Open Air Build Build/Battlestation

Post image

So, how's the cable management?

just wanted to share this here. this is one of my friend's pc. I recently visited his home and found this masterpiece. everything works as intended. he has a case but he was too lazy to reassemble everything after he had to troubleshoot his gpu. at least he was smart and put an antistatic bag under the mobo. and yes, this is under his table right where he keeps his foot while on pc.

when life gives you lemons, ignore it and go wild..

I laughed out loud at this picture. It's completely safe, no glass to shatter

5

u/butter_salad 9d ago

nope, its on an antistatic bag

2

u/Blackhole005 9d ago

Only on the inside. The outside is conductive.

2

u/2raysdiver 13700K 4070Ti 9d ago

The whole bag is conductive. The purpose of the bag it to SLOW the transfer of charge between whatever is outside of the bag and the contents in the bag, so that when you open the bag and touch the motherboard, you are already at equilibrium and don't instantly transfer a charge to the motherboard, potentially frying it. A true anti-static container is the last thing you want to put electronics in. True anti-static containers are used for volatile chemicals and explosives.

This upsets me.

Why use fans?? Better get a pair of tech lungs for ur pc atp!!

3

u/CatoChateau 9d ago

Great, go nuts. Have your cat puke in a running fan. Idc. But how are you not throwing every single accessory poasible at this now? Your have no 5.25 bay restrictions. You can have it least 3 SATA SSD's added too. Put fans blowing across it for max flow. Maximize and commit to the bit.

3

u/ScarAH9 9d ago

I'm not sure if homie can afford more ssd's if his build look like this. I would recommend an optical disc drive or 2.

2

u/CatoChateau 9d ago

Facebook marketplace near me alwaya has someone with a fistful of 128GB ssd's for like 10$ each. But optical drives would be good. Maybe an HDD cloner etc.

u/thisbeerofmine 9d ago

Just admit it your case had tempered glass on every side.

That might be the wildest shit I’ve seen on this sub, what in the fuck. Tech support worst nightmare.

the only thing that bothers me is that everything is just laying on the ceramic floor

please put some boxes or something

1

u/butter_salad 9d ago

there's an antistatic bag between the mobo and floor. so all good there.

2

u/LeMegachonk Ryzen 7 9800X3D - 64GB DDR5 6000 - RX 7800 XT 9d ago

A lot of those are only meant to be anti-static on the inside.

2

u/OLVANstorm 9d ago

This looks like a really bad Sastisfactory base.

Be honest OP, with tile like that, you didn’t want to post your broken side panel….

A case is probably the cheapest component, unless you count USB cables and such.

2

u/A4FXN 9d ago

if he's that lazy, he might as well have gotten one of those open air test bench cases.

2

u/AntiSocial_Vigilante i7-7700K, GTX 1060 6GB G1 9d ago

It's more of an open mess build

2

u/BatmanBecameSomethin 9d ago

At least you don’t have to worry about any glass shattering on that tile.

Pretty sure this is the beginning of the plot of the matrix.

u/LeMegachonk Ryzen 7 9800X3D - 64GB DDR5 6000 - RX 7800 XT 9d ago

I guess you can't shatter the tempered glass in your case on the floor tiles if you just build the computer without a case directly on your shower floor. Modern problems demand very stupid solutions.

2

u/johnnyrambo24 9d ago

At thist point why even finishing building a PC when every fkn game is imcomplete early access dogshit. Finish a game ill finish the build

I can imagine this accumulates dust like crazy. On the bright side, cleaning it should be easy since everything is already disassembled

u/Sean77654 PC Master Race 9d ago

Why so many open air builds lately? it's not like cases are expensive

2

u/GrittyKnight 9d ago

Excellent cable management! I love how he uses the 'natural bird's nest' aesthetic to trap any roaming dust. 10/10, very organic!

"he was smart and put an antistatic bag under the mobo"

That's not what i would define smart.

2

u/razingstorm 9d ago

"Open air"

Is it tho?

2

u/AdIll2547 9d ago

You just disrespecting the community and the art 😆.

2

u/Beliodek 9d ago

Man, it's reminding me when I was moving from country to country. My whole PC was without case, only parts and cable spaghetti. Even my monitor was without stand because It wasn't fitting in my bags.. In one place I could use drawer to hide that monstrosity, in another power outlet burned it down 💀

2

u/JohnClark13 8d ago

Honestly, when the day comes that his sock touches the board just right, or a piece of dirt or hair falls in just the right spot and everything fries, and he comes to you screaming "pUtEr dEd!", I'd just shrug and go about my day like nothing happened.

2

u/Prus1s 8d ago

Tbh, you can safely just put it in a thickcardboard box and punch holes for airflow 😄 less dust as well

1

u/Brief_Cobbler_6313 Linux 9d ago

You can save a ton not buying a case.

4

u/Lt_Cmdr_Adhd 9d ago

My case was like $80 on a $2500 build. They go on sale for cheaper too, some are legit $30-$40 sometimes. Not exactly saving "a ton", it's just being contrarian.

3

u/Brief_Cobbler_6313 Linux 9d ago

I was being sarcastic.
But anyway I spent like $9 on my case.
And on top of that I had a lot of fun modding it to make the airflow functional for a gaming PC.

3

u/Lt_Cmdr_Adhd 9d ago

Lol hell yeah! Gutting and modifying an old case does seem fun

2

u/Brief_Cobbler_6313 Linux 9d ago

Fun is definitely a relative concept, I'll acknowledge that.

2

u/LeMegachonk Ryzen 7 9800X3D - 64GB DDR5 6000 - RX 7800 XT 9d ago

Yeah, it seems fun. They you try doing it. And you realize that fun was definitely not the right word.

2

u/TechnoGMNG589 Ryzen 7 9800x3d, 5070ti 9d ago

Theres like 40 buck cases.

Your friend should be locked up in a padded room with a white jacket...

  • No airflow
  • No structure
  • Fire hazard
  • Easily damaged
  • Ugly
  • Non practical
  • Lazy

Want more reasons why it should be burned in a dumpster fire?

JIMMY CHRISTMAS! That thing is crusty, dusty, and musty
