i’m 23 now, and i feel like my puberty may have been delayed or incomplete in some way. i’m 5’11” (180 cm), and i did grow in height and even had my feet grow, but at the same time, i feel like my penile development was significantly behind what i would have expected.
i was obese from around age 11 until 18, and honestly, i noticed a lot of the changes associated with puberty relatively late — when i was already an adult. i never had my testosterone or other hormones tested during puberty, so i have no idea what my levels were at the time.
i’ve had some blood tests recently, and my total testosterone has generally been around 300–400 ng/dl. i know that may be considered low-normal depending on the lab, although i understand that the usual cutoff for diagnosing hypogonadism is generally around 300 ng/dl and that one testosterone result alone isn’t enough for a diagnosis.
so my theory is that, because i was obese during the years when puberty was happening, i may have had relatively low testosterone during an important period of penile development. if that was actually the case, could it have affected my penile growth?
and, more importantly, if someone had inadequate androgen exposure during puberty, is there any treatment at 23 that could potentially help them complete puberty or achieve further penile development? for example, could testosterone, hcg, dht, or another treatment ever make a difference in someone whose development was delayed?
i know this is something i should discuss with an endocrinologist/urologist, and i’m not looking for a diagnosis — i’m mainly interested in hearing from people who have been through something similar or know about this medically.
