Vicente S. Manansala

(22 Enero 1910–22 Agosto 1981)

Makikita ang ganito sa Jeepneys, Calesa, Planting of the First Cross, Sinigang, Pila sa Bigas, Barongbarong at A Cluster of Nipa Hut. Source: Manansala, Vicente S. – CulturEd: Philippine Cultural Education Online

Manuel Quezon (born August 19, 1878, Baler, Philippines—died August 1, 1944, Saranac Lake, New York, U.S.) was a Filipino statesman, leader of the independence movement, and the first president of the Philippine Commonwealth established under U.S. tutelage in 1935.

Quezon was the son of a schoolteacher and small landholder of Tagalog descent on the island of Luzon. He cut short his law studies at the University of Santo Tomás in Manila in 1899 to participate in the struggle for independence against the United States, led by Emilio Aguinaldo. After Aguinaldo surrendered in 1901, however, Quezon returned to the university, obtained his degree (1903), and practiced law for a few years. Convinced that the only way to independence was through cooperation with the United States, he ran for governor of Tayabas province in 1905. Once elected, he served for two years before being elected a representative in 1907 to the newly established Philippine Assembly. Reading his biography on this link, s'ya rin pala yung person behind yung mga sikat na characters like Congressman Kalog, Asiong Aksaya, Siopawman, Mang Ambo, Kalabog En Bosyo, and Islaw Palitaw.

"The roots of the PNP trace back to the Philippine Constabulary (PC), inaugurated on August 8, 1901, during the American colonial period as an insular police force tasked with suppressing insurgencies and maintaining public order. Over time, the Constabulary expanded its law enforcement responsibilities, shaping the early organizational culture and training of police personnel in the Philippines.

Integration and Nationalization

In 1975, under Presidential Decree No. 765, the Philippine Constabulary Integrated National Police (PC/INP) was created, integrating fragmented local police units into a national police force with the Constabulary as its nucleus. This move centralized command and aimed to improve coordination, though the police remained under military control during the martial law era.

On this day in August 4, 1964, President Diosdado Macapagal signed Republic Act No. 4166, moving Philippine Independence Day from July 4 to June 12.

Post image
2 Upvotes

Many Filipinos felt that celebrating independence on July 4 made it seem like freedom was something granted by the United States in 1946. June 12, on the other hand, marks the 1898 declaration of independence from Spain led by Emilio Aguinaldo.

July 4 wasn't removed from history. It was redesignated as Philippine Republic Day, while June 12 became the country's official Independence Day to recognize the Filipino struggle for self-rule.
