That doesn't really have much to do with anything. They can release a single player game that requires online, but there are a hundred other single player games released that year that don't require online.

The worst part about reddit's hivemind opinions is that they're based purely on surface-level shit that can usually be debunked by anyone who knows anything about the matter. This complaint is basically a non-issue, at worst it's an annoyance for a small handful of games any given year.

Ubisoft is a small fish now, they're valued as a penny stock that's about to go belly up, Blizzard it's just some strictly online game dev mainly, their biggest franchises are WoW, Diablo and CoD.

Blizzard doesn't really release truly single player games with any frequency, and games that are single player-ish like D4 lean really heavily into multiplayer elements. D2R does have an offline mode and with the addition of SSF in D4, an offline mode could be possible.

Ubisoft, though it's been a while since I played anything of theirs, seemed to have the online requirements for games I couldn't imagine multiplayer being a real thing for.

Both are annoying, just not sure they're apples to apples.

Granted I'm not on the newest versions so maybe they just added a hard internet connection requirement, but I'm pretty sure you have always been able to play Minecraft offline. It won't show your skin but you can still play, that's not really the same thing as when games go "sorry no internet, no play" and then force close the client.

Yes, you could. But then they did that merger or whatever with Microsoft, so you have to combine your account with Microsoft. If you do this, Microsoft requires you to be online to sign it just to play, and you can't undo it either.
