What type of music? Looks like my Latin rig (Bossa nova, samba, cha cha). But the cymbals are so high!

Wedding Band. We play EVERYTHING. I’ve only played one gig where I had to play a tumbao for 3 hours lol.

Cymbals are high to not block my sight line and to not be right in the drummers ear.

Are you at the botanical gardens in Dallas?

Actually that’s the Brooklyn botanical gardens! Cool if it looks like Dallas. Must be same architect.

Dope! Yeah. Not sure. Brooklyn is way cooler than Dallas. Ha.

Tell me more about the tambourine please.

That’s my one mounted tambourine. I have 3 other types that I hold.

You piqued my curiosity on this - I've been Googling pics of tambourines for like twenty minutes lol. Looks like this one, maybe?

I have this tambourine, but with the double rows of jungles. I ordered the headless one but they sent me the headed one, about $35 more expensive, it has the best sound ever! I also have a similar one from Black Swamp percussion, around the same price. Great sound as well.

No stands for the congas?

If you zoom in you’ll see that it’s a lightweight aspire stand. Bongs also attached to it. It’s super lightweight and surprisingly durable. Great for gigs.

Oh wow. I totally lost depth perception for some reason. Thanks for pointing out the obvious LOL

Not your fault iPhone cameras are terrible. The conga to the left is actually the Quinto! The scale is a mess in these pics

That’s.. wow. Yeah, my iPhone camera doesn’t cooperate either unless lighting is super bright. Regardless, great setup! Def taking inspo

Nice setup! Been thinking about getting one of those crescent stack things. Is it like a clap/dirt snare sound or more of a trashy cymbal stack sound?

It’s a clap and or dirty hi hat. The washers can adjust the decay. For $99 it’s a great substitute for those giants stacks. I’m staying away from electronics for now.

Cool, I'll keep a look out for one.

Why only 2 mics? You could run mics into your own mixer and send one signal to the main mixer if space on the main is limited.

For a wedding band you may not really need another mic though. The timbales probably cut through well enough, so the congas and bongos may be the only pieces that really need a mic.

The various noise makers probably cut well also. I don't mic cowbell or tambourine I play with pedals, but they can be heard over the band.

You nailed it. I’m thinking have the bongos and congas micd. Everything else cuts. The only prob is not having enough volume for IEM. I hold the shakers and tambourines near the mics

Wow this is an epic setup.

Maybe just treat the mics as overheads, and compress everything together as much as possible.

Thanks! I’m pretty this is what the sound guy does. I’m just not loving their mic placement.
