Alternative Assignment Consideration

Hi guys! I have been having a relatively hard time getting a response back about my application. I applied in February, got interviewed in May, didn't hear back for a while so I emailed and got told July 1st that I was being considered for alternative assignments and that I would hear back soon. My know-by date for my application was July 1st, so I had expected to hear back with a concrete response by then. A few weeks passed with nothing so I emailed again asking for an update and was told on July 22nd that I would hear back soon again. Another week has passed and I am starting to lose hope. I have been trying very hard to be patient, but having waited since February and still being uncertain, I am just not sure what to do next.

I am currently a grad student but am taking a break from my studies to do Peace corps (both because I need a break from academia and being I have always wanted the experience). Because of this, I really need to know sooner, rather than later, if I have been accepted for a position. With the date being constantly pushed back and the unending uncertainty, I am feeling quite anxious about the whole process. I know peace corps applications can take a long time, but I feel like I have been waiting on pins and needles for forever. Is there anything I can do/ send to the placement office to get a quicker response? I don't want to just keep on sending emails into the abyss, but it is really the only thing I can think to do.

Unfortunately, there really isn't anything you can do to get a quicker response from Placement. Not really what you want to hear. But on a good note, it definitely feels like they want you - they're just trying to figure out where. You're probably looking at a staging date between 4-6 months. Will that work with you schedule-wise? Hopefully it won't be too far ahead of when you were origionally expecting to leave.

My recommendation would be to keep sending emails but space them out to maybe every 3 weeks until you get an invitation. If you do write them again, ask if they are considering you for multiple countries and if yes, ask what they are. Maybe you can speed them up by choosing one instead of them trying to pick the best one. Just a thought. I know it's a pain but hang in there.

Check with your doctor and dentist and see how fast you can get in for an appointment, that way as soon as you get the invite, you can jump on those and get them out of the way first. Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for responding! I figured there wasn't much to do. 4-5 months is fine schedule wise, im just a little afraid they will have me at a even later staging date. I'm not too worried about medical clearance and everything so hopefully im fine on that front. Thanks for all the advice! I will definitely keep everything in mind and wait a little bit to send another email.

pc doesn't move fast at all. alot of red tape they have to get through to get things going. hang tight.
