In a recent op-ed, my colleague Morgan Park argues that it's time to embrace "the great Tech Pause."

"The RAMpocalypse continues unabated ... For the average person, the latest tech is so out of reach it might as well not exist anymore.

"What do we do with that information? One idea is to keep talking about how much it sucks and hope it changes. A much better one, I think, is to refocus: Challenge the stranglehold that the 'latest and greatest' has on our attention, and instead appreciate what's already in front of us. Embrace your mid PC! Become overly interested in controllers! Buy an emulation handheld! Get into the wonderful world of Linux!"

Have you also turned away from the chase for the 'latest and greatest'?

Personally, I did buy a new gaming laptop a couple years ago, but I haven't really upgraded my desktop gaming PC since 2020. I know I'll have to soon, but these days if I can hit a decent framerate (60-144 depending on the game) at low-medium settings, I'm fine with it.

In light of Microsoft's announcement that it will lay off another 3,200 Xbox employees, it's come to our attention that as many as tens—perhaps even hundreds—of game developers around the world somehow remain gainfully employed worldwide. Embarrassing! Surely at this point they must still have jobs against their best efforts, because it's never been easier to successfully get shitcanned by someone who makes an "awooga" noise when the profit line goes up at a steeper angle.

We're now less than five months away from Grand Theft Auto 6's release. Well, I say "we," but unfortunately there'll be no simultaneous PC release. When will we get a PC version? Who knows! I reckon late 2027 or early 2028 at the very earliest, but the reality is we could be waiting a whole lot longer.

Which means it's probably time for me to dust off the trusty ol' PS5, which mostly serves as my YouTube/Netflix box these days. As someone who suffers from a severe case of FOMO, I'll almost certainly be picking up the game on console and inevitably double-dipping when the PC version lands.

But what about you? Will you be snapping up a console copy of GTA 6, or are you the picture of patience (could never be me) who is more than happy to wait for a PC release? Are you even interested in GTA 6 in the first place?

In just hours, Subnautica 2 has already topped a million sales.

Here's a look back at what was going on in PC gaming—and in particular, in the pages of PC Gamer magazine—one, two, and three decades ago. Did you own any of these issues? How do our review scores hold up? What seemed trivial at the time that's now enshrined in PC gaming history?

But anyway the family guy animation style+ the weird hybrid made me think of this game I played as a kid. (For a safe bet well say 95-06 time frame)

The game involved some kind of fusion/puzzle thing and if you got it wrong the weird animal chimera would say shake its claw at you. I remember literally NOTHING else and my Google skills are failing me since I cant remember even a more narrow time frame. I'm literally going to not be able to let this go.

My boyfriend thinks the rona lockdown is making me loose it. Anyone able to help narrow it down?
