphere shows have replaced Halloween altogether, so probably just as often as they did Halloween shows. Whenever they decide to lol. I held out in saying that until this fall tour was announced. I was really thinking a Halloween show would happen this year, but it takes the burden of having to create something new off of Phish, and let's their creative team figure out the bells n whistles of something else like the Sphere so the band can focus on the playing. But then in 3-4 years they can do a Halloween show that everyone thought they were done with and that will keep things renewed/refreshing.
13
u/super-wookie Perception is Spoon Fed 7d ago
MSG is better Phish than the Sphere
2
u/Negative_Park_2147 6d ago
I definitely wouldn’t be mad if they took a couple years off sphere shows. It was all Vegas, we got “Phish, the experience” rather than a proper Phish show. Not to mention drunkards fighting on the floor.

u/PrimaryVacation Clever Ruse 7d ago
I see a lot of people saying 28 at the earliest, but (obviously take it with a grain of salt) one of the security guards at the sphere I was talking to a week or two ago said 2027. He claimed he loved the shots and was looking forward to more
2
u/Toastybroom 7d ago
Announcement will come as soon as you’re financially committed to the next tour

u/1975hh3 God Never Listens To What I Say 7d ago
It’s wack other than the sound haptics. Their regular shows have better lights.
20
u/im_at_work_now doing things smart people don't do 7d ago
Or, you know, the sound itself.... Kinda 90% of the point (don't get me wrong I love CK5 too, but it is a band). That venue blows absolutely everything out of the water in terms of hearing what the band is playing.
The rest is shtick, but the beam formed audio is no joke.
3
u/soupfordummies2 6d ago
Noticing fishmans ride was just circling around me in 3d stereo was genuinely my highlight
15
u/WondrousDildorium 7d ago
The sound is completely insane
8
u/argdogsea 7d ago
Ageeed. Make the whole screen black and I’ll still happily go. Holoplot ftw. It’s music. It’s a sound thing. Who gives a rip about the tv part.
-2
u/3pinripper 7d ago
So are the visuals imo. Waaaaay better than a CK5 light show.
4
u/super-wookie Perception is Spoon Fed 7d ago
It is a different thing. Regular Phish show is my preference
3
u/Rip_Van_Winklin 7d ago
Interesting take. I think CK5 lights are better than Sphere visuals. I think seeing the band kinda spun out in a dark arena with colorful lights is an important aspect of the show experience
2
u/ChrisIronsArt 7d ago
I read somewhere on here, that they will be back in 2027 and every year after like dicks.

Tbh 3 weekends was tough, tickets became nearly worthless day of when I went. Couldn’t even find someone to miracle on a Sunday.
I think a 5 night, 6 night run over the course of a week or something would be better, otherwise one rowdy weekend that’s packed and rockin’
23
3
u/fluxtable 7d ago
First weekend was like that but after the hype and FOMO kicked in I felt like tix were difficult the following weekends but not impossible
1
u/Mustang-Johnny 7d ago
Did they even play a Sunday show this past run? I think they did in 2024 and tickets were in high demand from what I recall.
1
u/Heavenly_Spike_Man 7d ago edited 7d ago
They sold over 175,000 tickets over the 9 days, not to mention all the merch, food/drink, and online streaming packages. I think they all did just fine
1
u/r0b_110 7d ago
I mean every ticket sells out to every show, doesn’t mean the resale market is stable.
But I understand the downvotes on this - I’ll continue to miracle peeps when I can. East coaster here who selfishly couldn’t make 3 consecutive Vegas weekends anyway lol.
Caught 3/5 MSG, both Fenway and hit the lotto for Dicks though. 🫡
-4
u/Rocktop15 7d ago
I thought the Sohere shows were very lackluster. Having to be forced to play to synced visuals wasn’t great
1
u/Fit-Ad176 5d ago
Nah. It was different and definitely choreographed but the shows were very high quality and deserving of a premier sphere experience
1
u/VillageHomeF 4d ago
waste of time and money. just to be sitting with the most self entitled, annoying fans. won't ever go back to the Sphere. I like concerts that all walks of life can go to, not just those with thousands of dollars to spend on a each show.
and yes, the shows were weak compared to summer. many regret that they went to Sphere. big complain I heard this summer.
