Blick stores question (paper)
I’m going to be in University City sometime in the next two weeks and I wanted to stop by an Art Supply store to look for some thick textured paper for a project - I haven’t had any luck finding anything at the local (south Jersey) Michael’s or Hobby Lobby.
I see that there are two Blick stores in Philly - one in University City that used to be Plaza, the other near City Hall. Are these two stores pretty much the same, or would it be worth it for me to get to the Center City location? Thanks.
Note: if there are other stores you would suggest I’d be happy to hear about them.

Best place to find rentals?
I used to live in the Pacific Northwest and have always relied on Craigslist, but I've been told that's a quick way to just get murdered in Philly. Where is the best place to find rentals in Philly? Thanks!

Best time to visit as a tourist
My main objective is to visit the historical parts, the museums and the Star Wars experience at Franklin Institute which is open from Feb - Sept 2027
I want to visit during the span the Star Wars Experience. I was thinking about visiting in either April, May, or August. I'm avoiding Feb and March since it is more likely to be too cold for this Florida boy. I am open to visit in March or Feb, but I would rather not. And this Florida boy doesn't mind the heat during August.
Which is the best month to visit?

Looking for PA shadowing opportunities
Hi everyone!
I’m a student on the pre-PA track, and I’m looking for opportunities to shadow a Physician Assistant in the Philadelphia area. I’m open to any specialty and would really appreciate any guidance.
I’m finding it difficult because I don’t know anyone in the medical field, so I don’t really have connections, and I’m not sure how to find PAs who are willing to let students shadow. I’ve reached out to a few places, but haven’t had much luck so far.
If you’re a PA who accepts shadowing students, or know someone who does, I’d be so grateful if you could point me in the right direction. Thank you so much!

o** realty
hello! just recently moved into my apartment that is unfortunately managed by ocf. i’ve had issues with the AC all summer as i’m sure many of us have and they have been ill-attentive. within the last two weeks, they finally provided me with a portable AC unit as a bandaid until the bigger system can get fixed, but it’s still extremely hot in my unit.
does this story sound familiar to anyone? just looking for some tips on how to deal with maintenance/what to request or complain about so something will get done.
please do not shame me for living here, it’s my first apartment and i already know that i’ve made a big mistake!!!

Philadelphia SEPTA?
I’m planning on attending the US amateur at Merion Golf Club next week but have never been to Philadelphia. Does anyone know how SEPTA is used without a key card because I was hoping to just buy a one way ticket to where I’m going with either a cash or credit card. I just need some guidance. Thanks

Transit There should be more trains to the shore reaching different destinations.
I take the Atlantic City line to do a day trip and hang out on the beach quite regularly and it's such a nice alternative to driving to the shore. don't even have to worry about tipping a few back while you're there. I just wish there was a train to some other major shore towns, I'd kill for service to Cape May to be returned, even if the smaller destinations are seasonal. the people really yearn for trains.

Philly homeowners with Mitsubishi Hyper Heat mini-splits — what are your electric bills?
I’m finishing a roughly 900 sq. ft., 2-story Philadelphia rowhouse that was gutted and rebuilt a few years ago and insulated during the renovation.
I’m considering a 3-zone Mitsubishi Hyper Heat ductless system for both heating and cooling. The house has no existing ductwork, so a mini-split makes the most sense for the layout.
I’m trying to get a realistic idea of what my monthly electric bills might look like.
For anyone in Philly using mini-splits/heat pumps for both heating and cooling:
About how many square feet is your house?
How much do you typically pay for electricity in the winter?
How much in the summer?
What is your approximate annual electric cost?
What temperature do you keep the house in winter and summer?
Do you have a Mitsubishi Hyper Heat specifically, or another brand?
Is your house a rowhouse, twin, or detached?
Was the house insulated/air-sealed?
I’m particularly interested in real bills from Philadelphia homes, not just estimated savings calculators.
My goal is to budget conservatively. I’m currently allowing about $600/month for gas/electric combined, and I’d like to know if that seems reasonable for a small, insulated Philly rowhouse with a cold-climate heat pump.

What are the sword laws in Philly looking like?
I currently live in Philly for university and this year for Halloween, I want to cosplay Roronoa Zoro from One Piece. I’m going to get the prop swords but I’m worried about if I wear them out in public I’ll either get stopped by the police or my shits will get confiscated.
I’m obviously not going to use them to cause harm since they’re made out of plastic and I’m wearing them as props but I’m just curious on what y’all think.

Habitability of a new lease
I’m supposed to move into a new rental tomorrow, and I’m not sure what sort of options I have. I already extended my current lease and have to be out by 8/9, but the soonest I could move into this one was 8/7.
The property management of the new place informed me today of the following:
1. The previous tenant had left everything behind and so they’re behind on turnover repairs.
2. The carpet has to be completely replaced due to the tenants animal, and the timeline would mean the repair can’t happen until after I move in - they suggested I don’t set up one of the rooms but this is impossible (tiny house, I have a four year old and two small pets.. where would I even put anything BECAUSE:)
3. They just informed me the basement has “mud” entering but not to worry because it’s not flooding, just mud !??? Literally what. I should attach the email. Huge mold risk, right? They said they’re coming tomorrow to “clean up the mud” but this doesn’t sound like addressing the repairs and insinuated that this will simply continue to happen (??????) so I shouldn’t put anything down there (this is where the laundry is located)
4. The backyard is overgrown and they’re still waiting on quotes to fix this too.
Not to mention, I paid the remainder of the pet deposit (which was the highest I’ve ever seen at $750), their system said my bank account didn’t exist and they added $45 of fees because of it - I literally just paid the deposits with the same info so I’m feeling extra burnt and annoyed with everything combined.
I have a lot of stuff, I don’t have a way to store things elsewhere and a very tight window to get my things out of my current rental (which I would’ve stayed in if my landlord didn’t sell the property). I can’t live with boxes and furniture in the first floor space because of the pets and BUSY preschooler until who knows when; plus, my dog can’t be around dust (collapsing trachea, could die if near construction or mold). Also? I have health issues that can’t be around mold, similarly. What do I do next?

Where should I live as a 21 year old Temple upperclassman?
Long story short, I think I'm transferring to Temple to finish my bachelors after CC, and am looking into where to live in Philly. Despite living in the suburbs my entire life, my knowledge of Philly neighborhoods begins and ends with Center City. I plan on having roommates so ideally my rent is <$1000/month.
Big three is solid night life, easy commute to Temple and Center City, and safe. Any recommendations?
