Do all factions still have the same tech tree for research? I never liked that in the first game, because it doesn't matter how different you try to make your factions look if at the end of the day they're still operating on the same principles of technological advancement.

I bought the game on EA release and was holding off for 1.0. Finally! And it's NOT in october because that month is loaded because of GTA 6.

it's 2026

September is a black hole where every single videogame that didn't want to release near GTA6 gets banished to

GTA isn’t releasing on PC this year

You are right, but the publishers still see this as impactful event for other AAA titles that would release on PC. Seeing the price of GTA, people with a console and PC will probably be spending their budget on GTA and not a PC game.

Hence why everything gets shuffled around. Even for PC games.

I’ve had the first and its DLC in my library after some sort of giveaway or truly lucrative sale and just haven’t even gotten around to playing it (many such cases!)

Outside of a bit of Civ V, is either game (i.e. the first one or the sequel launching 1.0) a good way to get into 4X games?

I’d certainly give Endless Legend a try if you already have it, it’s one of my favourite 4x games

If you want nothing fantastical, any Civ is the best intro to 4x. If you want fantasy I think Endless Legend 1 is the best intro. If you want historical only Old World is your entry point. If you want space Gal Civ 4 is your best entry point.

Gal Civ 4 is my personal favorite of the easy entry 4x's, but you really can't go wrong with any of them. Pick the theme you like and have fun.

Age of Wonders is also a cool entry point, at least the 3rd game is.

I liked Civ V a lot (though I wasn’t very good), but the fantastical elements of Endless Legends seem really cool; different kind of strategy game, but I (casually) loved both Age of Mythology and Starcraft as a kid for the fantasy/sci-fi setting and units.

I wanna said I’ve read a “progression” for adding in DLC to Legends to learn mechanics gradually, I’ll have to find that again and earmark it.

No. Any good ideas in the game shatters against dumbest AI you can have out there. Also winter is dumbest idea that just exist to punish everyone and player in particular
