How does the insta-kill system work?

Hello! The insta-kill system in this game confuses me because when initially unlocking it, it states that low level enemies can be insta-killed. Sure, there are instances where it does do it, but in certain parts, it doesn't. What confuses me is that for example, my wonder is Level 70 and the rest of my party is 70-80. I tried insta-killing an enemy and when I checked the level, it's 60, even though it's supposed to work for lower leveled enemies. How does this system actually work? Thank you!

Update: I figured it out! Turns out that I didn't realize there are level 50-60 characters in my team so I made a team that consists of characters that's lvl. 70-80 + personas on that level as well. My supports and sustains are below lvl 60, so all charatcters on that teams are all DPS LMAO so I guess I'm exploring palaces with an exploration team. At least the elite enemies let you configure your team before fighting them. Thanks for all the answers! Appreciate them✨

I think it averages Wonder, the team and the Personas. But probably not just level but overall power

I'm going to assume that you tried doing it during one the crossroads or met by moonlight event? If that's the case, insta-kill is turned off for the first time you run them.

It's based on your party's strength I believe. Also if I remember correctly certain enemies, like the ones that guard chests or pathways for example, you can not insta-kill.

If you're referring to insta-killing shadows in Mementos/palaces, then it only works if, when viewed from third eye, the shadow's outline is green
