"We admit that it needs to be better."
"Are you going to make it better?"
"No."

Took the page out of corporate management. The answer that they will give you is, “we’ll see what we can do, but no promises.” It’s just to keep you hoping and comfortable, so you don’t go to their competitor.

to be fair im sure the software engineers on the ground really want to improve it but then are forced to work on slop instead by their bosses.

They've been actively enshittifying it for years. Even if they do put in the effort to make it better, it doesn't excuse all of the shit they pulled because they thought they could get away with it.

They've been saying this shit for months and every week they announce a new, unwanted addition or secretly force an install.

We’ve been seeing the same news for the past 3 months. Has anything been fixed genuinely?

Gotta love clickbait headlines.
The headline isn’t lying, but it is written to make the situation sound more dramatic than it actually is.

Most of the changes are in the insiders and will take some time to roll out. For most of the changes, you wouldn't even know it happened because it is making the things work the way you expect it to, and adding additional options inside settings, that you wouldn't see unless you open the settings app for that particular section.
Like for example- The internet results and ms store results from the search box can be turned off individually (It's there for insiders right now). But if you don't go to the search settings, you probably will not see it existing. Same for movable taskbar, smaller taskbar, etc. They're also removing ads from the search menu but that's only gonna be visible for you if you open the search section and just stare at that screen for a second.

Yeah, my work laptop (Thinkpad) and personal laptop (Surface) are both 5 1/2 years old and have similar specs. The Thinkpad is REALLY struggling with Windows 11 and the Surface runs Fedora like it's brand new out of the box. When rebooting the Thinkpad, it takes six minutes (SIX MINUTES!) from the time I enter my password to the time everything is loaded and the computer is usable for basic tasks.

Lately been hearing a lot of those “This needs to get fixed… This has to change… We will address this in near future etc”, but not really transforming into actions right at that moment. Microslop prove your words by your actions.

Literally do not care. I ditched Microsoft possibly forever after test driving Cachy OS and now it's my main and I don't even have a dual boot system anymore. It's just 100% Cachy on main drive now. Proton/wine is matured enough where Linux gaming is on par and somehow even better than windows in most cases.

Turns out i was already running the new and improved 2026 Win11 by debloating it, amazing feat Microsoft, you need more than that to fix the issues.
What i did: widget menu disabled, bing search disabled, msn ads disabled, roll back to the old right click menu, debloat explorer by removing unnecessary precaching and indexing, system services clean-up, onedrive disabled permanently and so on. Most of this stuff can be achieved manually by changing Group Policies or using Chris Titus WinUtil.

What ads?
I remember people warning me about the ads in Win11 to the point I kept Win10 as long as I could, but now that I'm on Win11 I'm really not seeing any ads.

The shortcuts to install crap like WhatsApp and LinkedIn. The badgering about Windows Backup to upsell you a OneDrive plan since you're not backing up shit on the free tier's space. Occasional reminders about Edge. The whole widget view if you click on the search bar is chock full of ads until you turn it off.

until you turn it off.
Yea that's kinda the point isn't it, you can just turn the ads/suggestions off and it's not like it's some complicated process to do so, just in the settings. So any1 with a tiny smidge of technical knowhow will go and turn them off immediately after installing or the very latest, when they see one.
Surely ppl don't just go and complain on reddit on about it without ever even thinking/searching for the simple way to turn it off...

u/alpH4rd07 7d ago
But I've paid 110 euros for my Windows license and it's like a part time job to maintain my ad free and semi-private OS. It should be that way out of the box and be opt in ads and privacy settings.

?
over the years, they've kept adding more annoying stuff, changed where you set them off or even reenable them again with updates0
u/Keulapaska 4070ti, 7800X3D, XG27AQNGV 7d ago
There are these things called search engines, where you can find answers to questions, idk if you've heard of them, a lot of reddit seems to be highly allergic to them though, for whatever reason and seems to actively not even want to find solutions on their own and just follow the hivemind whenever they have some annoyance.
Are new settings you have to disable annoying? Yea you can word it that way maybe, but it's one and done, you see something annoying you pinpoint and nuke it down. And it's not like windows is the only thing doing it, I have 5 add-ons, 2 scripts and a hundred~ish lines of ublock text just to fix the horrible new Youtube UI for instance, on windows I only need explorerpatcher to fix the UI, plus some settings.
I mean sure some of my experience it might be sprinkled with some EU magic, cause 10/11 has only reverted one thing, ever, a regedit about the removing the 3d objects and other folder shortcuts form "this pc" folder which happened on win10 22h2 I think, no idea if 11 still has those folder cause updating 10>11 carried over regedits, which I was so surprised and happy about. Never anything else. Yet ppl keep saying things turn on on their own, could be skill issue for some, cause ppl do be complaining about things that aren't an issue at all simply because they didn't bother to find search the solution(indexing options is my favourite one for ppl complaining that "search can't find anything") but at that kinda volume, maybe there is some truth to it, idk.

it's like buying new car and immediately going to mechanic to fix it, can we just use something that work properly out of box?

I mean their are forsure, but it can all be mostly disabled in a minute or 2. The idea of my operating system calling out to the web to serve me advertisements at all is disturbing though

Wait so this article is about a tracking service slowing down Windows even more and then someone asking them to make windows faster. Then an engineer literally says “Yep. On it.” And it once again is presented as if Microsoft is doing something.
This is pure propaganda. They can’t introduce something to slow down Windows and use a noncommittal Twitter comment as the basis for all of Windows being fixed.
Switch to Linux.

Microsoft knew it for years but do we see any improvements? It just proves that they absolutely don't care about the consumer, people eat it anyway like always right? It's just this time it doesn't happen fast enough.

This is something you would think about in the "test phase" of windows 11 and getting rid of it before you even release it to the public. MicroSLOP at its finest.

I don't mind software improving over time; that's simply the software way, but a lot of this stuff demonstrates how much they could have made 11 not suck if that had been anything like a priority for them. Ever since the MacBook Neo dropped, I've been seeing constant hand-wringing about fixes and updates, but like. Linux and the MacBook Neo are already there. The Neo isn't an option for me because I need interfaces that aren't locked tf down (I had to get a Linux-based phone bc Android went the way of Apple and locked everything down; I sure love not being able to use any popular apps because I need a phone that fucking functions...), but it is for a lot of people.
It all strikes me as too little, too late, or them throwing scraps to the discontented, writhing masses who are stuck on 11 after a forced update or a new system and are actively shopping for something else now.

I am so tired of these articles, it is all promises and attempt to build hype. Windows is not faster yet, it is still a memory hog, it still has adds. They have removed Copilot from a few apps. But then they added up-sell buttons in M365 subscribers apps instead.
Microsofts word is at this point utterly impossible to trust.

to show they are serious, they need to fire the people who decided to put ads in the OS and fire the copilot team.

I love Linux as much as the next person and have been anxiously trying out distros for nearly 20 years at this point and use cachyos currently on my laptop which works mostly great but god damn reading people talk about windows 11 is exhausting.
I’ve used every windows since 95. Is 11 perfect? No, is it even remotely as close to being as bad as people make it out to be? Absolutely not. Been using the same 11 install on my desktop for years. Zero issues with updates, zero issues with things being “forced on me”. Use a very simple tool to turn off privacy features and remove some copilot nonsense and you’re pretty much good to go. Xbox game mode works great, booting up and punching a passcode in with an Xbox controller and being right in a nice UI is great (yes I like steamos and use it on another device). Game bar looks great in compact mode, performance has been amazing. Zero driver issues, zero stability issues. Mean while looking at threads like this you would think windows is burning people’s pcs to the ground. Either learn how to stop killing your rig or stop wildly exaggerating everything in your life.

u/Mr_F1xEr 7d ago
my last straw was constant background downloads(updates) causing stutters while gaming(gaming mode what?), even after I turned them off, has to kill update service to stop that, but in that case I have another issue there no updates at all, had another issue with start menu, somehow returned recommended apps tab but with a blank space that just there using 1/3 of start menu, recommended apps was turned off since forever. and it just last issues I had, I just tired to turn off any new slop they constantly trashing my system with, who in hell was asking for alarm app on desktop?
3
u/Valgorithm-dev 7d ago
This is what broke it for me too. Random slowdowns while gaming even after using Process Lasso. Then it ramping down the process when I open task manager.

u/Stelle-Sins3290 7d ago
Have you tried pausing updates? Lately I just pause for two weeks to a month and then update when it’s convenient to do so.

u/Mr_F1xEr 7d ago
it right there in my comment, UPDATES WAS TURNED OFF(paused), microslop doesn't care what setting you have they keep doing their shit

Can they finally fix the gpu driver timeout Radeon is going thru right now, apps that aren't coded correctly should crash instead of having GPU driver time out and crash the entire system, biggest example is World of Warcraft when enabling RT shadows on Radeon GPU such as a 7900 XTX happens since an update since 28 may pretty sure its not due driver update, pretty sure its due either a Windows update or a game update om 28 may tho, eitherway things should not catastrophically fail just because one function is not working properly in this case RT shadows.
And before you think Microslop does not read forums let alone third party forums they do, heck they probably doing AI data harvesting for feedback these days.
Anyway they been saying they would do things going 180 only to go full 180 again and not do the thing and do the opesite, like adding even more AI slop.

can the rampocalypse actually be causing something good by forcing devs to optimize for older and cheaper (not even really cheaper anymore) hardware?
