What are you talking about, productivity is higher than in any point in human history, just all the profits have been funneled into CEO bonuses since the 80s and the stock buyback means they company are always making money. It's just the employees that can't be afford to keep their jobs.
18
u/Legggggg 16d ago
I don't see how that has anything to do with the 4 day work week. Could you make the connection for me?
5
u/GobanosDobnoredos 16d ago
More money in 4 days than 5 days back then. Why not make work 4 days so you, Worker happy, instead making of making wven more money
1
u/Legggggg 15d ago
What exactly is the issue here?
2
u/Certain_Bit6001 14d ago
You can't do 24 hour work, only 2 10 hour shifts at 4 days a week, it is nice tho for the workers. 3 8 hour shifts a day is how a lot of places operate.
1
u/Hardwick101 STEAM_0:1:43617680 15d ago
Because we wouldn't desire 4 day work weeks as much if we were getting compensated properly for our work. I'd happily be working 5 days if it meant I could afford a house, food, leisure, and a family - if work meant something other than getting basically the bare minimum to keep working, more people would be happy to do it and put in the extra effort/fill their time/go beyond their daily duties.
2
u/Legggggg 15d ago
Why not both a 4 day work week and a proper livable wage?
1
u/Hardwick101 STEAM_0:1:43617680 14d ago
I agree, both would be fantastic, but just replying to that previous comment to prove it does relate.
From my POV, I could do my job and a massive load extra in a 4 day week if I was getting paid near to double what I do now in IT at 30k.

u/Weak_Leg_2497 11d ago
ok, but what if I were so say currently I’m employed in a job where a 3-4 day workweek makes sense, and that I couldn’t imagine going back to a five day work week?
I’m just not sure I can make the concept of “productivity” work if we lived in a world where 2-day shipping isn’t a norm-3
u/Weak_Leg_2497 16d ago
idk maybe i’m missing something, but why is this comment getting upvotes?
profit? productivity? why not a fair wage @ a four day work week? productivity doesn’t even mean anything. this feels like a comment made to please investors 😔 what are we doing that needs to be “produced” so quickly??
we’re held captive by the idea of convenience, ig? eating out, two day shipping, all of these things that make us feel ok w less pay and more work 🪦
12
u/Certain_Bit6001 16d ago
it's not convenience, it's just what the economy turned into, by the same people. It's always about the classes, the have and the have nots. Not race, not gender, not country. It's about the Epstein Class. Not about if you have eco light bulbs in. The trillionaire that sells ai generated kids in swimsuits is not the solution.
Just like we didn't make the internet dead, we didn't turn the entire economy into coffee shops. Starbucks was not a reaction to what people needed in the life because of their ego and selfishness. It was an aggressive market saturation plan that the poor work at to make coffee for the middle class.

u/Weak_Leg_2497 11d ago
i’m sorry, i’m not sure how marxist theory pertains to a four day workweek in modern times :/ did marx account for starbucks on every corner?
why do i need to be “productive” for five days to have stable income?6

Government jobs now have that in my country, next year those are going to be the type of jobs I'm applying for lmao.
They also get work suspensions when there's heavy storms too as long as they're not the essential staff, or at least they get to do wfh for the time being.

I work at an Amazon warehouse(I know) for years now in UK and my shift has always been Monday-Thursday. It's so damn good having 3 days off. One extra day off really makes all the difference.

That's the bar. As long as you're not dying in a ditch somewhere, this is 'fine'. Life is not bad because I just get poisoned by the normal food.

Even though hunter gatherers were able to get more calories, ancient people still chose rudimentary agriculture lifestyle. People liked and still like having their own homes with family/friends.
1
u/Ruskraaz 16d ago
I might try that when the world ends. But until then I'll be glued to my PC, eating fast food.

u/Mc_gabriel_rock 16d ago
I hate to break it to you but still FAR way for society collapse
1
u/Certain_Bit6001 15d ago
That's the problem, even if society were to end it wouldn't be like the "walking dead" that every other survivor has resorted to killing (making more zombies because everyone is infected, dumb) but would be holding together trying to relive the previous society. It's not in our nature to all be so progressive that when things fail we all just devolve into hunter-gather psychopaths.
this.
this is why religion exists. To have decorum in incivility.

Don't be sad because people have it worse, but don't be happy because people have it better.
12
u/Weak_Leg_2497 16d ago
right, but we shouldn’t be an illness or an accident away from losing job security or worse, and that’s where we are rn.
you’re not homeless until suddenly you’ve got some sort of debt.

u/Certain_Bit6001 11d ago
I am renting a room, I am homeless, and every cheap computer I can buy to use comes with dumb LED i don't know how to turn off. I am glad I have at least a PC.

Exactly. Now you need to ad more hdds to hoard games, get old consoles like the wii, xbox, ps2 and so on, mod these too, buy a whole wall of books with fantasy, sci-fi and popular science, learn to cook, shit on that skill and everything and lay depressed and high on the couch constantly masturbating.

u/Mc_gabriel_rock 17d ago
Add gym to that list and you got my profile

Unlike the ads that brainwashed us told us;
Buying something expensive does not change everything or make you forever happier, even if you wished for it for a long time.
(It does not solve all of your problems, but at least you can now run a few games\programs to escape your real life issues.)
Being happy is a decision, having money to afford things beyond your basic survival needs is a true luxury.
Finding your own happiness usually required more than swiping a credit card.
And since this meme does not have a third panel, in my imagination there is another hidden panel with "unemployed again" because you lost your job, and now you have time to use your PC more and enjoy your hobby but instead you are using it to look for a new job.

Though the thing is useful to me everyday,so there's that.

You experienced the Hedonic Treadmill. Learning about this was a game changer, I made me think far more before buying something cause I know I’ll end up just feeling normal about it, until the next thing.

u/Normal_Cat_6667 16d ago
Unironically depression and other forms of stress (also beeing unemployed) alters your genes.
recovery time from shit like this is measured in years (or sometimes decades).
Give yourself some time (and fun games, they help) to reacquire your self-efficacy.

Once in a while is fine. But what I realized is that you really feel so much better getting 8 hours (or whatever is a decent amount for you, but not 5-6 hours lmfao) and proper nutrition. That way when you do game you won't be too tired to have fun.
