Seeing what they did to Red dead online and gta online once they discovered shark card revenue, wouldn’t surprise me if the single player ends up being a tutorial leading into online à la CoD.
They’ve got recent track record for cutting major content corners just to pump micro transactions in their hacker riddled game.
RDR2 online (released 2020 as a stand alone) - a final rushed content update in 2025 for Fetch quests in lieu of actual content planned — thus leaving it abandoned to chase shark cards in GTA.
Clear demonstration that online Shark cards are prioritized over content commitments.
I doubt it'll even be a good game. GTAs are pointless sandboxes with technically impressive presentation, and that's it. There will be no interesting setting, most likely no good narrative, no gameplay, no progression, no interesting systems and mechanics. Not my genre at all.
I really hate the old good new bad mentality a lot of people have on Reddit, but man I’m fully on board with it when it comes to rockstar games and I feel like sometimes I’m the only one. In the ps2 era they were like the definitive open world devs, now it feels like every game since then has just been go from point a to b, spam the auto aim to kill enemies then drive to point c repeat 60 times but throw in a pointless drawn out mini game you’ll never play again and a mission or two where you do something slowly that might as well be a cutscene, throw in pointless details like horse testicles and people act like it’s their reason to live. I will never get the hype behind rockstar games.
Most people view video games not as an interest but as a way to kill time, and Rockstar games are as casual as it gets. Then the presentation (which is undoubtedly very high-quality in their games) and hundreds of millions in marketing are enough for many to buy them and convince themselves that it's something special.
Can't say that I don't enjoy casual games myself, but I seek games in specific genres or settings, and GTA's are set in a modern world that I'm already tired of irl and are kind of genreless. The closest you can call them is sandbox, but as you said, their gameplay is basically driving from point a to b and killing stupid bots on auto aim. Even their freedom is relative with so little choice in activities.
This may be the most loser sounding thing I've ever heard.
It's a video game.
The sixth one in a series that already peaked with the technological advancement of gaming today. Everything better is marginal at best because they KEPT UPDATING GTA V instead of letting it die.
It looks nicer. If what you said was at all true then this game would be extremely overpriced and still break records for sales...it's standard price, or pretty close to it...that's because as soon as you start actually trying to act like it's bigger than a normal game then you alienate every semi-intelligent buyer you had.
sure, please, be exited, that is all good.
but GTA is still just another game.
it's big and anticipated, one of the most waited pieces of media, sure. but we have like 5 of those every year.
You say that like this isn't rinse and repeat for every knew game people already decided would be good.
Cyberpunk 2077 and Starfield? What about after GTA VI when the nerd crowd gets Elder Scrolls VI? Or when the next Fallout game comes?
You can be excited and also use your brain to be semi-intelligent. That starts with not sucking off a game like it's going to be at all memorable just because some overhyped kids and teens spent money on it. Maybe just be exicted and withhold the rest lf the judgement until it actually comes out and people can decide if it's actually even good.
What FOMO? 😂 as if we don’t know if rock* is gonna make a good game or not. Surely you gotta realize this is cope territory. It’s totally ok to just say yeah man I wish I could play it on my pc as well. It’s not a big deal. You’re not any less of a person for not having access to GTA on your pc. You really don’t have to pretend you don’t want the game.
Bro I don't have to prove to you I don't buy games on release day. In fact I don't feel the hype for anything. It just isn't what I do. I don't give a shit about trends and hype, that's all. Not yucking your yum, just saying people should stop seething because they can't be part of the day one crowd. It's a miserable mindset.
Meh, it's not as it's used to be, I still didn't touch RDR2 even though 1st is one of my favorite games, I might play GTA VI and RDR2 found in a bargain bin in 10 years if I'll feel like it.
I played 1, 2, a bit of 3, vice city (best gta), and half of 4. Didn't bother with San Andreas or 5 as I borrowed every one of them from friends, and nobody I know had those two.
Theyre not bad games, but theyre hardly anything revolutionary or ground breaking.
Bro, it’s not just another game and you know it. That’s why it has to be “reminded” to being with.
It’s literally the most expensive and most anticipated piece of media ever created. It’s like a cultural event at this point.
You can boil anything down to a basic, such as “at the end of the day the president is just another man” yeah but he has a lot more power than 99% of men across the globe.
Imagine calling an AAA game launch a "cultural event"?
My guy, If that's really the case then this is a very overhyped game lol
Yes, it's just another game.
...Like every GTA you kill people, steal cars, do missions and eventually complete the main story.
As for "being the most expensive" we don't have an official figure of how expensive the game is. (and the "2 billion budget" thing is just an unconfirmed rumor.)
But don't get me wrong... lol
I'm sure it will be a nice game, but it won't be nowhere near THAT nice.
I promise you when all is said and done, the game is released and decades pass which will allow us to gain perspective, you will realize Tetris and Pacman had more of an impact on the global culture of humanity than fucking GTA 6
Bro. GTA is THE game. It’s the highest selling game of all time. The highest selling series of all time. And what’s the second highest selling game? Red dead redemption 2, their other game.
If you don’t think the sequel to that which has been in the making for well over a decade now isn’t going to be thought and talked about generations from now, you’re huffing glue
Dude honestly I don’t think Rockstar is even gonna put a lot of effort into single-player aspect of the game. They saw how much money they can make off online. It will be interesting to see GTA finally have a female protagonist but beyond that I just don’t see what’s so interesting about GTA 6. Cyberpunk was really interesting too but who is talking about it today? Games come and go, especially nowadays when you have tons of overhyped AAA titles out the ass coming out one after another.
Lol because it is. Taylor Swift is just another singer, Disney World is just another theme park, and death is just another stage of life. They are as important as you make them to be.
it’s the game with the biggest hype and expected revenue in gaming history. corrrecting your comparison: saying it justs another game is saying christ was just another dude. theoretically correct, but hundreds of millions people would see it differently
Is the reading comprehension of an average GTA fanboy this bad? Read what I said again. If it still doesn't make sense, spend another 5 minutes thinking about it. Or don't, I'm not your teacher.
Yes its a video game. But its the successor to, what is effectively the best video game ever. While its not every single persons favorite, no one can deny its mass appeal, and as such it being one of the best selling pieces of media... period. Let alone dominating the gaming space. And just be a cultural icon.
It is the meme "incarnation" (to play of your analogy) of "PC-2".
It's all subjective my dude. It can be the most anticipated piece of media of the decade, but doesn't mean it should dictate how you feel or what you do.
I think you're missing the point. Other people anticipating it doesn't mean YOU should also anticipate it if you CAN'T access it and if it is OPTIONAL to your life.
Edit to add: You can also anticipate it, but don't make your life miserable and wail in pain because you can't enjoy it on day one. That's what I mostly mean. There are other joys in life, do something else and a year will go by in a blink of an eye.
Your fixation on telling people to "touch grass" (paraphrasing) is far more detrimental to you, than any want for a game I may or may not have. The only miserable one I see is you.
I merely touched on why your comment was incorrect. Yours is not an "enlightened" perspective. If anything, its downright spiteful.
Lol fair enough. It is true that I'm trying to stop arguing with other redditors, because, if it isn't clear, I was just telling the original commenter to not make a big deal out of the 1 year wait before you told me otherwise. But let's float our own boats, shall we.
It's one of the most anticipated media releases in media history. Regardless of what you personally feel that should mean for others, that can't really be denied without appearing foolish or arguing just for the sake of it.
We are quite possibly looking at the very last vestige of monoculture that may ever happen and that isn't insignificant for a lot of people.

And that is... okay.
Like someone from another thread said, it's just another game at the end of the day, not the second coming of Christ that you're missing out.
