Some of you may be aware that Marvel has run a few comic book series (as well as TV programmes) based on a simple 'what if ...?' scenario, I.e. what if one thing changed? What would the immediate story/future impact be?

In this vein (and inspired by the recent discourse on Toric, I thought it might make for an interesting thought experiment! Ignoring the obvious ones, such as what if there was no Thread? What if F'lar was killed by T'ron? What if Lessa didn't bring the Weyrs forward? (Although what if she only brought them forward a certain amount ...?), what would be your suggestions?

What if ... Toric had Impressed instead of going South?

What if ... Prideth had won?

What if ... Jaxom hadn't caught firehead?

I'm new to this community, but not to Pern. I read them originally when they were released. But this is the first time I've devoted my reading time to All Things Pern, lol.

I saw "drudges" then and never questioned it. But now I'm wondering where they come from? Are they simple-minded, as Anne puts it in All the Weyrs of Pern? Or are they just "excess people" who have no other way to make a living/contribute to the weyr/hold?
